Will you get the new Omicron updated booster?

My husband and I got the Shringix vaccine. IIRC Greg had no ill side effects and I had a fever for a day or two. Not worse than the Covid vaccine side effects for me. We got both Shingrix vaccines 6 months apart. I had shingles before and let me say the vaccine is worth it. I hope I never get shingles again

I hope you never get it again either! It looks so painful and I can only imagine how painful it is to bear. Thanks for letting me know how you both fared with the vaccine. Even though you had some side effects, they certainly sound doable. It will be next on my list - thanks again!!

My pleasure @MissGotRocks
I make sure all my friends know because I would hate for anyone to go through what I did since it’s largely preventable. TG for vaccines. They are truly miracles for so many

I wish I’d gotten the flu shot when it was first offered. I’ll be flying commercial next week - unexpectedly - which I always think of as a cold or flu waiting to happen this time of year. I’ll try to get a flu shot on Monday but it wouldn't help much on the flight since it isn’t fully effective for two weeks. Fortunately it’s only a1 1/2 hour flight. I might mask up during the flight to be on the safe side. I’m flying to help a friend move, which will involve 4-5 days on the road, and it would be a real drag to be sick while driving long distances.

I had Covid at the end of June so I’m planning to wait at least a few more weeks before getting my second booster, since some doctors advise waiting 4-6 months.

My mom received the new booster earlier this week and had no reaction whatsoever (not even soreness).

Unfortunately, I won't be eligible now as Covid finally got me this week despite being more cautious than most (as it has with so many others). Fortunately, my symptoms are so mild/fleeting that I might not realized I had it if I weren't so vigilant about testing. Wednesday night I felt wiped out after work - not entirely unusual except this time, instead of a 30 minute power nap, I slept for 11 hours. But I woke up feeling perfectly rested and fine. Took a test out of an abundance of caution and was admittedly surprised to see the second line appear. Other than an extremely mild headache on Day 2 that lasted a few hours (not even warranting taking anything), I have had no other symptoms knock on wood (it's officially day 3 - with the first day being 0). No fever, cough or sore throat. I do think that the fact that my 2nd booster was only 3 months ago may have helped (even though not the new one).

This really has reinforced how contagious this remains and how easy it is to have it without realizing it even if vigilant The doctor said my case is very typical of what they are seeing this wave. I am supposed to take my mom on a trip next week (Day 9). The doctor has said that getting one negative test, much less two 48 hours apart, is a long shot but we're keeping our fingers crossed so we don't have to cancel.

Admittedly, there is a sense of relief to have finally gotten it and during a week I am not with my mom as she is the reason I am being so cautious (although the reality is she could get it just as I did). I know you can get it again but I do feel a sense of added protection at least in the short term.

On a side note - My doctor hasn't suggested the shingles vaccine although she did for my husband. Perhaps because I have had shingles twice....25 years apart. The first time was so painful. I was pregnant so couldn't take anything and remember laying in bed - not wanting even sheets touching me. The second time was very mild and isolated. The doctor prescribed something to curb it - she said had to be prescribed within 2-3 days of symptoms to be effective. It cleared up almost immediately without further spread.

I'm happy for you that your Covid symptoms have been so mild. Crossing fingers that you can take your trip.
As for the Shingles vax, are you and your husband the same age? I only ask because I think Shingles can recur more than once so I was a bit surprised your doctor only recommended it for your husband.

He is 7 years older but we are both in our 60's. It may be because I've had shingles TWICE, the last time being less than 10 years ago.

Feeling totally blah today, sore arm that got the shots,no energy, headache and just general blah that is more than just my neck and arm pain. Worst reaction to any covid vaccine I have had.
I have heard the same from a few others that the new pfizer vaccine caused more side effects than the others.
Nothing scientific but interesting.
Symptoms lasted about 36 hours and overall were not that bad. If it was not on top of other stuff I likely would have noticed them a lot less.
If/when another booster is needed down the road I will get it.

hubby got his booster a week ago today....very little side effects....however he just tested positive for covid here about an hour ago...damn it......lets add insult to injury appears hubby got it from his 97 year old dad..ugh....his dad is pretty much incapable of taking care of himself...hubby said dad been coughing for a week but no one tested him....they just did and it came back positive.

Does his father live in a senior home of some type where he is supposedly cared for? If so, the fact that they didn't test him seems very irresponsible if he was coughing. Do you think your husband may have already been exposed by the time he got the booster? Just wondering if he was positive before or after the booster, and also how serious his symptoms might be. I hope both he and his father are not suffering too much and that they both recover quickly.

I had covid pretty early on... back in December of 2020. My only symptoms were loss of taste and smell (which, for this foodie, was unbearable!). They returned after a couple of months (and certain flavors were still straaange for a while). Anyway, I received the 3rd booster this morning (bivalent) and man, it's laying me out. Anyone else experience this? I'm extremely fatigued with a raging headache and body pain. I don't recall this with the other shots.

The bivalent “booster” was the mildest of amy of them, for me. Only had a slightly tender injection site, but no fatigue, etc. This was a surprise to me!

i hope you’re back to 100% soon.

Yes, weird that it would knock me out like this! Thank you!!

Yes, I had the same symptoms as you are experiencing with the bivalent booster. For me, it lasted 48 hours.

Not planning on getting it. Had Covid in July and I was fully
immunized.

May I ask which version you had (pfizer/moderna/etc.)? Also, the important thing to remember is that immunization does not mean you won't contract covid, but that you'll be faaar less likely to be hospitalized or die from a severe infection. There's a reason why this pandemic has fizzled, and it's the vaccine/boosters. That being said, it's a personal decision and I respect yours... I can also understand your frustration!!

So then it's not only me! Oh wow, 48 hours. I have a function on Sunday and was really hoping to be tip top. Ah well... thank you!

It is not only you. DH was miserable too, but his lasted 36 hours. Gentle hugs to you and I am hopeful you will be feeling much better by Sunday!

I will get it but it's too soon for us since spouse and I both deferred our second booster to coincide with some international travel (for the short-lived protection) and then the bivalent booster was announced right after. But we expect to get it -- or whatever comes next. Maybe they'll be like Apple products and I'll always be buying right before the upgrade is announced. :cool2:

no he lives at home, but my sister in law lives with him and takes care of him in the evening and hubby is there during the day and I think the reason they didnt test him is because he is in poor health and he has congestive heart failure and coughs alot anyway but hubby has noticed that his dad was feeling worse than usual and they called his doctor twice thinking maybe his sodium levels were off again but doctor never called back (I dislike his doctor) I dont think hubby was exposed when he got the booster, he wasnt around his dad until Tuesday this week and hubby started showing symptoms on Thursday but didnt test until yesterday so who knows, it all just sucks, so far I am symptom free but we all know that means nothing, I am more worried about our 25 year old son who has not gotten a booster since last November, I been on him to get it but you cant force a 25 year old to do anything....he has pretty bad asthma but otherwise is in good health, so he I seriously worry about....I am also worried about the 97 year old father in law, they all just lost their mom last year, this would be a horrible hit to lose him this year.

I've had the regular booster a few months ago. Exposed four times so far from my kids and husband. Was cuddling with my hubby when he was running a fever with full COVID (before we realized what was going on) . I never caught a symptomatic case or tested positive. Thankfully, he is fine now.

Now I wonder if these exposures work like a booster. I would imagine I caught it and got rid of it, never getting sick. Very confusing. Would anyone know?

I had J&J and two Moderns boosters so far.

My sister has also never caught it although she had daily exposures treating COVID patients and administering antibody treatments.

I am not sure if I need it.

I got the booster on Tues. at 10:00 a.m. and by 11:30 felt like an old car with 1/4 tank of gas and one spark plug trying to race a maserati. I napped most of Tues. & Wed. This is the strongest reaction I've had to any of the covid shots and boosters. Arm was plenty sore too. Moderna.

Same and same!

I got the Moderna booster and flu shot this morning about 11:30. Too soon for side effects, but my head is starting to feel weird.

This is what I’ve thought from the beginning. It’s makes sense. But for reasons I won’t mention they’ve been dragging their heels on admitting this.

My husband had zero reaction to his third vaccine. We tested his antibodies after an appropriate amount of time. Zero. He had another booster (this time had some reaction) and this time made antibodies. He never gets a super strong read but any reaction is something if you kwim.

So while I’m not equating severity of reaction to amount of antibodies produced I do think if one has no reaction one should test their antibodies and go from there.

As with all things there is no one rule fits all or one size fits all. People vary.

Yesterday I got the Moderna booster in one arm, and the flu shot in the other.
Then went home and took a long nap.:doh::doh::naughty::naughty::naughty: :nono: :nono: :nono:

Now I learn that was the worst thing I could have done.
I should have moved the arms around to get the vaccines to spread throughout the muscle.
What I did let it concentrate near the injection site, which leads to more muscle inflammation. :knockout:

Also, after getting a good and long night's rest I feel like I didn't sleep at all, I feel very fatigued.
Weird. I've never had a problem before with vaccine shots.

No I won't, I've had 3 and already had Covid (mildly) so don't really see the need for it at this point....

I think its pretty common. I never sleep well after the Moderna booster.
