Diamondseeker,

I will def. ask if Diamonds Direct could order my ring in palladium WG. It''s a Christopher Designs ring, so do you think it''s up to DD or Chris. Designs whether or not they offer palladium WG? I''m worried Chris. Designs just doesn''t carry the metal.

Also, is palladium WG the same price as nickel WG?
I think the ring manufaturer would have to be asked if they work in WG with palladium. It maybe could be special ordered if they call.

I am not sure about the cost, but I believe it would be a little more expensive with palladium but not nearly as high as platinum.

UPDATE!

So I went back to Diamonds Direct this afternoon - they were so nice! He actually re-plated my grandmother''s ring in rhodium for me for free - and now it looks great! I found out that they will re-plate WG bands for free for life (along with cleanings), so that was good to hear that it wouldn''t be an extra cost.

He said he would be able to get the WG with palladium, but it would cost almost double (so would platinum) of what the regular WG is, which is really too much for my BF to spend, so I think we''re going to go with regular WG with the free dippings.

I also asked about a platinum head and he said that a it would be $150 more. Do y''all think that it''s worth the extra cost to get a platinum head?

SO, I think I''m going to stick with regular WG for the shank to keep the cost down and because the dippings are free only took them 10 minutes - shouldn''t be too much of a hassle.

Kath,

Did he actually look up the price of the WG with palladium or just say that generally? Because when we were discussing making my rings yesterday, they said that platinum (for two rings) would be about $500 more than the WG with palladium. So there clearly is a price differential between those two, and I do not believe the 18K WG with palladium is double the price of regular WG.

I have had a white gold head on my yellow gold ring for the last 29 years, so I can''t see any reason platinum would be necessary unless the whole ring is platinum.

If you''re going with a white gold ring, I''d go with a white gold head.

The only advantage that I see to a platinum head is if the ring is platinum (of course) or if the ring is yellow gold and you never want to have to worry about it yellowing.

My 18k white gold setting with palladium was very expensive, I thought, but it was made by Vatche and I think that they are expensive. But I know that platinum would have been more.
