That last Mark Morrell is GORGEOUS. I''m a bit biased, though, since mine is very similar.

Vatche makes a beautiful mounting but it doesn''t have that certain something that Mark Morrell''s pieces have. My vote is for his Flame with the six prongs and the surprise diamonds. A carat is large enough for six prongs. My sister''s first ER was a .68 pointer and her ring had six prongs and it looked very nice. The Swan is the only other style that would make a final decision difficult for me.

Without a doubt, the Vatche! Ellen''s ring is just so simple yet exquisite at the same time. I dont care for the similar MM because I dont like the way the shank comes up to the head. It''s jarring to my eye, whereas the Vatche is totally fluid on all fronts.

I think anything by Mark Morrell will be gorgeous. I guess it comes down to whether or not you prefer a more elaborate crown with a narrower band or a simple basket with a more substantial shank. I think all options you have posted would look lovely with a 1 carat diamond - not that that makes your choice any easier!

Either the Vatche or that last MM you posted...I think it''s actually gorgeous and would have thought about it if I knew about it at the time...

Either the Vatche or Irina''s design they are both beautiful :)

i vote for the MWM flame! so many who post here with MMs say they appear much more delicate in real life than they do in the pictures, so keep that in mind! i think the 6 prongs would look fine with a 1ct (again, in part because so many say you hardly see them in person) but anyjackie just posted her MWM variation on the flame with 4 prongs. hopefully she won''t mind if i post her link:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/finally-my-own-mark-morrell.75534/

the shank doesn''t integrate with the head and there are diamonds on her band, but you could always ask mark about integrating the shank & head like the 6 prong flame. also, i love the surprise diamonds, and think they would be a nice touch with a 1ct. i think it was Quash who commented that they are so small (he got the flame from mark as well) that they are just a little treat for the owner, and very inconspicuous.

no matter which setting you choose, you have made some great selections! i can''t wait to see what you end up with!

I like the Vatche''s (both that you posted) or the MM rings. I didn''t like the similar MM ring...there was just something strange about it.

I also agree that a 6 prong setting is not too overwhelming for a 1ct ring. Another Vatche to consider is the Royal Crown, it is six prongs and so far every wedding band that I have tried on sits completely flush. (i have a pave royal crown)

I do really like the Swan but I guess I''m just biased because I have a Vatche!

My favorite is the Lockes solitaire.

I think I am going to have to take a trip to solomon bros to try on more vatche rings. And I think I will give MWM a call to ask him as well. Oh, and I am meeting with a local designer tomorrow!

Fantastic! Have fun!

I can''t wait to hear about how it went.

rainydaze Thanks for thinking of me!

mintve, I tried on both the Flame and the Swan at Good Old Gold last summer, and these are my thoughts.

1) I really like the way the basket is integrated into the shank on the Flame. It allows the stone to sit low, which is nice if you work with your hands a lot and don''t want something obtrusive. It is really a gorgeous ring, and I can''t overemphasize the fact that the prongs are not heavy in real life. I liked this ring a lot, and it was a close runner up in my search. With a 1ct stone, it may sit nearly flush with neighboring bands.

2) The basket on the Swan sits too high (IMO). While the detail is very nice, something about the proportions seem off. Is there a store in your area where you could try the ring on?

I vote for the Flame, followed by the X-Prong. Sounds like you''ve put a lot of thought into this. Definitely give Mark a call, he should be able to answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks AnyJackie. I just want to be sure everyone is talking about the same Swan, b/c if they are, I don''t think I will put it on the top of my list.

I am liking MWM more and more. Does your 4 prong sit high? that is a really good point you make b/c I like the lower profile. I will have to get mark''s opinion about whether a 4 or 6 prong would be best for my stone. I really like how the head is integrated in the shank (Another good point!). When you tried on on, you thought a WB could sit flush or nearly flush?

and about the prongs, I love Leon''s claw prongs, so by comparison, everything seems big. I guess that is why I would ask Mark to use his version of the claw prongs...

THANKS!!!

Oh, and is this the swan to which everyone is referring?

I vote for the MWM or the swan. I just don''t love heads that aren''t integrated elegantly into the shank.

my thoughts exactly!

mintve, check out this thread showing a Flame with a band.
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/more-pics-mark-morrell-flame-with-sp-1-2-eternity.59317/

That ring is 1.28, and the ring is almost flush, so I''m guessing at 1 cts, the band would sit even closer.

Also, I whipped out the Photoshop to show the difference between Leon''s claw prongs (courtesy Scintillating''s https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/scintillatings-gog-and-leon-mege.39139/ ring) , Mark''s heart-shaped prongs, and a ring Mark did with claw prongs. I guess that, compared to Leon''s prongs, the heart-shaped ones do look a little chubby, but I think that''s to be expected when you combine two prongs rather than keeping them separate.

Oh, and the head on my ring does sit a tad higher than I would like, but it''s more of a mind issue than a practicality issue. I haven''t gouged anyone with it (yet!).

Is there a good link someone can recommend that shows the X-ping w/ a wb?

The store in ATL that carries the X-ping has them w/ empty settings, so its really ahrd to get a good idea of how it will look on the finger, with a stone and with a wb
face20.gif
Here''s the link to the plain WB I got to go with my x-prong, there are two different groups of pics in it. Not sure if that''s what type you were looking for.

Out of all these choices, the MM gets my vote.

Wow, thanks anyjackie, this is really helpful! I think I am a sucker for those prongs! You are so sweet for sharing! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought that would get ya.

Don''t get me wrong, I LOVE my set, but I put most of my budget at the time I upgraded into the diamond. So I was limited on the "temporary" setting. (ssshh, don''t tell hubby, he doesn''t know that part yet, lol) Hence, I went with a very nice, less expensive setting.

I absolutely ADORE MM''s work, and there would be very few times, if any, that I would vote for anything other than his work. So that''s why I picked what I picked.

And thank you!

And thank you!
I keep going between the less expensive setting/bigger diamond vs a smaller diamond in a forever setting (think I am leaning towards the latter).

Glad to know so many people love MWM''s work. What would you say if I through Leon in the mix? I am so indecisive!

I''d say, I would only consider him over Mark for maybe an intricate pave encrusted setting. That really seems to be his forte. Otherwise, Mark''s work has a fluidity that is simply unparalleled.

And I know you didn''t ask this, but unless you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will not want a bigger stone, I''d reverse your (seeming) strategy and put the bulk of the budget in the diamond, and put it in a simple setting for now. I''d just hate to see you spend a lot on a setting, only to have shrinkage set in, and then have to possibly start over.

Just a thought!

Another vote for MM, I just love his work!!

I love the last MM ring you posted, but maybe with the basket part that goes around the diamond being a bit thinner so there''s less of a metal look.

This is a very good point Ellen. I will ask by BF about this idea. I''ve mentioned it to once before, but we never really talked about it. I just posted a new thread for ideas on an inexpensive mounting. Maybe I will just get one for $200 and design a setting in time for the wedding!

forgive me for threadjacking, but what is the 4th option you posted? I think you said it is Irina''s design? Is it custom? It is absolutely beautiful and I would love to know more about it, maybe if someone can post a link to send me in the right direction? Thanks so much! Oh and my vote is for the Irina designed one of course!

Wow, we have really similar styles! I''ve got the MWM Flame, the Vatche Swan, Irina''s design, the Lockes that is no more AND the X-prong saved in my favourites!

Out of the ones you posted, I would say that the two MWMs are my favourite--I am not usually into the 4-prong look, but that one you posted by him is amazing!!! I am hoping to get either the Flame or the Torchiere for myself--I just love the way everything flows together. Mark''s designs are just so elegant. *sighs wistfully*
