I recommended Whiteflash to a friend and he is thinking about buying from them. Will he get a better discount by mentioning pricescope prior to purchase? I would take the $100 referral gift, but if he can get a better deal by mentioning Pricescope I (and he) would prefer that.

Sounds like the best deal for your buddy would be the wire transfer discount (2%) and the referrel...JMO.

yeah, but I thought I got a 5% discount for wire transfer + Pricescope discount...not sure

Have you purchased from WF before? In order to receive the referral gift, you have to be an existing customer.

His best bet is to mention pricescope and pay by bank wire. Doesn''t hurt to ask the sales rep what would be the best deal. But make sure you mention PS!

I don''t know how much your friend is gonna spend on the ring, but make sure if you''re going wire transfer, that the bank doesn''t charge you a wire transfer fee...it might end up being the same as if you just purchased by cc.

Just FYI...the bank charges anywhere from $10-$30 on wire xfers. But there are accts that have a no-charge clause for wire xfers. That $10-$30 may not mean much, but I didn''t know about it when I was about to use the xfer for my stone.

Actually, as long as you are an existing customer, your friend is a new customer and the referral was not made through an internet forum you can take advantage of both.

Please read the terms & restrictions on our website. You will need to complete our form declaring that you & your friend meet the eligibility requirements.

OK, so if I understand correctly. Assuming we meet requirements, I can receive the $100 referral gift AND he can get max discount (Pricescope+bank transfer).

Not exactly. It is not "Pricescope discount PLUS wire transfer".

There are two discounts available at WF, and both require wire-transfer for eligibility. Discounts cannot be combined, so you either take one or the other.

--One is the wire transfer discount; applies to any wire-transfer transaction. I think this one is 2%.
--The other is the Pricescope discount; applies only to orders that mention Pricescope participation. This discount is slightly deeper than the standard wire-transfer discount, although I don''t believe it amounts to 5%.

If your friend mentions that he''s a Pricescope participant, he would be eligible for the better of the 2 discounts, the Pricescope discount. Assuming you meet the referral requirements (you are existing customer, friend is new customer, and referral wasn''t through internet forum), you will be eligible for the referral.

Thank you Alj.

You are a wonderful fountain of lucidity & concision.
(I miss the chainsaw, btw)

Ditto on finding on what a wire costs first. At my bank, it was $30 for the wire, and so with the PS discount, it ended up being the same as the standard bank wire discount (~2%).

Okay, so you can''t get the Pricescope discount unless you wire the money? I was thinking a debit card number would work. No?

I don''t think so, because when you use the debit card, I''m fairly certain the merchant is still charged a percentage for the transaction.

You can write a check though if you would like...I asked they said yes. It was 50$ for the wire transfer.

You have to pay cash to get the PS discount??

Mata,

So, I can do a check and still get the PS discount? I was thinking maybe that would make the transaction slower, but well... they''d still have to set the stone in the band I''m getting from Wink anyway, so that would work.

That''s great; I was starting to worry that I''d have to pay the non-PS price, and that was making me totally re-think the diamond choice.

I still think it''s best to call them just to be sure. When in doubt call, it''s toll free!!!

hehe, so true Kaleigh! Definitely just give them a call..

Very true, Kaleigh....

Between my girl and me, I can''t count how many times we''ve called. What''s one more?

Debit card they definitely have to run through like a credit card so they get dinged the merchant charge so all bets are off there (I use to work in banking for several years

). But I do believe I''ve read you can pay the merchants by check and once your check clears you are good to go. May take a little extra time but I''d rather do that than pay the wire fee. I just used my cc with Wink so it wasn''t anything for me to worry about but if you are looking to cut out that fee you could do that. Another suggestion is to send them a cashier check...that is guaranteed funds so maybe there would be no delay then...just a thought...fee for the check is probably $5-7 and that''s worth it for no wait time IMO. I''d check to see if they would accept cashiers check as guaranteed funds with no wait.

When I bought from WF last summer I paid by cashier''s check...no problem. But I would just call in the am to make sure that is still acceptable.

Good 'call' Kaleigh.

Sometimes we are monitoring the phone outside of standard USA hours, so even if it's late or early it doesn't hurt to dial the digits.

Pebbles is correct about a cashier's check. There is a slight delay in that case, because after we receive the check it has to be moved to the bank and processed so that the funds appear, but cashier's check = same as wire in terms of price.

If you are uncertain of any purchase over the internet, you are afforded a certain amount of fraud protection with use of a credit card that you do not have when using cash/checks. This is especially true of "interstate commerece". You may save $300 on a $10,000 purchase, but I personally don''t know if it is worth it? Also, there are many merchants out there that do not charge extra for credit card purchases . . . . . . . . . . . . . makes me wonder why some do?
