I got married 5 years ago and bought a ring through Borsheim's in Omaha, NE. They had my ring made through another company (not sure of the name) with a clasp and a hinge to fit over my large knuckle. The mechanism worked well for around 2 years, then problems with the lock getting loose and not clasping right started to emerge, eventually leading the the mechanism totally failing. I need a new ring, but I feel I will encounter the same problem in just a few years again and be in the exact same spot I am now. Any suggestions on where to get a ring with a mechanism that won't fail after only a few years?

How big of a size difference is your knuckle from your finger? I am a good full size to size and a half different, and I just have my ring sized about to my knuckle and have sizing beads in the ring to prevent spinning. Since I can't have gold rings, and Platinum will wear down pretty quick in mechanisms, causing a failure to happen (which I suspect could be an issue with your ring), that's what I opted for. If you can wear gold, you could consider a butterfly/horseshoe sizer in your ring as well, as that will flex to fit over your knuckle, then flex back to prevent spinning, assuming you're not significantly larger in the knuckle than the finger.

Link that shows the butterfly/horseshoe thing:

That won't work in plat tho, the piece works in gold, but they can put a gold one in plat. I can't have one bec the platinum ones wear down too fast apparently.

I took a look at some of those websites posted and found some good rings, but they are all very pricey, especially on superfit. I clicked on ringlock and it looks like the way the clasp is designed it would be the best long term solution. Has anyone heard of ringlock or Allan Creates and do you know what kind of work he does?

I had the same problem. My knuckles are much larger that fingers. I had a fingermate put in my wedding band but in a short time, it started opening by itself all the time. I became afraid to wear it. I found the ringlock system online, just searching for a better alternative to the fingermate. I sent him my ring, he cut off the bottom half and put on an 18k white gold ringlock. It works beautifully! I have had it for over a year now and it snaps shut tight. It has never opened by itself. I would highly recommend his product.

I was leaning towards using Ringlock, but that last post by vickyw put me over the top. I went with the Ringlock system and I am sure glad I did! I have had the ring for just under a month and I am VERY, VERY PLEASED with how well it works! The clasp fits nice and snug and the ring has not once popped off my finger. It is a very solid system that seems like it will last for a long time. I would HIGHLY recommend Allan Creates and his Ringlock system. Allan was very easy to work with and kept in great communication with me throughout the entire process. I would definitely use his services again!

Allan can be a bit crabby if you get on his wrong side and ringlock not the cheapest product out there but they are the best solution I've seen for this problem by a considerable margin. They earn their money. Fingermate, in particular, does not impress me.
