I had a surprise birthday party for my husband over the weekend and the ladies got to play dress up with the shop jewels in my office. But one of them mentioned "white tigers eye" to me for her daughter. Now..I've been collecting and using crystals and gemstones for a very long time. But I have never heard of white tigers eye. Then my friend said "we were told about it in Mexico". A red flag went off but hey, I don't know everything there is to know. Even if I have google :) Apparently neither does google because I cannot find anything on it.

Has anyone heard of it?!?

Far as I know there is no such thing as "white" Tiger's Eye. It may very well be fibre optic glass.

There is also Ox's Eye a more reddish brown and Hawk's Eye which is a grayish blue that belong in the family.

Thank you I told her don't count on it. I will look into that and try and find her examples and see if that's what they were shown.

I should also mention that selenite is probably not safe to wear as jewelry.

It's polished white selenite. I've seen it in a few crystal shops.

My apologies, but I have to disagree. Selenite is a gypsum 1.5-2.00 hardness on mohs scale. That is softer than a fingernail at 2.5 on the mohs scale.

Fibre optics glass most likely.

That's why I said it wasn't suitable for jewelry. I've never seen it as jewelry before. Only as specimens in crystal shops that was referred to as white tiger's eye.

Yes, you can scratch it with your finger nail. That is why I doubt very much it is Selenite. If it got bumped hard enough in shipping causing the beads to press against each other they would crumble. Let alone tossing it around in jewelery.

There are larger cut specimens & ones that are carved though.

Great answers thus far! If natural, it could also be white "cat's eye" scapolite.
Yes, it could be "Cat's Eye Scapolite" but that really resembles at least in chatoyancy Cat's Eye Chrysoberyl. It does not resemble Tige's Eye chatoyancy and it is translucent to semitransparent, where Cats Eye is opaque.

What would really help is if the op's friend took a picture and sent it to the op to post here.
