Thought I had made a decision, but now I'm torn between these two:

Harmony

Sleek line

bump for more votes and thoughts....

I voted for the Harmony setting. I think it's lovely! I'm not really a big fan of channels, but that's just my personal preference.

For durablity I prefer the bright cut pave of the Sleek line over the french cut pave of the Harmony. I also prefer the cathedral lines of the Sleek line.

Another vote for the sleek line. The harmony looks like the head was just soldiered onto a band whereas the sleek line has a flow to it.

Actually, what size diamond are you putting in the ring? I think the harmony would look fine with a smaller diamond, but not anything over .75. That is where it might look top-heavy.

It will be a 1ct round diamond...

I think the sleek line will be a more protected shank w the melee diamonds in the channel setting. However, the donut maybe a challenge for a wedding band sitting flush against the e ring.

I like the Harmony better. I'm not a big fan of a lot of cathedral settings and I don't care for settings that taper as much as that one does. I think I am in the minority on that around here though...

i really really really think the sleek line is better. Something about those one that look like a wedding band with a diamond stuck to it just dont appeal to me. Also they dont look as sturdy. Plus she will get a ring that looks like that for a wedding band if she wants, so the best of both worlds. :D

Arghh is this a big deal???

No, not a big deal at all, just something to think about - don't worry! And the donut is very small, so there would be a very minimal gap overall.

Could you ask WF to send you a picture of each setting beside a wedding band you are considering? As in - flip thru their site, find something that appeals to you and likely to be similar to one you would select, and have them 'wear' both to see if there is any gap at all and if there is, does it bug you.

When it comes to wedding bands, you could also get one with a slight notch or curve so it does 'hook up' tighter to it. But all that's only if this is the kind of thing that would bother you... some it does bother, some it doesn't! I'm just throwing it out there for consideration! :))

I like the Harmony--very pretty setting! I've never really liked the Sleek Line with or without pave because I don't like tapered settings.

Ok, I've decided and I'm going to stop looking at settings before I drive myself crazy...plus my eyes hurt from the computer!

I prefer the Harmony, but I'm going to see if Whiteflash can integrate the basket more into the ring like Lyne B's ring. This way it doesn't look like the basket is just sitting on top of the ring and it will 'flow' better in my opinion. This is the ring I prefer.

What's involved in having this changed? Does it effect anything...like being able to upgrade the center diamond later?? Or anything else I need to know?

None of these will let you upgrade the center and keep the setting. They are all made for the stone you are ordering. So... if you upgrade you are going to want to stick a colored stone in it and then she'll have two rings.

I LOVE Lynn's integrated head, and if you do that, I think that would be much nicer and would flow best.

I think this choice is best. It's my favorite by far.

If you can get the head integrated into the shank, the Harmony is my choice. The look of the basket plonked atop the shank doesn't appeal to me aesthetically.

I definitely think the more integrated head on the Harmony is the best option! That ring is stunning

Thanx for the help everyone...I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to go with a ring like Lynn B's... a Harmony with the basket integrated more into the ring.

I've contacted Whiteflash and they are suppose to get back to me tomorrow with a quote. The unfortunate part is I won't have the 30 day return option on the setting because it will be custom. I like having the security of being able to return it, just in case the GF really dislikes it. I wonder if they would make an exception here, it sure does help ease the nerves when you have a return option.

Hmmm. If it has to be a custom piece, I would not do it, because of the lack of return option. With surprise proposals, it's always better to get something that can be returned in case your girlfriend doesn't like it.

+1 I was going to vote for the harmony before I saw this, but this is definitely the best if you can have them make it within your budget. It'll be gorgeous!

^ thanx for posting those options...I did check those settings out, but I'm not a big fan of the taper up to the center basket on those, they seem to taper quite a bit more than the sleek line pave.

I really like the Lynn B's version of the Harmony with the more integrated basket. BUT, the no return because of the semi-custom work makes me nervous...and something else that was mentioned was, the wedding band likely wouldn't sit flush against the ring. I've not discussed this with the GF, so I'm not even sure if it would matter...and I can't mention anything about a ring or she will figure out whats going on :naughty: She always seems to figure everything out, so I'm trying hard to keep this a secret.

it may not sit EXACTLY flush but its not like a big old halo or something, it will probably have the tiniest of gaps, not really anything to be bothered by.

ETA i really like the vatache one laila posted

Ok I can't decide now...and really want to make a decision and get this process started. It's between the Harmony and the "lynn b's Harmony"

Regular Harmony
+ 30 day return period
+ Slightly cheaper
+ Will get the ring faster
- basket is not integrated

"Lynns" Harmony
+ Integrated basket
- No return option

I really can't decide. I thought about getting the regular Harmony and showing her the 'Lynn' Harmony afterwards and if she really likes it that much more, return the ring and get the 'Lynn' Harmony made up and paying the extra. This would be a pain in the butt though, I would rather get it right right away.

I donno I'm torn....

I have one more idea for you if you would like, (though im sure youd prefer to just be done  )

I know you were looking at Brian Gavin recently have you considered these?

Omg this is another option lol...the head is a lot more integrated compared to the regular Harmony from Whiteflash...I've looked at this ring before, but never noticed....now I'm super confused!

haha I am sorry, I just didnt want you to have to compromise return policy or integrated head if you could maybe get both.

Has she stated a preference for a setting? Showed you a picture? ANYTHING? Or are we working from Zero? That Novella is stunning, but the price is more than I'd spend on a guess. The sleek line is the most affordable of the options still and again, the safest in terms of pave styles. I really think you need to either A) find a way to have her sister, mother, cushion or best friend show her pics to find out what she likes or B) go with something reasonable price wise if you have NO idea what she likes.

I really do not like to see people throw money away.

That said, if SHE has refused to give input and wants a "complete surprise" get whatever you like best. LOL.

^ We've looked at rings previously, a few times over the last few years. From doing that I learned that she likes a solitaire style ring with diamonds going around the ring. Both of these tick those boxes as far as I'm concerned.

With the sleek like, I'm just not sure about the taper up towards the center diamond...I'm not sure about it myself if I like it or if she'll like it.

The Harmony is the front runner, but I like a integrated basket a bit more. However, this is still a SUPER nice ring.

What I might do is just go with the regular Harmony to keep my return option, just in case. The similar one over at BGD is also very nice, but I think the basket on the Harmony is a little more delicate and feminine looking the more I look at it.

Ultimately, I really like Lynn B's version, but I don't like giving up the return option

Why not just get a plain solitaire? I think that's safest, and most women won't find anything wrong with a solitaire.

I think the Harmony is lovely as is! A bunch of people on PS have it and it really looks great.
