Will Tiffany polish a ring I bought secondhand?

I just purchased a Tiffany Harmony platinum e-ring off of eBay, and I have read mixed reports on how Tiffany handles this situation. I really just want them to polish the platinum back to "like new" for me. It would be a bonus if they would transfer ring ownership to me in their records -- I did read of one person here on PS that achieved this, but I'm not sure if it was a fluke or not. I will have the original receipt and cert, but of course there will be a different name associated with the ring in their database. I am aware that polishing requires that they ship it to their service center in NY, and that there's a fee (hopefully <$100 ?)...

Anybody have any recent experiences with this? Thanks!

PS: I'm the girl in this scenario, not a guy trying to pass off a secondhand ring as new. ;)2 I wanted the Harmony setting without the Tiffany price. (May have to pay Tiffany prices for the matching Harmony band though in the future!)

I don’t know if Tiffany changes “ownership” in their database, they may not keep any customer information, just the full details of the ring and it’s sale.
Plenty of people inherit Tiffany rings and/or receive them so the “ownership” is in having the ring and it’s accompanying paperwork.
I do know that they won’t “authenticate Tiffany rings, you have to have the Tiffany diamond certificate and sales receipt, which is the authentication. They also won’t provide a new ring box.
But they do apparently offer ring resizing and polishing for free if you have their original paperwork.

I have a pre-owned Tiffany ring, too, but haven’t taken it in yet. From what I understand they will polish it for free. I do not think they will put the ring in your name. They will resize it for you, but you’ll have to pay for that. I’ve heard it’s around $175. Let me know how it goes for you! I’m waiting to take mine in during summer to have it resized in case my finger swells in the heat.

You’ve heard mixed reports because every SA in every store might handle it a little differently ::)

If you do not have a buying history and a relationship with an SA I highly doubt they will be willing to do any ownership paperwork for you. Never hurts to ask though!

Servicing that you pay for (not the free in-store cleaning) is effective authentication because they will not work on non-authentic pieces. I don’t know what they would do with a non-authentic piece - I suspect charge you for shipping plus full service and do nothing. Unfortunately these days fraudulent vendors are forging certificates, receipts, and packaging along with the pieces themselves, so having receipt and cert is not as much of a guarantee as it used to be :(sad

I had a bracelet polished last year. ~$150. Took ~4 weeks.

If you have a newer Tiffany ring, it should have a laser inscribed number on the diamond that matches the certificate as well. My appraiser was able to check to make sure mine was there, so I feel more confident bringing it in to the store.

They will. I always take my Tiffany items to the store and no longer even have receipts
