I cut a red zircon not too long ago. I''ll post a pic on here later, since we''re on the subject.
I like the pair of pink zircons. The warm purple/red/pink tones are nice in zircon. It seems like they''re becoming more popular, which is good. I always thought that zircon didn''t get the appreciation that it deserves. It actually comes in a lot more colors than are typically seen in the trade.
I remembered another interesting bit about zircon... Green zircons are actually slightly radioactive. They are always "low" zircons, because the radioactivity causes faster degradation of their crystal structure. It is generally not enough to be harmful, but I still am a little shy of them, especially as a cutter. I prefer not to be exposed to radioactive dust particles, if I can avoid it...
