Which ID Jewelry size jackets to get?

My daughter has diamond studs, one is .335ct and the other is .337 ct. I inquired to ID Jewelry about a price on the jackets and this is what they said:

Thank you for your email we do have this in a few sizes. We have a 4mm which are for 0.25 pointers each and we have a 5mm which is for 0.50 pointer each.

Her studs are in between sizes so I'm not sure which one you'll prefer. The 4mm might be a bit snug but the 5mm might have a small airline. Please let me know which one you will consider and I'll send you a price.

What do people think, the smaller or larger ones?

what mm size are each of the studs? If closer to 4mm, I'd go with that choice and if closer to 5mm, I'd go with that. I'm not a big fan of airlines so if I could make the 4mm one work, I'd probably do that.

They are kind of right in the middle!

Stud#1, .335 cts, 4.47 x 4.49 x 2.75
Stud#2, .337 cts, 4.49 x 4.54 x 2.74

aww man...literally 4.5 huh? I wonder if IDJ has a stud in a similar size that they could put into each of the settings for you and send you a pic to see if you like the way they look snugger (the stud will most likely sit above the jacket a little) or with the airline. I believe HOT had a pair of studs that were at like .6 carat each and she ended up getting the ones for .5 carat each and they fit but the stud just sat above the jacket a bit instead of sitting flush.

I am also in the market for the jackets too. My studs are .77 each and I am just trying to figure out if I want to go with the 2 or 3 pt melee for mine. Decisions decisions!

I have exactly the same problem as you bosie! I don't know what to do cause I don't want an airline and don't want they don't sit flush. I continue to search.

Perhaps if they are slightly raised, may look OK. I asked ID Jewelry to pics of a stone like mine in both the 4 and 5mm jackets. I will post if I get them.

Chrono here. Can you please clarify what you mean by my trashing your post. I think the server had issues and messed things up. I did not visit this thread until just a short while ago.

Your post to Ed was before/on top of my original post, I had no idea why it was there and had nothing to do with my post. I had no idea that there were server/computer problems at PS, I am not a techie. So when you look at my heading and then read your post to Ed, it would then cutoff all comments on my post, and it has, I have received no more suggestions to my question.
I am sorry if you have taken offense to my words but I had no idea what was going on and thought someone way trying to trash my post, please accept my apologies.

I'm glad that IDJ will be able to send you some pics of both jackets on your size stone. If you are not a fan of the airline, I'd be more inclined to go with the smaller jackets so your studs sit up a tad and look raised. BUT... if you ever think you could upgrade to a slightly larger size, maybe in the long run, the larger jackets would be more suitable.

Sorry that isn't an answer, but just a point to consider! Please post the pics when they get here - you know we'll be happy to provide input!

I think you'll likely need the larger ones. Ask if you can order the 5mm and return them if they don't work. I'd only order if you can return.

Well I may be inclined to go with the smaller one, I checked also with WF and they recommend on their site and confirmed with sales to go with the jackets that fit their .30 ct stones. Here is link:

They are also less money at WF. WF is 18K WG, IDJ I think is 14K WG.

My suggestion - Upgrade the studs! I had 0.31ct each studs and got the larger jackets to go with mine and the airline bugged me. I didn't want to buy the jackets for smaller studs because I knew that I would eventually upgrade my studs. So I decided to use funds that I had set aside for another project to upgrade early and I'm so glad I did.

But seriously, if you don't plan on upgrading, I would try to see if the smaller jackets work. I am just not a fan of an airline with these jackets.

I have my 5.5mm studs in the 5mm jackets and I love the look.
