Will a 2.5ctw 5 stone band overwhelm my 2ct engagement ring?

So now that my wedding is right around the corner it's time to pick out my wedding band! We're going to the jeweler on Thursday, but I figured I'd come here first and hear some thoughts.

I love the look of a five stone trellis in platinum, and I'm pretty set on that. I'm just not sure of the size. We're going to be looking at sets of 2.00, 2.25, and 2.5 ctw on Thursday. Based on looking at five stone rings of different sizes stand-alone, without an ering, I love the look of 2.5 ctw. However, I want to be able to wear my wedding band and my engagement ring together on the same hand, and I realize that I will probably need a super thin spacer to keep the prongs from rubbing together.

Here's a pic of my engagement ring (GIA 2.00 F, VG, SI1, .5 ctw on the sides) on my 5.75 finger. We'll be looking at all F diamonds, in a mixture of SI1/VS2, and VG/EX for the wedding band. Most importantly, I want to make sure the diamonds all look consistent with each other, and consistent with my engagement ring. We have around a 10k budget for the five stone, so we want to get the best diamonds we can with that, once we decide on the size.

I know the best thing to do will be to see the different size diamonds in person next to my ering, but if anyone has any initial thoughts on what would go well with my engagement ring and my 5.75 finger size, I'd be glad to hear, thanks!

Does it need to be a five stone?? I'm thinking what if you go w the same size melee as your ering and have how ever many diamonds it takes to give the finger width across the top of your ring finger??

Just another idea...

I think it will overwhelm your ring a bit. I have a 1 ct. five stone and it is a bit much with my 2.57 e-ring. There is no reason not to get it though, if you love it. You can always wear them on separate hands. I would go and try it on together and see what you think. Even if you try on a 1 ct just to see. Maybe you will love the look anyway. You will definitely need the spacer though. Whatever you do, don't risk the ring damage that you will, without a doubt, incur without it.

What does your wedding band look like? Can you attach a picture of your ering and wd band?

Your engagement ring is beautiful but I personally think any type of trellis setting will be overwhelming with your engagement ring. I tend to think of five stone rings as more of stand alone rings.

I would choose a wedding band with stones the same size or smaller as those in your engagement ring band. The idea is to compliment - not wash out a beautiful diamond solitaire in a big sea of bling. Have you tried on a trellis five stone wedding band with your ering? The best way to tell what you like or don't like is to try them on. You may be surprised at what you like!

Yes, I agree that 5 stone rings of that size are going to sit WAY too high and will not work well with an engagement ring. I have a 1 ct 5 stone ring and would definitely not it wear with with my 2.3 ct e-ring because it also is too high. I'd go no larger than 10 pointers in a wedding band with a 2+ ct stone. Any bigger than that will take away from the e-ring. I actually think even smaller would look better with your e-ring. I'd get the big five stone band for the other hand.

One more note, a super thin spacer will probably not be enough to keep the diamonds from hitting each other. That is more of a risk than the prongs rubbing. Stones chipping would be a very real risk if you were wearing a high set diamond band with your e-ring.

Re: Will a 2.5ctw 5 stone band overwhelm my 2ct engagement r

I bought a 5 stone with 35 pointers to go with my 2.59 solitaire. I ended up returning it b/c it sat too high. Also, when I looked at it, it did not feel comfortable to my eye. I couldn't figure out what to focus on visually, the solitaire or the five stone. But I do LOVE 5 stone rings. So instead I set my solitaire into a five stone with 30 pointers on each side. Then I added a very skinny pave band, and that seemed the most pleasing to my eye. The pave band was very sparkly, and definitely caught my attention. But it sparkled differently from the bigger ring. They didn't compete with each other, but complimented each other.

So I would tend to either choose a band with stones that are the same size as the side stones of your engagement ring, or go for smaller, but different kind of sparkly.
