why do every women own at least one black dress?

Because it's a classic, a staple to every womans wardrobe. You can dress it up, and you're good to go.. Black does make you look slimmer, as long as the cut is good.. It's not just diamonds that need a good cut, LOL!!! ;))

Dude, I live in New York. Anything else, and I'd be breaking union code. I have Batman's closet.

::snort!::

I have - a lot of black. And grey. And beige.
I'm 24.
I'm sure that tells someone something deep and insightful about me.

 Great visual! As long as it's the Micheal Keaton Batman and not the Adam West or George Clooney Batman

ETA:

Hee - oh, totally. And, as with the MK Batman ... it's totally the utility belt that makes the outfit.

... I don't have one ... Unless you consider a black neglige/teddy a dress

It tells me you like simplicity. It tells me you are too busy, probably enjoying life, to handle a vast array of clothing options; you need to get in your clothes quickly and be on your way.

I knew a woman who would buy 5 new outfits a year, complete with jewelry just for that outfit, and wear each outfit on the same day every week. She had scads of money, and could have had anything, but this method simplified her life. It bored the hell out of me, but it was right for her. She didn't have to think about what she was going to wear. Ever.

So having a monochromatic wardrobe doesn't make me think you are a taco shy of the lunch special! You're just too busy to be bothered.

Probably.

Or you could just be really dull and uninteresting.

This is a threadjack, but did anyone else have throngs of women turning up in red at formal events in high school and college because of the "Lady in Red" song? I love to wear red, but always feel slightly cheesy when I do because of this. And I really liked the song. :D

I turn up in red almost as often as I do black, but not because of the song (would never have occurred to me!). I think it's just because I'm a Scarlet Woman at heart.

The two years I wore a red long dress to DH's formal Christmas Party (and DH wore a matching red tie) the hired photographer practically followed us around all night snapping photos. I felt a bit cheesy, especially because the band plays the same playlist every year, and "Lady in Red" is one of those songs.

I've never had that much attention in all the years (7) since. I'm wearing a long brown dress this year with gold accessories. The Giuseppie Zanottis (that no one will see or care about) are the stars this year. :naughty:

I don't own any dresses. I did buy a black pants suit on sale last year, and unfortunately wore it for the first time to my dear FIL's funeral in January. :(( I prefer colors, if at all possible. Just look better in them.
