Okay. So I think I''ve decided on a setting and have it down to two different diamonds. Here''s what I could use some opinions on:

1) One diamond is 5.60-5.61 mm and the other is 5.71 to 5.77 mm.

I''ve heard you won''t notice 0.1 mm in difference. What about 0.15 mm?

2) Is the difference noticeable enough to make up for the difference between VS1 and VVS1? The diamond specs are below:

Diamond 1: .66 ct., D, VVSI, Ideal cut, HCA 1.3, 5.60 x 5.61 mm

Diamond 2: .71 ct., D, VS1, Ideal cut, HCA 0.9, 5.77 x 5.71 mm

3) How do you think diamonds of this size would look with this setting? Are they big enough to look right?

4) Finally, what about the security of the prongs in that setting. I don''t normally feel comfortable getting her a 4 prong, but the setting is platinum. What about the size/security of these particular prongs? Would this be considered a more secure 4 prong setting?

Let me know what you think. Which diamond would you pick and why? Thanks a bunch everyone.

She is 4''11 so size isn''t something I''m THAT concerned with. We tried on several rings and she thought .70 was about right, if not a bit big. The sales lady and I convinced her that .70 looked just right. I''m not sure of the spread or dimensions of the diamond we looked at though. Is this .66 going to look noticeably smaller given the fact that it is a small .66 (54% table)?

1) maybe, maybe not.

2) No difference between VVS1 to VS1, both will be eye-clean.

Ditto SC - 1) depends on your sight, 2) both will be clean no matter how closely you look from any angle.

Are you set on those very high colour/clarity grades? If you want to gain size you could drop to F/G VS2 and with little to no difference in appearance.

She thought a .75 was too big for her hand size, so I think I''m comfortable in the .65-.70 range. Any thoughts on either of those two?

Also, what about the prongs on that ring? Do they classify as "double prongs"? Are they thick enough that I shouldn''t worry?

Hi henearly

You could notice a slight difference between the two sizes with direct comparison, when set not so much.

Both VS and VVS should be eyeclean so its down to preference and budget which to pick.

Both propotion are just fine, should have nothing to worry about.

The prongs are just standard 4 prong, should be fine. That said, any design or alloy can fail with a large enough force so just buy insurance if you are worried about that happening.
