Why do you love Coloured Gemstones?

Those are beautiful specimens! The first and last faceted sapphires are so pretty. As is the white one. I love the opalescent appearance of those and the first blue color is amazing!
I have one sapphire that has that unique opaline quality. I’m not sure what creates that effect. I’m guessing it’s certain types of inclusions?
The pink with the streak of blue running through is really cool!
Thanks for sharing such interesting stones!

Thanks! Yes that opalescent look is created by extremely tiny inclusions. Cant detect those inclusions to see them clear even with 100x magnification on my microscope.

The blue sapphire is also unique as he goes as more skyblue as more sun as he get. Without direct sunlight he looks more opalescent and misteriouse, in yellow light /incendescant light he shifts to a lavender blue.

Beautiful stones!

Is that cluster of ruby crystals from Vietnam?

Thanks!

Yes the ruby cluster is a undamaged floater from Vietnam. Ive bit a weakness for such pieces witch look esthetical to me.

Nice crystals are highly aftersought by Vietnamese as well as Chinese. They are often used for lucky charm pendants. The crystals got placed in animal motive yellow gold pendants as tiger, dragon, buffalo ect.

Biger crystals, crystal groupes and specimens also for Feng Shui reasons and decorations. My personal highlight was a big ruby crystal cluster (~1.5kg) placed behinde the front window inside the car

My love began as more mundane. My mom had a particular opal collection that I especially loved with the star being a fine black opal, it looked like an egg, and the setting she had made for it was reminiscent of a nest with a little world in it. I used to think it was a fairy egg and my mom made up a story for me to fit what I thought. She told the best stories to us. It is with one of my sisters, now.
We also used to go for walks and if we found beautiful rocks or smooth sea glass we'd bring them home as treasures and display them in our rooms as 'jewels'.
I've always loved things that sparkled, glittered, or shined. Colored gems are infinite in their variety. They are unique.
*My mom told us later she would leave the sea glass for us to find on our walks.

Beautiful stories! They remind me of something I recently read. A man wrote that now he’s an adult he’s realized that all the Christmas magic he felt as a kid was actually a mom who loved him so much.

Aww, it really is.

Here an example for such a lucky charm pendant. Cobalt spinel rooster. I guess the owner is born in the year of the rooster.

A very nice piece of spinel there, but it won't be that vivid in real life. If you look at the colour of the fingers, and particularly the paper in the background, you can see there is a blue cast, so the colour temperature is off.

I just love color.
To me some colors just feel good, others not so much.
Of course that's something that happens in my brain, and not a good/bad property of the color itself.
But hey, all I have is my brain.

Sometimes at Homo Depot's paint department I'll just stand and gawk at those paint chips.
I pay attention to what various hues make me feel.

That gems with yummy colors can come right out of the earth makes them more special IMO.
Treated gems with the same color may look the same but, for me, don't hold a certain magic of gems with color of natural origin.

Obviously people, and YM, may vary. ;)2
