My car cost about €8000 more than my ring. Pity it doesn''t hold it''s value.

I voted car but it probably won''t be like that for long.

DH would rather buy a new car than get an upgrade but I firmly believe that cars just don''t hold their value and it''s a bit of a waste IMO. I had a BMW about 4 years ago but my children just trashed it. It wasn''t very practical for carpools and soccer games either and the maintenance was a pain. When we had our 3rd child I insisted on a very baseline SUV, this way I didn''t have to feel bad when it got dirty and I could take it into any local shop for an oil change. I told DH I would consider getting a new SUV when they come up with better gas options.

Don''t get me wrong, PS folks, I love bling, but cars are near and dear to my heart. I love love love cars. When I was 8 months pregnant, and we needed a second car, it was big huge preggo lady here insisting on the sports car! And I am a constant car "upgrader" - no car I have stays with me more than 3 years. Vroom vroom!

The car cost more when DH bought it originally, but now it is 10 years old and my ring cost more compared to what the car is worth now! haha

When I upgrade to an RB later this year I think my ring will totally cost more.

The cars cost more. I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander (around 26K) and my husband a 2007 Mazada 3speed sport (21K). My two rings cost around 8K.

If you mean car or engagement ring, I have neither.

Hahah, it''s ok. I''m not actually bawling my eyes out.

up until this year, my ring was worth way more than my car, like 4x as much...hahaha. but this year we finally got a new car for me. i just don''t really care so much about having a fabulous car, the ring brought me a ton of pleasure. but my old car was really begging for a break. so for now, the car costs more.

"so for now..." kekeke, mara i like that.

my ''03 lexus rx330 cost more than my ring, but if i can choose, i would take that money and spend it on my ring and drive a not so nice car...kekeke...

i''m planning to upgrade the ring in the future, but i don''t think it''ll cost more than my car even after the upgrade. i think the max i''ll be spending on my ring will be $25k.

LOL! Yep you belong on PS

Does that mean I don''t belong on PS...

hehe milly you are a true ps'er at heart...& you know how much i support car stagnancy while an upgrade is in progress!

Hmmmm.....I luv diamonds, but I spend alot of time in transit, so I enjoy having a nice ride! And presently the car is worth quite a bit more than the ring.

The ring is cheaper than everything even my first car (a 7 year old 1993 teal green Ford Escort with no power windows or locks).

My car is worth more. After joining PS, I brought up upgrading my diamond to my DH, but he bought me a new car instead which was a better choice as we took my previous vehicle to a mechanic right after that plan and he said it was about to keel over.

When I got my diamond in 2003, it was worth a lot more than my car. LIke three or four times more.
23.gif

If I had to go by today''s current prices, I would guess that my car and my ring are worth about the same.

Unfortunately, that doesn''t help me much since I can only trade it in for what I paid for it in 2003.
39.gif
It almost seems not worth it to trade it in for an upgrade anymore.

I love the topic.

I voted equal. I am getting old and cannot remember the exact amounts paid but I could not choose one as more expensive than the other, and I wouldn''t want to. They are both my babies and i love them equally! I have my dream ring and dream car - swoon!

(Don''t tell my car, but the bling is my favourite! Shhh!

Gwen baby...I say you need a group hug from all of us whether we voted car or bling. Kiss Kiss...hope to make it all better! Great things are coming your way...I just know it!

Mara...I loved your little hint of an upgrade or an additional piece. YOU! YOU! YOU! Are my PS hero! Woo Hoo!

the songs (other thread) I am hearing for

Mara are:

"Juke box hero"
"Wind Beneath My Wings"
(did you ever know you were my hero...)

Aww.... no! I meant that''s something to be found on PS. In the "real world" people think I''m a nutzo for my ring being more than my car!

Although I much admire the absolutely beautiful rings of many PSers whose stones may be equal to the national debt, I myself would feel terribly uncomfortable with $25K and up sitting on one finger of my hand. And in my sphere of life and influence, I would raise more than a few eyebrows if I was to sport some honkin'' big bling.

But, come to think of it. . . my rings do cost more than the last car I purchased!!

That''s been a decade ago, as I work for a company that provides my vehicle.

Probably my ring at this point. I plan on keeping my car until it explodes.

Me too
9.gif
... since that means no carpayment and I can get a little extra jewelry
31.gif
31.gif

Oh, me too. FI and I bought two little Honda Civics last November and paid them off within a year. I plan on driving mine for as long as it will carry me. FI on the other hand has his eye on something sportier, I''m sure he''ll trade his Civic in after he''s driven it for about five years.

I''d MUCH rather have flashier jewelry than a flashier car.

Right now, my car cost more, but only cuz I bought a new one last March

Definitely the ring--because we're both super duper cheapskates we scraped together all of our savings while I was in college and paid cash for a 2000 Elantra which we've driven for the past 7 years. When we got engaged last year, I wasn't happy about money being spent on a diamond, but I still appreciated DH's efforts, embraced it and now love my ring.

is it bad that i''m thinking about selling my car, getting a less expensive one and spending the cash on an upgrade?

no seriously, i am thinking about it. but how am i going to bring it up to sam?

Definitely the car. My ring cost 2800$, so it''s hard to have a cheaper car! Maybe FI''s first car ( a ''91 Hyundai he bought at 18) was cheaper...

My first ring (prior to upgrades) cost $800 I think total (and we totally got ripped off I learned after visiting pricescope), so for a while it was definately the car.... Then the cars got older and my ring got larger/redone.

Wow! You are one lucky lady! Mine is worth probably like $3000 more than my car, or 2x as much as his (he thinks that''s a lot). I think my hubby would have a cow if it was 4x as much
