I am just writing to ask for advice about a few things. I am starting to think about colors/dresses/suits for my October 2010 wedding. First of all, are certain fabrics off-limits? It''ll be an early afternoon wedding on October 10, and I most-likely will wear a shorter dress (think cute and Melissa Sweet), and it''s at an art gallery, so would going with something cotton and sleek be OK, or is it just not appropriate for the fall? We''re going for a rustic/modern vibe, since our venue incorporates both.

Another question, considering color now. I love gray, always have. I know the fall doesn''t really make you think gray, but would gray suits and gray dresses be too blah? I would accent with yellow and orange flowers, and colorful ties for the men. OR, should I do deep blue dresses and gray suits (or gray dresses with navy suits)? I just never saw anyone do the very monochromatic look, and especially not with those colors in the fall. For reference, this is my venue:

Thanks so much in advance, ladies!

Hi Lioness!

I don''t think gray would look bad at all -- I think a darker shade would look beautiful. When you open the gallery''s webpage and look at the shade about a quarter of the way up from the bottom of the screen, that''s the color I''m thinking of. And I think yellow accents would really make it pop! Sunflowers, mums, black-eyed susans all have the perfect orangey-yellow fall colors and rustic vibe, and I think they''d work great paired with the sleek and modern dresses and suits. I''m pretty sure there have been some gray-and-yellow color schemes posted on Style Me Pretty, they might give you inspiration.

Also, I think a cotton dress for you would be fine, since October is usually still pretty warm here. Maybe instead of a really lightweight cotton, you could find something in a slightly heavier fabric like cotton twill, which would be sleeker? Regardless, you should go with what YOU love.

I like the idea of grey in the fall, I think it complements oranges/yellows and also looks great with the other color you mentioned, blue.

Gray for both the groomsmen''s suits and bridesmaid dresses seems a bit much to me though. I love your idea of doing gray suits for the guys and blue dresses for the girls. Then you can have them wear silver accents to pick up more of the ''gray'' theme. Since you are in an art gallery I would add some brights (like yellows and oranges) in the way of bouquets/sashes/ties/vests to make the group look lively and artistic.

As to your dress, a short cotton one could be lovely! I would just think about whether you will be warm enough. I find that even in a short dress velvet vs. light cotton can make a big difference in how warm/cool I am. I think the only way you would look silly is if your hands and toes are blue :)

Personally? I think the color scheme sounds chic and sophisticated, and I LOVE the sweet, surprising elegance of a non-floor-length dress, regardless of the season.

Add to which your venue is an art gallery, which pretty much BEGS for out-of-the-box ideas for an event like this. I really think you have perfected the concept of coordinating the venue with the season, with the conceptual design of the event, with the fashion. It will look great, very stylish!

I agree with the others - I think that grey sounds super cute and sophisticated, and as long as there are plenty of accent colors (LOVE the idea of blue and grey

) you should be in good shape. I think you could also have fun incorporating the idea of shades of grey and maybe even some silver.

I think grey and blue would look AWESOME at Artesano!!! That place is just so amazing and it sounds like you and your FI will totally fit in there with your ideas.

I also think a short dress would look awesome there as well. The art and decor are sorta on the funky/modern side and will jive so nicely with a non-traditional gown.

I really can''t wait to see how your wedding unfolds there!! Its such a kick ass venue! Every time FI and I go to church we walk by there and I sort of cast a wistful glance at that lovely patio and wrought iron balcony.

Love the gray/navy thought! I think its very stylish and minimalist feeling! And I think the yellow/orange accents would work well with them! I think I would go with navy dresses with gray accents and gray suits with either navy shirts or navy ties.

I think grey suits with blue dresses looks stunning and sophisticated, regardless of the season

I''m very much looking forward to seeing what you put together!

What a cool place! I think the colors you mentioned would look great:)

I don''t think gray would be blah at all. In fact, with the flower colors you''ve described, I think the outfits will really "pop." I think that color scheme is going to work really well with your venue, which I must say is fantastic. I think you''re wedding is going to be one of a kind and one people remember.

Love the gray & yellow/orange idea. Not blah at all.

With the colours you have described, I think your colour scheme would look awesome. If you love grey, then you should incorporate it into your colours. I personally think it will look fabulous!

My photographers actually recommends suits that are not black (gray, khaki). They say they photograph much better, and I tend to agree!

Also, yellow/gray and red/gray are two of my favorite combos! Not sure if you considered red, but it looks so pretty mixed with oranges and yellows. Perfect for fall!

Gun metal grey is a really pretty shade of grey. I don''t think that would be too drab at alllll

Yes, put have your FI wear gray! Gray is my favorite color! I think it can do no wrong and it never crossed my mind to have FI not wear it.

Sorry for the late response ladies. I really, really appreciate everyone''s input. I am so glad to hear that the color combo won''t go against what is typically seen in the fall and look completely out of place. I am so excited for your approval, LOL! I do argee that maybe not EVERYONE should wear gray, but rather just the men and the ladies in a dark/navy blue. Now to find a modern style that isn''t to sexy-looking, but isn''t too frumpy either...

I think that sounds awesome!

As another non-floor-length-dress bride, I think it sounds like a fantastic idea! I also agree with others that a dark grey with pops of yellow and/or orange would look very sophisticated.

ETA: My girls will wear navy and the boys will wear grey (hopefully) with pops of orange, so I guess it's obviously why I like the color scheme

I really like the blue and grey too. FYI Aria has a really pretty navy fabric that you can get their dresses in. My friend used it for her wedding, and it was gorgeous. I also agree that the shorter dress is going to be so fun and playful in an art gallery setting.

I still check out my photographer''s blog from time to time and she recently shot a wedding at an art museum that you may be interested in looking at. The bride also wore a really cute short dress which made me think of it.

Gray is a great color! One of my upcoming brides has chosen this dress for her bridesmaids: J. Crew Dress in the color graphite. They are carrying orange and pink flowers (at least that''s the current plan). It''s a fall wedding also, and I think it sounds really chic and sophisticated. And the gray makes such a perfect backdrop for color. I love the idea!

Oh Facetfire! I was looking at that dress actually! I love how the feminine fabric and cut of the dress is at odds with the color. It''s unexpected and chic.
