Whats your favorite combo with ruby?

Still trying to decide on a plan for a toi et moi. One stone will be a ruby (lab or natural, not sure yet). For the 2nd stone I originally thought diamond, but am wondering if another color might work. Sapphire blue (cornflower preferably)? Or another color? Love to get folks' thoughts. If it's a lab stone the color choices are essentially infinite (even paraiba type blue is possible)

One of my favorite toi et moi rings is this antique Tiffany from Lang, if you're not opposed to red white and blue:

What is your plan for this ring. Daily wear? Occasional wear?

I have paired my rubies with diamonds and blue/green paraibas and love both. I also love them with emeralds but don't have any pieces like that yet. The most important thing to me is that both stones must have the same level of saturation and brightness (inner fire? for lack of a better term) or else one will literally outshine the other.

You can't go wrong with diamond, but I like the idea of a super saturated yellow with ruby.

I really, really love red and blue together... so if we're not doing diamond, I say a super saturated sapphire.

I agree with the classic blue and red pairing ! If green, what about a nice saturated tsavorite ? I posted yesterday my newly acquired toi et moi with a red spinel and a spessartite, i think red and orange also compliment each other very well

I agree with diamond and ruby but I'm boring that way  . I’d be too concerned matching my outfits to a red/blue or red/green combo I fear I would not wear it as much. I’m cray cray that way.
This is going to be amazing though!!

I am currently doing this myself. I think it's definitely personal preference, but I personally dont like red and blue (it's too American flag for me, and I am very patriotic, lol) I only like red and green at Christmas and even then i dont love it (I prefer red and white lights), I don't like red and yellow, i cant unsee ketchup and mustard. I just don't love the rich red ruby with other colors (unless we're talking about a paler ruby, you didnt specify so I assumed a blood red. I didn't mind it next to a pink or orange, but still felt like they were competing rather than complimenting.

The only thing I considered was black onyx or a pinkish stone, but ultimately decided I only wanted white diamond with it

Ok well I have a bunch of loose stones so I played with colors today.

First question is color of the ruby itself (whether natural or not). More red or more pink. I have 2 lab rubies here that differ in hue.

The next Q is bright yellow vs paraiba vs green vs blue as accent (or none and just use diamond)

Photos 3 and 4. None are primary colors so no x-mas effect.

I agree, I like the yellow and red. Do you have a preference between the more red vs more pink ruby?

Ooooh I love that pink/red and yellow combination - it's so neon! Like ... A 1980s disco party but in the best way!

More pink since the larger one is more saturated but when they flank the yellow stone, ooh lala!!

Haha agreed. I feel like the more red stone would be drowned out almost

I think I prefer more muted, natural tones for gems, but nothing wrong with neon. again I circle back to what you think you would wear.

I love the combo of pinker ruby with the Paraiba color, but of course you should do what makes sense in your wardrobe!
