Will I have to go custom to set this stone?

I have my eye set on a Bespoke Gems stone that is 9 by 13, depth of 8 mm, kind of a elongated cushion or a elongated oval with squared off ends. I am thinking about setting this in a ring rather than a pendant.

Do you think I will be able to set this in a pre-existing semi mount, or will I have to go custom? This kid of determines whether I will buy it or not.....

I think it would be gorgeous in an open shank setting from Coast Diamonds! I was at a local jeweler who was having a big annual event this past weekend and met with a rep from that company and he had some interesting shaped stones with open settings on display. You can see them in the their color collection on the website.

I'd ask how deep the pavilion is below the girdle. It has a high crown which makes the depth measurement seem huge. If the pavilion depth would fit a standard 9x13 setting than you may luck out

Custom all the way. As with most large fancy cuts, there are remarkably few ready-made mountings unless the same factory cutting the gems also make the mountings.

You might be able to get away with a 12x9. If you don't mind overlap at the top and bottom.

I've found this - ok it's silver and the sapphires look awful but a very plain setting like this would work because the overlap wouldn't be an issue and you'd allow the central stone to show it's true beauty.

It depends on where the 9mm dimension is measured - at the ends or at the fat part in the middle.

I'd guess custom. But I will say that Doug is a wizard with topaz. He puts on the nicest polish I've ever seen with that stuff.
