Why the big jump in price in terms of SI1 vs SI2?

The SI2 looks to have easily eye-visible inclusions, and I am guessing the SI1 is either eyeclean or has inclusions not readily eye-visible. You could also contact Brian or Leslie at BGD and ask them specifically - I am pretty sure you will get an honest evaluation/comparison.

That particular SI2 doesn't look eyeclean to me. Watch the inclusion in the table area as the diamond rotates toward you & away from you. See it toward the bottom of the table? The SI1 is more likely to be eyeclean-er or at least very subtle. The twinning wisps are said to be more desirable inclusions than a dark crystal.

Just call Leslie, she will explain

Because there is always a jump between SI1 and SI2 and also the SI2 has a black inclusion in the table so its not even a good SI2.

thanks guys! i can see the inclusion in the table now!

I'd double check with BGD about the clarity...You have to remember, these photos and videos are zoomed in a ton and chances are you may not even see them. I wouldn't normally make such a fuss, but the difference in price is significant and if it's eye clean, I wouldn't pay 1.5k more for the other. They're both beautiful though.

There is generally a significant price differential between the two SI gradings I've found.

Because in quality SI1 is more precious than SI2 just as Flawless is more precious than IF and so IF is more precious than VVS1.

People here seem to buy diamonds just for their look and not their intrinsic quality though :D

Also it's the same with color. D color is more pure than E color and G color more pure than H color. Purity is clearness of crystal, thus less impurities giving a color tint.

People argue that color is just that and clearer is not better, but it doesn't alter the fact that the prices asked reflect these measures as this is what the gem world, the rich/aristocracy and history has deemed to be more worthy of money.
A clearer whiter diamond will stand out more, lower color diamonds tend to blend in more with your skin.
