What about your wedding expresses who you two are? It doesn''t have to be something you did intentionally... in fact, it''s probably more authentically ''you'' if it''s something you chose or did without thinking in advance ''this is so US!''

Well?

Ooh! Great question!

We''re having dinosaur cake toppers, and FI drew the design on our invites. I think those are the "us" things that stand out the most. :)

Oh, and we have a crazy song quote on our invites that no one is asking about, even though we know they don''t know what it is. We get a good laugh about that!

One of the little things that D and I did is we've sent off to get our cake toppers made and we're getting one of Amber made also. Anyone that knows us knows we adore our doggie so she has to be involved one way or another.

Instead of having Punch at the castle we're having Sangria as D and I both adore it.

My signature drink is Rose wine/champagne, so we're having Rose Champagne toasts instead of normal chamgagne/sparkling wine. We've had to arrange this with the hotel specifically.

We're having a gospel choir at the church as we heard them once and adored them. We're also having a swing band at the reception. I've never been to a wedding where there has been one and D and I adore jazz/swing music so that's whey we picked them.

ETA-we're having a lot of purple in our wedding. It's my fave colour so it has to be in there some where!

The fact that we just went off and eloped. Apparently nobody was that surprised since they all said "Oh, that was so you..."

Nothing! It''s all generic! It''s going to be terrible! .... *runs screaming through the thread just ahead of Indy holidng the little white jacket*.....

Our ringbearer is our little dog Harley. He is our son and we both want him to be involved. It would be nice if we could involve our cat, he''s just too darn stubborn...

We don't have too many things done yet, but out of the things we DO have done, whats really us is we're having bbq ribs as one of the buffet choices
36.gif
YAY! I absolutely love bbq ribs, chicken, etc. and my FI puts bbq sauce (or hot sauce) on just about everything he eats, so it just makes sense. So far thats the only thing that sticks out to me as screaming US.

FI and I love to sit around the fire (especially outside in the summer) and make smores. We found out after we already booked our venue that they have several firepits and adirondack chairs. So we''ve asked them to set them up on the lawn outside of the reception tent for our guests to sit around and make smores if they choose.

Another thing is that FI and I really love fireworks. We''ve been known to go to great lengths to watch a fireworks display. In fact, my grandparents even used to own a fireworks business. The 4th of July was the best date we could find in the area we wanted to get married in if we wanted a 2008 wedding. So we went for it and we''re getting married and having our reception on a cliff overlooking the bay where 3 different towns fireworks can be seen very well.

No entourage (aka bridal party) - very us. Simple ceremony - we don''t want to be the center of attention for a big to-do. Still working on the wedding details so yet to see what else is US.

Though we're having a traditional fancy rehearsal dinner on Thursday night, Friday night is a big huge bluegrass BBQ with everyone invited!

Friday day we rented out a course for golf (so him) and are taking a bus on a winetasting tour of local vineyards (so me).

We're carting everyone to the events involving drinking by school bus!

All the guests are staying in country bed and breakfasts.

My shower (which is two days before due to scheduling!) will be in a hot air ballooon.

We're having picnic lunch for all our guests the day of the wedding that everyone has to take a long country hike in order to reach!

We're serving Arnold Palmers and Mint Juleps during the ceremony (every wedding we've been to, we've thought...god i wish I had a drink right now).

We're printing our programs on hand fans (every outdoor wedding we've been to, we've though...god it's hot out here)

We're having a cute, funny reading instead of a traditional one.

My dress is being handmade for me.

No matchy matchy bridesmaids.

Our dinner is a traditional Southern "Meat and Three" meal INCLUDING macaroni and cheese (vital), served family style! Our apps are also Southern -- fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese toast, country ham biscuits.

Our processional music is Naive Melody by Talking Heads played on Harp. Ha.

After the ceremon we're asking everyone to pick up their own chairs and bring them under the tent to the tables.

My flowers are 100% daisies...daisies daisies everywhere. My centerpieces are MY daisies grown on the family farm where we're wedding, planted in tin watering cans.

Our first dance song no one will know but we looooove...Bright Eyes "First Day of My Life"

Other than first dance, no 'formal' rituals at the reception....no other dances, no tosses, no cake cutting...just everyone having fun!

Our band is a fantastic NC soul band.

We're leaving in a surrey!

It''s hard to say specifically... Everything we chose, we did because we really love it, not because it''s "the thing to do" or trendy.

Blue is J''s favorite colour so we''re playing with shades of blue (and I''m not matching my BMs), J will be dressed in white (something he always wanted, apparently!), daisies are my favorite flower so we''re using them everywhere, our ceremony is in the church where I had all my sacraments so it''s very meaningful, the reception is in what used to be a sugar shack (abeit a very elegant one), which is part of our Qc culture, and we have access to gorgeous outdoor grounds, which is wonderful since we''re big nature lovers... And we''re really trying to keep everything as small and simple as we can.

So our entire wedding is a reflection of who we are and what we love. Wouldn''t have it any other way!

Thursday night wedding.
Dimsum for cocktail hour.
No dance floor, no bouquet toss, no monogrammed anything.
I have more "no (fill in the blank here)"... but I promise, it is a wedding.

The fact that we've had several months to plan and we're still woefully behind is COMPLETELY us!

Other than that:

- We're getting married and having the reception at my synagogue, which is a very special place for me. We thought about marrying at the local country club but after visiting it a few times it just didn't feel like us because, well, it's just a random country club. Every place we've visited just didn't seem as special.

- My mother will be doing all of the calligraphy for our invitations, which is not only special but very me. I have a great love for lettering and calligraphy, and her work is absolutely stunning. (We're thinking of having her calligraphy all of the invites, as well, which would be absolutely GORGEOUS!

- I haven't chosen our stationery yet, but I write letters all the time and I choose all of my stationery with care, so I'm sure when everyone sees our invites they'll think "Oh, that's so Haven!"

- We're having a jazz band (VERY me) and a dj (very FI, to play all of FI's awful 80s music!)

- We're having a huge cheese spread for dessert (ME!) and an enormous amount of dark chocolate (FI! He's such a chocoholic.) More importantly, we're going to have loads of Max & Erma's fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies (US--we pick them up and sneak them into the theatre every Friday night, it's our little ritual.)

- We're having a daytime wedding with a brunch meal, which I suppose was just a natural choice for us because we are huge brunch eaters. HUGE. Love those Chicago Sunday brunches!

We don't have any other plans yet, but I'm sure they'll all reflect us in some way.

ETA: My mother's making a photo montage for us (she's a technoqueen) and she's going to put clips from "When Harry Met Sally" in it, which couldn't be more me.

Definitely the fact that we are having a "Spanish" theme wedding...with all the tapas, paella, wine, etc. THAT is so US. The venue (Spanish Monastery) is just perfect as well. We just love the fact that we have the Spanish background in our families and it''s one way to celebrate since I think that''s one of the things that immediately brought us together.

The magnets favors, DIY stuff and my dress are so ME! hehe

M~

for us, the wedding date is our seven year anniversary and it''s on fathers day. my father passed away when i was young and i always knew he would be with me on my wedding day.

the location, it''s a catering hall, nothing special on the outside. but me and my FI went to high school together right next door and we always used to cut class and hang out at the lake there, now we''re getting married there so it''s special to us.

the colors and overall decor, it''s all very my style. i choose and coordinated everything, anyone who knows me well enough knows that from the invitations to the color pallet and flower that it''s a very "ashley" thing. a good amount of shimmer with creams and purples, lots of swirls a florals, it''s very me. i''m really looking forward to how it will all come together...

It''s fun to read about the things that express everybody''s personalities!

For us, the whole wedding was "us", which was our primary goal. Nothing frilly, nothing too "weddingy" haha. Our dog was there, we had the whole family stay with us at the venue and all had dinner together every night, the wedding was really small, we had a wiffle ball tournament for the rehearsal dinner, everything was very laid back with all the focus on the ceremony (no jibber jabber about unconditional love, becoming "one" or our wedding day being the first day of our lives together) and fantastic new england food. The wedding was at a huge mansion, but it wasn''t at all stuffy--it had been lived in since the 20''s, so it was more like a fun summer home and not a museum. The whole vibe of the wedding fit us perfectly and everybody really seemed to like that, which we appreciated.

I think one thing that was most "us" were the RSVPs. Instead of "will attend" and "will not attend" our options were "wild seagulls couldn''t keep us away!" and "Sorry, we heard about the wild seagulls". We wanted our invites to reflect that we just wanted everybody to come and have a great time.

I love the RSVP''s NEL Ahaha! I wish we had thought of something fun like that. Our invitations are the stuffiest part of our wedding.

I think for us, it will be that everything is going to be as informal as I can keep it. Our ''top table'' is going to be in the middle of the floor, a large square table and all the other tables around it....that''s ver ''us''. My dress is very simple ''very me''. H2B want to get the cake made in the shape of a John Deere tractor....''so him''.....I''m not too happy with that one but I told him if he can find someone to do it then to go ahead and order......good luck with that one honey!

Seeing that I live in the Deep South, I have seen this - almost as much as red velvet armadillo cake. Thanks to "Steel Magnolias" for that one.

We have nothing done for the wedding yet! I have plenty of ideas but we are going this weekend to finalize our location and photographer, so that will at least give us something that''s done. The location itself is pretty "us" - outside, fireplace, woodsy, rustic.

Getting married on Halloween (very us) It''s both our favorite holiday and Samhain is always important to me!

Having my dress made for me in a different color (very me)

Things that were very "us":

--Very intimate wedding with only immediate family and THISCLOSE friends
--Ceremony site was located oceanside (we both grew up in oceanside towns and both dads were in the oceangoing military, so the ocean figures prominently in our lives)
--Reception on a schooner for a sunset harbor cruise
--Elegant, but no pretentious stuffiness
--No chicken dance, bouquet toss, garter toss, etc......none of that is us at all.

Hmmm, aside from the setting of course, I think what was most "us" was the way we dealt with issues that came up like a last minute change of venue due to the weather. We didn''t freak out, there was no point. We basically had planned ahead for the possibility of rain, and kept things flexible so that when it DID decide to let loose an hour before the ceremony, we kinda said, "Meh, what can you do?" and let our guests and caterer know, OK, we''re doing it HERE instead. Worked out fine!

these were so nice to read - thanks for sharing!

we''re still in the early stages of planning, but for us we will have some things related to the dave matthews band in our wedding (song quotes on the invites, perhaps tables named after songs or venues that we''ve seen the band, and more things like that once the ideas get rolling more)

we met at a DMB show and have seen sooo many shows together since we started dating that we want that all to be reflected in our wedding.

if only we could get dave himself to sing our first dance song !
2.gif

also, (dont laugh!) we have 2 special little stuffed animals that we take everywhere with us...we''re thinking of having little tuxes made for them for the wedding

DMBfiredancer. That sounds identicle to FI and I are doing!

After we are married we are having the string quartet play anstmarching while we walk down the isle and then the rest of the bridal party and then the parents so we can get a huge chunk of it in. I think we will have them start the song when we are being introduced as a couple.

FI and I met and made our contection through DMB, either of us had friends that were into it like we were. So since we have been together we try and hit 5 shows a year together.

We are also doing the table name thing with pictures of us at DMB shows. We are also having a picture table and we have a scrap book of all the shows we have been to with at least one ticket for each show.

That is so fun to know there is another DMB couple out there like us! My friends tell us we need to get theropy for our obsession!

What song are you using for your first dance. We were inbetween several songs, we really wanted to use So Right but it is way to fast so we decided on Steady as We go for the first dance and lover lay down for the last dance of the night. With a few songs played through out the night. FI wants at least 5 songs during the dance.

Sorry I went on a tangent, but I just got so excited when I read your psot!

yay!!! another DMB girl! we can bounce ideas off one another! we are thinking of loving wings because it has alot of meaning for us...we just need dave to put it out as a studio recording already (may be on next album) - its hard to dance to, but we''ll see.....

i am already thinking of the encore for the evening....my favorite song is warehouse, his is ants so it may be an ants--->wh encore to our wedding!

i want to incorporate the firedancer somehow....maybe not on the cake but somewhere. we want to also incorporate a beach theme too....

''eat drink and be married'' i need to use somewhere

i was going to have custom firedancers made as a caketopper but i dont think it will work with the beach thing

i want to walk down the aisle to #34 and be introduced to two step

we''re pretty nuts too, but our friends are all nuts as well.....family is used to it. my FI has been to 200+ shows and i''ve been to about 120 now. yes, i said we were nuts!

we are in CA.- i assume by your screen name that you are FL?

i have alot more ideas, too....ill have to share once i get home to find the link to some stuff

Our wedding will be such a mish-mash.... so us, everything always seems to be that way. It will be somewhat formal & casual - if that''s possible.

Pink everywhere - so me...
A horse a carriage - I''ve been riding horses most of my life (my coach may even bring my horse there for pictures)
The most elaborate dress I could find - silk, swarovski, beading, and a HUGE train
Matching bridesmaids (in pink of course)

And then...
An open bar consisting of as much booze as the liquor store has in stock - so FI
An outdoor wedding/reception at a 5 acre B&B
Bocce & Horseshoes during photos
Slippers - they provide slippers for everyone (ok the girls) for when our feet get sore - haha
And I''ve been told the pigs have gotten out in the past

A little of this, a little of that...

This is a fun thread to read! Here''s my addition:

Karaoke at the reception per fiance''s request
My mom''s desserts to serve with/instead of the cake and her biscotti cookies as favors (she passed away about 2 yrs ago, and I wanted her to be included without drawing lots of attention which would make me sad. So, yummy food it was!!!)
No bridesmaids/groomsmen, but 6 kids!!!
Cowboy boots for the kids to wear with their suits and dresses
My brother is getting ordained to be our officiant.

Hmm, thats it for now I think. We have been trying to make this much more of a party than a traditional wedding.

Hm...dunno. Our wedding could have been anyone''s beach wedding...but far more half-a**.

I guess the only reason I can think of why our wedding was "us" is that we didn''t try all that hard to make it "us." Just a casual party. I do think not having any bridesmaids was pretty "me" though. And flip flops. Flip flops are definitely me.

We need to get on the ball as our planning is falling way behind, but I digress....

I want to have American Idiot Funeral Version on the organ. I am looking for the sheet music and my friend is going to tweak it to match the Simpson''s Movie version.

We are not going to have a long head table or a sweetheart table. We are going to have one really large table in the center for the wedding party and their guest. That way, we are not sitting there on display.

We are going to have kids there. Both FI and I are very close to our family and we could not imagine having a wedding with out the kids there.

My siblings are not going to be in the wedding party.

The wedding ceremony will be at my church were I had my other sacraments (just like Anchor!)

BTW: Haven, I hope you use your Gocco with the caligraphy.
