Wire haired pointing griffin, how to groom

Hi,
Anyone have a wire haired pointing griffin dog? I hear there are several ways to groom. Hair stripping, or razor shave. Any groomers or pet owners out there?!

Hand or razor stripping is not really for beginners. You can cause a lot of trauma to the skin which can be painful for your dog. Have a groomer show you how to do this. My husband is experienced in this from when we had a Bouvier.

I would think that hand stripping is the way to groom. The Korthal griffon is quite similar to the Spinone Italiano, with a rough wiry coat. We don’t handstrip ours as she doesn’t have the typical coat, and isn’t a show dog. There are probably videos on YouTube, but it’s quite a specialised thing and very time consuming.

Our girl loathes being groomed, so we get her clipped as she has a soft coat.

If you don’t want to do the hand stripping, would a traditional scissors cut be ok? Not a shave, since that hair may not grow back Wiery.

The purists tell you that you shouldn’t cut their coat. You can get stripping combs that will take out all the dead coat.

Hi Missy,
The sweetie belongs to a work colleague who was inquiring about grooming. My son's girlfriend is a dog and cat groomer, and just purchased a mobile van!
She told me about the different methods with these pointers, but I just wanted to know if any PS'ers had this type of dog!

Yes, that’s what they look like! Very friendly and good pets. I currently have no pets inside, but my hubby and I take care of semi feral cats. Most of them have been spayed and or neutered. We spend tons of money on food.
Costco, once a week. All of my bling money goes to these furry babies!

We care for the neighborhood ferals too. So many ferals it's overwhelming at times and even with us trapping and neutering new ones keep coming.
If only more people were responsible pet owners and spayed and neutered their furbabies.
