30 years ago I was in the Navy and passing through Paris on vacation.

I bought a bar of Hermes soap.
It was the only thing I could afford from that brand.

That bar of soap had the most heavenly scent I have ever smelled.
I still remember it and think about it.

BTW how is Hermes pronounced?
What does it rhyme with?

Hermes is pronounced air - mez, the H is silent. Others pronounce it air - mess, a French person I know says er-mez. I think any of the aforementioned pronounciations are correct.

Their fragrances are wonderful Ken, can you remember which one it was? It might have been Caleche as that is one of their older fragrances.

I am also a big fan of the Hermes Kelly and am lucky enough to have three of my own.

Around $800 for a LV tote, and I actually think it was a great buy, because I carry a ton of stuff with me all the time and my two previous totes'' handles broke because they couldn''t bear the weight. Not my LV.

The bags are allegedly supposedly hand made. I believe the hardware is gold plated. Some bags (usually crocodile) come with diamond studded hardware and can cost about $165,000.00.

To the original poster, I have a LV epi leather Jasmin bag, which I bought 6 years ago for $900. However, I use it most days, so the cost per wear really isn''t that bad. Downright reasonable when you think about it.

I bet it might have been Caleche, it was very popular at that time and is one of the classic Hermes fragrances, it is fresh yet complex and not flowery or feminine at all, its even a little leathery.....Its one of my favourites to this day.

I am a bag girl! Always have been. My mother said I begged for my first one aged 3. She has never been interested in them! Although did ask for a Gucci one for her 75th in Nov 2009, which I bought for her!

I save up, buy a bag, then save up and by jewellery/diamonds! The purchase of either one, brings me joy beyond words.
I have 4 Gucci bags all between £350 to £600.
I have 3 LV''s ranging from £340 to £1100.
I have 1 Mulberry £400.
My newest and current favourite was for my Christmas present. The reason I got such a special Christmas gift is because it was 5 days before a BIG birthday (you know the one where life is supposed to begin!) I Got the med/large Classsic Chanel Flap bag. Gold hardware and caviar finish. I adore her and take very good care of her.

My husbands only relief is that I don''t really go for designer shoes. I am a size 35 and struggle to find them in my size that I can actually walk in.

I would love a Hermes, but fear I will never be able to afford one.

I have got a new bag so currently saving up for an upgrade to my solitaire. It is a hard life with all these temptations!!!

I bought a coach bag as a gift to myself after passing my qualifying exam in grad school. I want to say it was about $130 or so. But it''s held up super well and I still love it 4 years later (though it''s really out of style by now).

I like that it can be made into a cross body bag or shoulder bag. Two for the price of one.

I think the most I ever spent was $60 and that was over ten years ago in high school! I usually buy a $20 or $30 purse every few years and have a small collection. There''s a brown bag I''ve had for a few years that was around $20... people compliment me on it all the time and ask me what brand it is lol.


I''m not very brand-conscious I guess. I think there are a lot of really cute purses at random stores and even at Target!


But, if you like the LV purse a lot and can afford it, go for it!! I definitely don''t feel guilty about splurging on things from time to time.

Yeah I''m pretty cheap when it comes to purses. I''ve gotten some pretty nice ones over the years that all cost less than $50. I still can appreciate nice bags though. I can understand the splurges as treats too (especially when you can get a great deal on them).

I rec''d a Chanel for Mother''s day about five years ago, months after our fifth child was born. Most expensive bag, feels like butta! and I always buy a wallet to match. I do have a 21yr old daughter who is starting to "share" bags with me, so that seems to make it more justifiable. I just recycled my LV, after not using it for about two years-and frankly, it looks like new, so I got my bag "fix" for awhile. I am much more into decorating our new home and diamonds still sighhhhh so I don''t know if I will be spending as much on bags in the future. My most expensive are my LVs, I think the most expensive is around $1700 plus tax, but I have a few of them that are in that price range and surprisingly two of them are denim bags. I also have the LV tulum gm as well. It''s a great bag and lets you be handsfree which is great with the kids.
I have about 6 Balenciagas, but all of those I bought from someone and the most I paid was around $1200, for a black purse style which was discontinued in 2006. I am currently using it now.
I currently have no inclination to purchase a bag and may even sell some of the ones I no longer use that much. More money for bling, lol!

Mine was $169 for a red Allison Scott Stone Mountain bag - it was on clearance on their website. I think the original price was about double that price. The most I''ve paid myself...I think it cam out to $176 at the outlet. It''s a canvas Heritage Stripe and I really don''t think it''s worth that much, but I just wanted a purse so badly!(it was before we had our full price store up here)

I''m going to try to stop continuously buying Coach and trying to get some other things. Possibly MJ, I don''t think I''m patient enough to save up enough for much else!

Man bag. Get one! My hubby is a pretty masculine guy and he has a man bag that he carries.

My most expensive man bag is definitely my LV messenger, and it might have been $1200 or so. I subscribe to the Suze Orman philosophy, she bought an LV bag years and years ago and it still looks amazing and that''s they only bag she has. Of course, my days of bag buying are over since I prefer to spend on my kids.

Janine, I totally get the guilt thing, there was a Bottega Veneta bag I wanted so bad, but there was no way I could justify it. My advice would be to look at what you already have and sell some of them if you really want the LV. I personally give away something every time that I buy something new.

Yes, you can get Birkins in 30cm. Kellys come in various sizes, but the most popular are 28, 32, 35 and 40.
