What's your most demanding & challenging precision custom cut (commissioned) stone?

We all like different things. While rare colour or gem variety is the king for some of us, there're other gem lovers appreciate their stone as precision cut as possible. For those who have tried or constantly buy their gems in the commissioned way, may we know what your most challenging / demanding order(s) are? Would love to know what you got & thought it's worth spending more (or much more) to hunt despite the difficulties within the process, or any stones you simply don't believe you can ever get it in this way again even you've succeeded once!

Well right now I’m very frustrated with a precision lapidary vendor in an overseas country. Fortunately, no $$ has changed hands, but telling me it will be shipped out and an invoice will be sent the other day, but not hearing anything but crickets since, does not give me a good feeling. At least give me an update. Don’t tell me one thing and then go silent.

I won’t say the country, but it’s in a very remote region, and the vendor is 150 miles from the nearest FedEx office.

This is a very hard to come by gem in this color, and it’s a precision faceted, so that’s why I’m frustrated. I COULD get it from a US vendor for THREE times the price/carat, ugh! He’s the only other vendor I’ve seen with this material. It’s not a cheap gem either. Maybe I should go with the US vendor since having it at such a high cost is better than losing $$ and having no gem at all.

The pandemic is not making things easier as well and I get a nervous feeling shipping anything these days. Thanks for listening to me gripe.

I am sorry to learn you are left in the middle of an important gem hunting project which is supposed to be promising…Still hats off to you that you always explore the possibilities to get rare gems in such cut level!

Things are going slowly and it’s definitely not easy now. Hopefully it’s just a matter of time Wishing you have that gem in hand ASAP! May I know what exactly you are getting?

I’m afraid to say, because then everyone on this forum will be interested too!! That’s how it works around here. Someone mentions a gem, then everyone else starts shopping for the same thing.

IF I ever get it, I promise to post pics. I highly doubt it though!
