Will BGD and WF work together?

So, I want to go ahead with my 3-stone, and I have sidestones picked out from BGD. (WF has no ACAs in stock in the right size.) But I want a WF setting (Yssie's setting, Butterflies). Can I have BGD ship the sidestones to WF; will they work together? Will warranties be voided, will there be insurance issues? Or can BGD make a trellis ring that is similar enough that I will be happy with it? It seems ridiculous to use two different vendors for this relatively simple project, but it also seems silly NOT to just get the setting that is already perfect the way it is. I am making myself crazy with this and I know I'm making it more complicated than it needs to be. Reality checks appreciated!

BGD has some amazing trellis's already AND they will customize to suit --- perhaps it may even have been BG himself who designed the WF one originally! (I have ZERO knowledge if that is fact or not...)

Have you asked them directly if they could replicate the one you want? Send in the pics?

I know BGD has copied Yssie's Butterflies setting before, for another PSer. So he knows how to do it. But I would probably want the WF one just because it's the original. I bet WF could find you side stones if you just wait a little. It makes the most sense to get the ring and stones from the same place to avoid setting fees.

WhiteFlash gets new stones in every few weeks. Plus they can call in stones from other suppliers anytime. If they do the setting you like, I would simply call and ask them to find stones for you.

Another consideration that you will have to pay 8% Tax on BGD diamonds when directly shipped to Whiteflash, as they are both in Texas, that will add up to setting fee as well. I would try to keep the project at one place, personally.

Enerchi- yes, I adore the BGD Crossed Trellis setting. In fact, I believe you're the one who told me it was comfy and low-profile, which is exactly what I want. Gah. I thought I had decided on the Butterflies but now I am flipflopping again!

I kind of don't want BGD to try to copy the WF setting, although I'm sure they could. If I go with BGD it will be to get the BGD setting, which I love in its own right. Not sure if that makes sense...

Does anyone happen to know if the BGD is indeed lower profile than Butterflies? If so, I may get it after all, even though I very slightly prefer 6 prongs around the center stone. From pics, it also *seems* like Butterflies is curvier/swoopier (I want curvy/swoopy) but it's just so hard to tell A., whether that's true and B., whether it will even matter/be noticeable once I have the ring.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was thinking.

Thanks. I know you are right; I have to pick one vendor!

That's true, DS. I am sure they can help me out.

Oh DS! If I want curvy/swoopy, but I also want low and comfy, which setting is best???

Ugh, no way, I definitely don't want to get involved in that. I will definitely pick one or the other. Thank you so much for the info!!

They can make it as high or low as you want. My first Butterflies (the original) was a study in How Low Can You Go. I decided I personally preferred the stone set a bit higher, so I swung the other way and my second Butterflies had the stone set quite a bit higher - possibly too high for most PSers ::)

I actually started out with WF's stock trellis threestone and I have to say the 6 prongs around the center and three on the sides make for a very different look and feel IRL! The 6 prongs round out the center and the three-pronged sides become "pear'd" off rather than "squared" off - it just depends on what look *you* prefer, and how big the stones are. My sides have always been smaller so the prong alignment made a bigger difference, relatively.

If you want swoopy I'd err on the side of setting the stone lower - makes it easier to get a graceful curve up the shoulders ::)

I love the butterflies setting and would wait until whiteflash gets in 2 stones that will work for you. Do you already have a center stone?

Yssie, thanks so much for this. I guess what I still don't understand is whether the stock WF "Butterflies" is low or high. Do you know?

I definitely like 3 prongs for the sidestones; I do like that "pear'd" look. But the BGD Crossed Trellis has three prongs for the sides, too.

Thanks for your thoughts! Yes, I am using a 5.84mm family stone in the center. Part of my indecision is that I just can't completely picture how a stone that small will look in the Butterflies setting. I wonder if something will be lost in translation...

The setting itself can hold the stone very low, if that's what you mean?

The one on the L is my second butterflies, I asked for the stone to be set higher. The one on the right is the original with the stone set very low. I don't think there's a specific "stock height" that all the settings are made to hold to the stones at - you just say you want the stone set as low as possible and they cast it appropriately for you ::)

double post!

Oh, OK. I see now! :)

I so appreciate your taking the time to help me with this!

:wavey: What size stones are you wanting for the sides? I am just wondering if the 6 prongs might be overwhelming on a 5.8mm center. What color is your stone?

The stone is F color. I was thinking either .25 or .30 (each) for the sides; what do you think?

I do need finger coverage, so the other thing I am wondering about the WF ring is whether it will give me as much as the BGD- since the WF sidestones are set lower and sort of tuck under a bit; that look is so gorgeous with the large center stone, but I just can't seem to visualize it with mine.

If you scroll all the way to the bottom on the Butterflies setting page, WF shows examples of customers' rings. There's a Butterflies ring set with a 0.748 carat diamond. I think it looks great!

Here's the image of it, a 0.748 ACA:

I don't know if WF has modified their policies recently, but when I was calling around to vendors in August, at the beginning of my re-set project, they would not customize their settings unless I bought a center stone from them. I could pick from their "stock" items & the only modification that I could make was for a custom head to hold my original center stone. I totally understood their position given the amount of work that goes into a custom piece, so you may want to ask them whether you'll be able to lower or raise the ring or make any other changes if you buy the diamonds elsewhere. I'm just trying to help, so definitely talk with them about this directly to find out their current policies.

I think it will look great. My stone is just over 5.9mm and I had BGD switch the head from a 4-prong one to a 6-prong one and I like it SO much better.

Roxy, thanks, that's great to know. I will make sure I'm clear on WF's policies before proceeding.

That's great, stargurl! And it reassures me that whatever # of prongs I choose, there may be a fix down the line if I decide to change just the head!
