Set 1 is 1940's illusion set, white gold with a small 5 stone diamond band. Set 2 is 1920's art deco die struck, 9k gold, english origin with a 1/2 eternity in wg plus plain band.(I put the original modern diamond back in the wg set and moved my JBEG OEC over to the yellow mount)
Which do you prefer and why?

I prefer set two. I can't articulate why, just that my eye prefers it....sorry that's not more helpful.

I prefer the second. im on a yellow gold kick right now, for one thing lol. Also i like that it is what it is. The first one seems to be trying to make the stones look bigger than they are. The solitaire in the second one does that a little, but seems more like "i am what I am- and its fabulous", verses the first one that seems to want to be trying to make each stone into something that its not. Also i love the detail on the second one. very nice :appl:

I feel the same way. But I am really on a yellow gold kick right now.

My fav is number one cause I don't like yellow gold.

I like set 1, I have always been drawn to rings like this..still am...not sure why, I just like the way the way it looks so traditional.

I prefer #1 for the finger width coverage it provides. I have a larger ring size, so I'm always looking at max width coverage - i think its embedded in my brain! - so that's why I'm leaning to #1.

Both look wonderful and that solitaire setting in the YG is beautiful!

I'm no help, I love them both equally!

I guess if I had to pick, it would be number one, but only because I prefer white metal.

I prefer the style of #2 but prefer white metals for myself.

Set 2, it's antiquey but still modern. Set 1 looks like 1950's, and very dated.

I normally prefer white gold but I like the look of set #2 better. Set #1 seems to have too much metal compared to the size of the diamonds and I think the band is too thick for the e-ring.

I like illusion and fishtail heads so I like the first e-ring best, but I think to modernize the set I'd wear them with a newer style eternity band (something slender with milgrain and a little shaping) which I think looks better than the old style 5 stones that generally went with them. That does tend to make them look dated.

I like the look of the second set on other people, but don't like the way that style looks on me personally, like I'm wearing a class ring. For those who don't live in the US, that stigma is probably not there for that style ring, but it is for me. I do think the eternity band has modernized the look of it for you and you might consider doing that with the other ring as well.

I like number 2. It has more personality!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts!
I think the more time I am spending with the rings, I seem to be falling more in love with set 2 than set 1. Nielseel summed up alot of what I seem to be feeling, as well as stargurl78. Im not sure if its the height of set 2, or the difference in gold color when I havent worn yellow in at least 10 years, but I feel the diamond is popping better than it did in the lower illusion set head.
