When you think about starting a custom project, which vendor is the first that comes to mind?

The first name that comes to mind for me is Leon, but I am not sure I really want to work with him. However, I''d love to work with Maytal Hannah.

Does it have to be a PS vendor? The first one that would come to my mind is the custom jewelry place just 1/2 mile from my house. They do amazing work and they did my ering too. If I had to pick a PS vendor, I think Leon and Whiteflash would be the first two. Leon for beautiful timeless pieces, Whiteflash for studs, pendants, etc. Oh, and lately James Meyer because I can''t get his designs out of my head.

Leon for me, even though I don''t own anything created by him.. yet!

Leon or WF. I can''t wait until I can start a custom project.

Leon. I''d take my chances to see if he could manage to piss me off. The pieces I''ve seen of his on PS outweigh the negative press. Especially because I do hear his prices *can* be reasonable.

And being in LA, 23rd street and Singlestone are at the top of the list for me at the moment.

James Meyer is still there, simply because he seems like such a lovely man (and his pieces are pretty amazing as well.) I just think Leon has more versatility when it comes to different styles.

Single Stone!

The 2nd is a non-PS jeweller.

Hmmm. Yeah ... I forgot the local jeweler who did the Re-DECO-ration project. They rock. If I found, say, a pair of vintage baby OEC''s & wanted to make miligrained bezel studs out of them ... I''d probably just go over there & see what they''d quote. They aren''t cheap but there''s something to be said for keeping things local.

If I had a modern brilliant diamond recut to do ... man, those Brian Gavin ones are coming out stunningly well. Would def. think of him first now.

James Meyer--he is lovely to work with.

There are many vendors (not PS vendors) who I would work with. I''ve worked with one PS vendor on a project, and it was not a good experience.

You don''t have to post only PS vendors - besides, singlestone isn''t one either!

Mark Morrell. He did my ring, and I''d go back to him in a heartbeat.

WF or Leon. But now it is gravitating to BGD.

Drew @ D.D. Designs (local guy)
Mark Morrell

Those would be the 2 I would most likely use.

Leon.

Brian Gavin diamonds only. I worked with them at Whiteflash, and I have worked with other custom designers. I was happy with their work but now I would only
work with Brian and Lesley.

Based on my experience, Leon Mege. I have contacted three PS vendors for quotes this year. LM provided the quote promptly, a second vendor acknowledged my request for a quote but never provided the quote, and a third vendor never responded whatsoever.
I also like to work with my local jeweler. He does all his work inhouse. I would not work with a local jeweler if they sent their work out.

That''s true! Ari is mentioned so much around here that I forget that he''s not a PS vendor. He other jeweller I like was local to my jewellery loving aunt. I can''t find the on the internet though.

I think Whiteflash immediately because they did such an awesome job on my custom engagement ring and hand made bezel set earrings. I just ordered a custom wedding band from them last week, actually. It''s almost exactly the same as shimmer''s custom bezel set wedding band, and since they did such a good job on hers I felt like it would be silly to go elsewhere. (Plus I never worked with Brian or Lesley when they were at WF, so I guess I don''t really miss them being there. It seems like a lot of the people who want to work with Brian Gavin Diamonds had built relationships with Brian and Lesley personally.)

If I saw something another custom jeweler did that I had to have, I wouldn''t hesitate to use them. If someone does something really well, I would always rather go with them than get someone else to make the same thing. For example, I would love a Leon Mege ring at some point, and no one can really duplicate his work!

I would love to have a Mark Morrell ring! His work is so beautiful and fluid.

WF comes to mind for me because I''ve worked with them twice. I''m not sure if I''d actually go with them again since I already have ACAs and an ES, and would want to venture into new cuts. . ..I''m aching for an OEC, but won''t be able to buy one for a few years (and would choose Singlestone to work with).

Of couse, I''ve always been on a budget. . .if Singlestone is super expensive, then I''d look elsewhere. Who knows?

And in the event I win the lottery? 23rd Street. But I have a feeling that wouldn''t be custom. I''d probably just walk in and want to buy everything in sight.
Same. If I won the lottery, I''d just go on a massive shopping spree. If the jackpot, after taxes, left me with millions, I''d waste money and even pick out an overpriced Tiffany piece

I''d have to win a lot, though, since DH has already planned out the house we would design on Lake Washington in Seattle! (same location as Bill Gate''s home)

Singlestone or Quest, depending on what I wanted done.

Great thread--super helpful! We''re in the midst of getting one from WF, and were batting around other names....but I''m so glad to know about BGD. (Thanks for pointing me this way, Gypsy!)

WF, BGD, MM, LM, Wink, etc. I''ve seen so many beautiful creations by all of them. I guess it would depend on what the specific project was. I probably left some vendors out too.

Oh yes, James/Caleb Meyer too.

Hmm, if I had no budget limitations at all, probably Leon or Mark Morrell.

Currently, with budget limitations but still wanting an amazing product, I''d lean Brian Gavin (from all the great stuff I''ve been hearing about them lately).

The first name that came to mind was Leon Mege, then Mark Morrell, then Quest, then Maytal and then something custom by one of the "brands" like Ritani or Tacori....
