So, my fiance and I have decided to take on the task of lining our own invitation envelopes, because the ones we got (White Aisle - beautiful) don''t come with a lining. And I think my grandmother will have a heart attack if she receives an unlined envelope... she''s a little old school. Anyway, I''ve been looking for nice decorative paper to use. I checked Michael''s but didn''t turn up much - they mostly have card stock. I checked on Paper Source, but they seem to be sold out of a lot of the options - I''m looking for a pattern that incorporates a light orangey shade. I also looked at Kate''s Paperie, but they''re so expensive there. Anyone else have website suggestions? thanks!

If you're in NYC you can check out Paper Presentation (23 W 18th St) or Print Icon (on the same street...like 3 stores down). In store they have a lot of beautiful handmade paper and printed paper that you could choose from. I bought my invite supplies from Paper Presentation.

Edit: I just realized you wrote website suggestions...oops! Paper Presentation has a website www.paperpresentation.com but I don't think you can buy the handmade/printed paper from the website. Hmm...i know I found some other places when I was looking for supplies for my invites.

Hi Ace,

I hadn''t thought about this...my envelopes are not lined, either! How would you go about lining them? I found some paper I liked that didn''t work for the invitations, but could work as a lining. Could you fill me in on how you plan to do this? TIA!!!

it''s surprisingly simple. just make yourself a template out of regular paper that matches the size of the area you want to line, but dipping down about an inch below where it disappears into the envelope interior. you don''t want to go too far into the envelope because you''ll bend the envelopes trying to shove the lining that far in. you can do a practice run with a regular envelope. then make the cut outs from your pretty paper and affix them with a glue stick. pretty simple. i got loads of patterned paper, and i think it''ll look cool.

Okay, Ace! Thanks for the tip! I hope Michael''s has the paper I want on sale again sometime soon! I''ll let you know if I get it to work out! Thank you, thank you!

no problem - let me know how it goes!

Just a heads up- I had ordered some samples from California Paper Goods and they came in today and are beautiful!! Plus their prices are really good! The samples only cost 10 cents each and you can order as many as you want (they have samples available for every type of paper they sell)

Occassionally I have seen that they run coupons in their newsletter on their website so check them out too.

Okie dokie...I was screwing around with some paper I had here at work during my lunch hour, and I have a really dumb question...

Are you putting paper in the flap and then down into the envelope or are you just doing the lining of the envelope not including the flap???

I think it would look better going onto the flap, but not really sure how to make that work.

Could someone please post pictures of what you''re doing?

Thanks!

Harleigh, normally the lining paper does go into the flap of the envelope. you just cut it slightly lower than very edge of the flap so that you can still seal the envelope. Paper Source has a really good video. They use "envelope lining templates" which is just silly since you can just you your actual envelope as a template! But the video at least shows you how it''s done.

you guys are making me want to line my envelopes now though!! FI is not going to be happy because that means more $$! :p
