BF and I have been looking at the local jewelry stores for a new round diamond. My first priority is for an ideal cut and I want it to be eye clean. We would like to get a stone that is 1 ct or larger. I see a little color in an I stone, when comparing side-by side to a G or H, but don''t think it will be noticeable when it''s on my finger.

Can anyone pick out what''s best for the money out of these stones. I know this isn''t much to go on but they''re all "ideal cut" with AGS certifications.

1) I SI2 1.22 ct $6200
2) I VS2 1.20 ct $6975

3) F SI2 1.03 ct $5330
4) H VV2 .97 ct $6600

The 1.22 stone and $975 setting plus tax is putting us into a $7500 price range. BF''s eyes are better than mine and he could see a tiny grey speck on the #1 diamond. I couldn''t see the inclusion without a loupe, but maybe after a lot of staring at it I might. I have to say the bigger stones are my favorites, but don''t want an inclusion to be obvious.

What would your choice be? Any other suggestions? Trying to steer him to WF but no luck yet. I''m still uncertain but BF is ready to but something and move on. Help needed please!

Can you get more info off the AGS certs...hard to say with just this little bit of info.
I'm an SI clarity person myself so I say if they are eye clean those are your best bets. But again without knowing the depth, table, crown/pav angles there is no way to say which of the four is the 'best possible' choice.

Here are just a couple I'm pulling off the 'pricescope my diamond' feature (I didn't even look at these stones on the sights or anything just wanted to do a quick price check) to compare cost with what you are posting. I guess these prices aren't too far off from what's posted here but I'd be VERY curious as to what the certs say the rest of the #s. Good luck!

All things being equal, I would choose the #3 F, Si2, my second choice would be #2 I, VS.

Nothing against the I-Si2 combination... especially for about 1k less (LINK). Chances are there is an eye clean bit somewhere close by for you to pick up.

There is one H-SI2 AGS0 on the list below 6k... no copy of the lab report or pictures available, but thet may turn out if you could make a case for it

The stats are:
weight: 1.23
size: 6.94x6.95x4.26
cut: AGS0
Grades: H/SI2

And G/SI2?

weight: 1.30
size: 7.10*7.14*4.25
cut: AGS0
grades: G/SI2
cost: about $6500... listed by several sellers.

You can find these on the list above. And I wonder if the local seller can't pull them in as well. Although, looking at the prices it sounds like they would be higher locally.

We put the 1.22 stone I SI1 stone on hold at the jeweler this week. It is ideal cut and beautiful.

We placed the diamond in the setting and asked my eagle eye fiance where the inclusion was and he said it was in the opposite corner that it was really in -- so we''ve determined he really can''t see anything easily with his eyes either. The H VS2 was a tad more sparkly but not enough to make up for the size difference and the higher price. We should be picking up the ring in the next week or so and will post pics as soon as we can!

Thanks so much for everyone''s help and advice. We couldn''t have done it without you all.
