Here''s a picture of what my campus looks like right now.. Except those trees that are drooping in the picture have now lost limbs or split in half!

OMG, it''s beautiful!!! But no fun to be in. That''s what we''re expecting tonight, although our weather casters have been known to exagerate frequently. I''m kinda hoping for a snow day because I''m tired of making everyone get up every morning when I''d really rather they stayed in bed and let me have some coffee in peace.

I''m a baaaaaaad, baaaaaaaad mommie.

Sunny and in the 80s. I love South Florida this time of year!

Utter, icy, cold crap.

2 days ago, it was 12, yesterday almost 20, today, 25, tomorrow we''re looking at 30.

We''re having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.....

All the ponds are frozen. The beach of the river is covered in snow (which is one of the neatest things to see). The trees are all sparkling with ice. And the roads are slick as snot. Spinning donuts and sliding sideways down the road. The 4-wheel drive has even been kicked in once. Alas, I LOVE the winter! ( I really do!

Steph -

BTW, my rents are on Singer Island and my bro is in Wellington. Are you nearby?

[Yeah, I know, You are wondering "What's wrong with her?" Yes, I too, [as DKS put it about herself and why she lives where she lives] am a moron!].

We are right outside of Ft. Lauderdale....I would love to see some snow though, maybe a ski trip next year

I''m in North West Georgia, and it was 76 degrees today, which is insane. Normally I am shivering at this time of year. Today I was out with short sleeves. I even found it a little TOO warm when I took my students outside for their after lunch break.

I left my house around noon today to go to the library. Well, I stopped by my house to get some clothes/shower stuff so that I could crash at a friend''s house with power. My roof has 3 holes that trees put in it. There are more gigantic limbs threatening to fall over my house. I''ve driven all around town today and I can honestly say that my street looks like one of the worst. Our 4 biggest trees are just in shambles on the ground. I am so worried that everything in there will be ruined. We were afraid to be in the house for the short 10 minutes that we were! I know I''m not the only person in this situation.. so please keep everyone in Oklahoma in your prayers! This is going to be a very very long week! Here is another picture of what it looks like here..

It has been 20s and snowy here for the last 4 days. It''s cold, but it''s so pretty and it really feels like Christmas!
On Saturday FI and I went gift shopping, then came home and sat in front of the fireplace with hot chocolate and watched it snow. So romantic.

Here is a picture of Boulder, where I live. This is how it looked today, with blue skies and just a few inches of snow on the flatirons. I love living here!

Geez! I feel bad thinking it''s been cold here in SO CA. It was 60ish during the day and 45 at night which is freezing cold for here. I went out shopping today to an outdoor mall and I was bundled up with a sweater and boots. I took Xmas card pics of the kids at sunset at the beach this evening and they were so cold. I think the breeze here makes a difference. It has been a cold one.

Good thoughts and prayers going out to all who need it during the severe stormy weather!

Fancy, I am originally from NW Georgia...we just moved here to Florida about a year ago. My mom said it was hot there today too!

OUpearlgirl and I are most similar in the weather department.

Stuck in my house while hubby chainsawed a path for us to get out and get necessities. It was pouring down rain...he had on ear sound protection and the loud chain saw going...had no ability to hear the limbs snapping around him. I was commanded to stay inside and at least on of us remain safe. It was harrowing to see this hundred pound limbs shattering around him as he worked. And I could do nothing but watch.

As OU pearlgirls pictures shows...it looks like a war zone. Power lines are down and laying on the ground. Trees that have been standing for hundreds of years...are snapped and spilt in two. The tree limbs and twigs are completely encased in ice about the diameter of a magic marker. When the tree begins to snap from the weight, you hear a loud crack and then the shattering crash of hundreds of pounds of ice slamming into the ground. Sort of a showering noise of ice. Then a WHACK the tree makes contact with the ground and it literally shakes the earth.

Our property has minimum of 1100 oak trees...not one is unscathed. Heartbreaking...as we are tree hugging respecting nuts. Refrained from culling the canopy of shade as we realized it took hundreds of years for most to grow. Now we will have to. Or I should say...the damage made the decision for us.

Have been without power for 36 hours...just came back! With out my PS!!!

Oh how I love this world again! (seem to be a tad reliant on my juice!) It''s back its back! We are an all electric house...INCULDING the water. Electric pump. I am running my vacuum, hairdryer and curling iron all at the same time...oh and my dishwasher...and a load of laundry ( I can flush the toitey again!!! Oh happy day! TMI?) ...and I may even have some cocoa in the micro all at the same time(not the flush time...the sentences shouldn''t have come right after the other...you get the idea!) Juice...its what I am most grateful for...!!! And of course hubby...but you all already know that!

Stay safe OUpearlgirl and any one else in this mad mad mess of winter. §

Well...I know it could be much worse, but still the weather here is crappy. We''re currently under an ice storm advisory for our area west of the city (Chicago), and the city is under a freezing rain advisory, so things are shaping up to be quite a mess in the morning. Every winter I spend here makes me want to move to FL, I swear. I can handle snow, but I hate ice and freezing rain, just too hard to deal with, imo. I feel so bad for the people who suffered in this weekend''s/last week''s ice storm out west, I''ve witnessed that kind of weather and it is awful. No power in the winter is absolutely no fun. I always say I''d rather be too hot than too cold...

OU, where is that photo from? Gorgeous but dangerous and scary too!

I was just in Chicago for about a week. It was bitter cold there, with a wintry mix most days. Yesterday there were ice storms and the untreated sidewalks and parking lots were like skating rinks. I had a blast though and did a lot of damage in the mall. The weirdest thing is the mall is an outdoor promenade type of mall, odd for Chicago given the winters there. I was supposed to come home tomorrow night, but heard there is more ice and advisory/warning type weather, and since I HAD to get home for a variety of events (kids holiday concerts, hubby''s office party, doctor''s appts with kids booked weeks ago) I decided to come home tonight. Took me from 4:00 pm Chicago time til 11:00 pm Chicago time to get home to Philly and this is supposed to be a day that was not too bad weather wise!!!! O''Hare is kind of a nightmare airport in the bad weather.

LOL, you had to have been at the Oak Brook mall, Caroline! Isn''t that crazy that there is an outdoor mall smack in the middle of IL? I couldn''t believe it either when I moved here...it''s something that belongs in Boca or something. If that''s where you were shopping, you were probably about 15 minutes from me, either at work or home, ha! DH and I were married in Oak Brook too...on 31st st. Next time you''re in town you should swing by, hee hee!

OU and DKS, I SO feel for you guys. Please stay safe. It is NOT fun being in the middle of something like that, I know.

DK, isn''t it just the most joyous and appreciative feeling when the juice comes back on?? We were out almost a solid week last year. Ugh.

And all your precious, beautiful trees, I can truly imagine what they look like.

I''m so sorry.

But, the most important thing is, you two are alright. Chin up.

Wow,

When I saw this thread''s title, I thought I would come on and have a little moan about our weather. But I will keep it zipped, you guys have it bad. I am very sorry and hope this winter doesn''t cause any serious problems.

Stay safe (and try to keep toasty warm where possible).

Is 60 degrees sweater weather? I cannot even remember that far back to summer as it's soooo chilly here! I'm not sure if I should pack t-shirts or sweaters for CA. . .it may seem like a tropical paradise down there compared to the mini-snow we had up here over the weekend.

At any rate, ho hum, where is my Nordies Parka? This is driving me nuts!

ETA - just read SDL's post about 38 degrees. So much for CA sun for the weekend trip.

Today is even warmer at 80

Both the photos I posted were taken on the University of Oklahoma campus. It''s still crazy here. The ice is melting and now the streets are flooding a little bit, but nothing bad. A lot of people have power now but I still don''t! My boyfriend does, so he is taking good care of me and my kitty!

DKS I hope you are keeping safe and I''m so jealous you have power!!

we''re at an expected record setting high of 75 today and it''s just beautiful out right now...my mom''s group that i''m in are taking the kids caroling tonight at a retirement home. sure doesn''t feel remotely like christmas, but i''m not complaining. they are predicting high''s in the mid- 30''s by sat. and possibly some snow (which I doubt b/c it rarely snows here).

It''s warmer now, but it was snowing just a few days ago. See? So pretty.

Gwendolyn, is that your house?? It''s absolutely gorgeous! I love your porch!

Here in Melbourne it's 24C and sunny (75F). Tomorrow it will be 29C sunny (84F) and on Friday it's expected to reach 32C sunny (89F) . I love Melbourne in the summer. The only downside - I would love to one day travel to the northern hemisphere to have a white Christmas. It's not a lot of fun preparing a traditional Christmas dinner when Christmas day couuld be anything from 24C to 40C (75F - 104F) - which is why a lot of here have a Christmas barbie instead.

Thank you! I will tell my mother--she will love that you said that!

I am currently living in on-campus housing at my grad school in England, but am home (Maryland) visiting my folks for two weeks before the holidays. It''s the house I grew up in and they are selling it in a few months, so I wanted to take some photos since, by the time I graduate, it will belong to someone else!

It was actually the Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, near Evanston. Nice mall. But outdoors? Insane for that climate.

Steph - Ya want snow? Come on up. We've got plenty! LOL!
