Hi all! I'd like to buy a loose stone that I can have set. I haven't decided how just yet.

What I love about natural emeralds are the inclusions, so a heavily included stone is preferred. As long as it is structurally sound I think it will be fine. I also like the true emerald green, not forest, evergreen or jade green.

I'd be much appreciative if you could point me in the direction of a reputable dealer. I'm thinking about .75-1 ct. Many thanks.

That depends a lot if you are willing to have the inclusions filled with stuff. I think only when filled are heavily included emerald hard enough.

There are these completely reconstituted emeralds that are widely available.

A heavily included emerald will not hold up in jewellery unless it has also been heavily treated. Are you accepting of such treatment?

Yes, as long as it appears natural and doesn't take on a lab-created look.
