Hello,

I am new to this site but have been an avid lurker for about a year. Everyone''s rings are so beautiful and I love looking at every one of them. I have finally decided on what I would love as my engagement ring but am unsure about settings for yellow diamonds. I know that I want a yellow radiant cut center stone on a thin 2 mm pave band with white diamonds.

My questions is does a yellow center stone look better mounted in yellow gold so it blends with the yellow stone or does it look just as good in white gold? I am having a very hard time deciding and have seen it both ways. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance for your time.

Cheers,
Heidi

What type of yellow are we talking about here? Vivid and intense don''t need help in my opinion and look great in white metals. But light yellows look better in yg to me.

Hi Dreamer,

I prefer vivid intense yellow!

I prefer a combination, yellow gold prongs holding the yellow center stone and white gold for everything else.

That''s how they do it at Diamonds by Lauren - I love the look of their yellow diamond pieces and I would go with that if it was my ring (I wish!).
If you haven''t already seen them, maybe have a look at the settings on this page - there are plenty of yellow centre stone rings so you can see how you like the yellow prongs from a few different angles.

tand*m has a yellow sapphire e-ring very similar to what you''re describing. It''s set in all platinum and I think the contrast of the cool metal with the yellow stone is just gorgeous!

I would agree that yellow gold for the yellow stone and white gold or platinum for everything else. If you really want to see nicely set yellow stones, check out Art of Platinum aka Leon Mege (http://www.artofplatinum.com). This is what I call quality yellow stones and settings. Jewelry typically looks pretty until you actually see the "good stuff".

This first setting is actually rose gold and the rest is yellow gold. I think a yellow stone looks better wiht yellow gold .. rose gold looks off to me.

Here is another example of a yellow stone set in platinum.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for your comments. I think I have realized that I prefer the yellow prongs on the center diamond when it is a three stone ring. I looked at the yellow sapphire in platinum and that is absolutely gorgeous as well. I plan on wearing just a thin pave wedding band that matches that band of the ering and this will be in white gold. I am now trying to figure out if the center stone was mounted in yellow gold if that would look odd and stand out against the white gold pave wedding band?

After looking at the pictures and other peoples'' rings I am trying to reassure myself that which ever way to go I think it will be beautiful.

Thanks,
Heidi

Here is an example of a yellow basket with a single stone.

Ditto on the yellow gold claws, white gold or platinum everything else. Charmy poo those photos have me drooling. OMG

I am currently on the hunt for a very similar look for my upgrade, still searching for the stone (but just fancy yellow). Have you started looking for stones yet? Please keep us posted on your progress, I would love to hear about it! Pictures too of course

Oops - I am sorry. I accidentally titled this with "diamond" when I meant sapphire. Must have been my wishful thinking because I have always wanted a yellow diamond but am getting a yellow sapphire (lol)!!!!! Thanks for all your feedback.

Same rules apply, I would use yellow prongs.

I would pick yellow prongs personally. I have a yellow diamond as well as citrine jewelry. My yellow diamond is has a yellow gold head and white gold shank. The citrine I've always had set in white gold. After having both (citrine jewelry longer) I prefer the yellow gold prongs with yellow stones.

Most yellow diamonds are set on yellow gold baskets in order to intensify their beautiful yellow color, so yellow gold prongs would follow. This is definitely not a rule and of course a matter of personal taste. I personally  the look of the yellow prongs!

I concur and most importantly is the intensity of the yellow stone and it's distribution of color, this would determine the best desired and achievable result suited for that individual stone.
