So, it comes down to this final decision...14 or 18k yellow gold? And, because it is in my nature to be wishy-washy, I am having a rose gold moment and wondering if I should switch. I really love both and had originally thought I would do RG, but then changed my mind after looking at both YG and RG on me...but of course it could have been that particular RG and not ALL of them. I felt like the YG had a nicer contrast and the RG blended in a little too much, but gosh I love it!

So, what is your coloring and what color and karat gold looks best on you? Pics are great!

I have blonde hair, green eyes and fair-ish skin with pink undertones...tan pretty easily. I am giving a final decision tomorrow and the ring should be done in the next 10 days!

BTW, doing mixed metals was cost prohibitive since it will be cast in a single mold. So, all one color gold...

Here is the CAD FYI:

I'd do the 18k yellow. I like yg on blondes and 18k is so much richer looking to me.

i feel that some sort of contrast is nice, so if you're fair, you might want a slightly deeper shade (18k) and if you have a darker complexion, a lighter shade(14k) might be good. But in the end, it really depends on your personal preference and judgement, since different people tan differently and the the tans tend to last different lengths of time as well. But if you have normal fair pinkish skin most of the time, 18k would be a nice choice.

I just realized that my ring in my avatar is sitting on top of a bracelet that has 18k yellow gold. I love that piece so much because the little diamonds stand out so much against that very rich color of yg.

I would do 18k yg. I love the richness of it and the contrast it provides, like DS said. I recently got my first yg piece, an OEC 5 stone in 18k, and I absolutely the color.

I am probably MUCH more wishy-washy than you
and I am VERY interested to see what you pick and how the ring looks
because I too am "blonde" with green eyes
but my fair skin has more of a "golden" undertone (read: yellow) and
I have a stone coming that is N color and I'm dying since all my other diamonds are much higher in color.....
and I have always been a silver / white gold girl....

Therefore, I don't know what to do.... So YOUR adventure is VERY interesting to me,
I have been waiting for this installment !!!! :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

Rose gold I wouldn't pick, because none of my jewelry is in rose gold and I
wouldn't feel comfortable matching it with silver color or with gold, my "personal" feeling .....

I am DYING to see this finished ring, BTW !!!!!!!!

Blonde hair, blue eyes, yellow undertone. 18 it yellow gold. Rose gold is gorgeous but blends right into my skin. White gold just looks dull on me and makes my skin look like it has a green cast.

I'm brown all over - skin, hair, eyes... yellow undertones like April. I think rose gold is the most flattering on me, objectively, but I like very pale yellows best!

I think if the yellow of the prongs/setting is going to bleed into the stone it's going to happen with either 14k or 18k as both are so clearly *yellow* metals, so I'd go with 18k for the richer colour ::)

I am blonde with fair skin, pale eyes -- my e-ring and solitaire pendant are both in 18K yellow gold. I do have 14K pieces that I enjoy but there is a marked difference in colouring and I prefer the 18K overall.

You need to see the alloy your jeweler uses!

I frequent a pawn shop locally and they have many yellow gold pieces. When looking for a WB to match a solitaire I owned, I tried many different bands and in some cases 10k was richer yellow than 18k. All else being equal 18k is a richer looking yellow and I prefer that look.... but you need to ask your jeweler to be sure of that.

I have similar coloring -- but not blond hair, though a trip to the salon could make it so ;)) -- and I prefer rich yellow on my hand.

You all are so great! Thanks so much!!!

I am going for 18k YG and will tell Adam today. I will respond to individual posts later as I am running out the door!

But, Dreamer, that looks gorgeous on you!

18k YG will be nice!

I vote 18K gold! :appl:

I, too, have blonde hair, hazel eyes, and tan easily... I LOVE 18K gold - it's so rich looking. I'm amazed at how different my 14K pieces look against my skin than that of the 18K ones.

I just buy whatever metal I like.
It does not occur to me to pay any attention to how it 'goes' with my skin color.

Our house is the same way.
Nothing 'goes' with anything else.
It's just a conglomeration of things I like.
I think it's quirky and wonderful, but if Martha Stewart visited she'd throw up.

I don't want to be a party pooper but I don't care for yellow gold at all. I'm all 18K white or platinum or rose gold. My original 1.44 trillion is set in yellow gold and I never wear it anymore not in 15 years,

LOL Kenny! Personally I'm a white gold person, yellow reminds me of a different decade. But I'm asian so yellow on yellow, bleck although I have a slight tan. Rose gold is gorgeous, but a tad trendy for me and blends in with my coloring a bit much. White gold and silver pops against my skin and looks cleaner to me.

I think you are right about the contrast...that is probably why I think RG is not as flattering because it looks like my skin. :|

Yep...the richness of 18k seems to really appeal to everyone...I am going for it!

Wow...never noticed the WG and green thing...don't think I would like that!

Yes, I agree...AND I am wondering if the stronger contrast will help the stone. We shall see!

He did say the 18k has a slightly richer color. Unfortunately I won't have time to see it myself since I've managed to push this thing to the last minute and want it for my anniversary.

Yeah! Another vote for 18k

That's fun! For costume type jewelry I wouldn't care...I would just buy what I liked at the moment. But, for this piece I want it to work with my skin tone...sad that RG doesn't. Oh well...

I understand...YG can feel very 80's. I have only had platinum, silver, WG for a long time as well. But, I feel like when I see YG in a current setting it feels fresh to me and I love it!
