Would a 3 stone ring look crazy in the O-P range?

Three stone, matching colors, simple setting.

Oh, I remember that stone, I looked at it for a long time and almost bought it a while back! :D I'm with Dreamer - matching 3 stone in a simple setting. I think it will look beautiful, and very substantial!

Hey Sarahbear!
Have you seen this setting? I know you are cruising all possible websites, so this may be old news, but it sure appealed to me - thought I'd share!

From ERD - I think they were on your short list, right?

I actually did see that one. It is pretty but it doesn't tug at my heart strings...also I'm against bezels. Have no idea why as I like them on CS's, but I just don't care for bezeled diamonds. I'm sure we could change the design to prongs but it still doesn't move me. I plan on contacting Mark, when I have a better idea of design as I would really like to work with him. I like trying new vendors and so far I have been unimpressed with getting quotes from other places (except VC- always wonderful to work with him...but still just over budget).

Yssie,

If you don't mind could you contact me through one of my LT listenings? I would like to contact you offline if that is allright with some questions.

Hi Sarah -
Sure thing, I should be home in a couple of hours :))

Just sent one ::)

Just a quick update that I signed on the dotted line with SK today. I'm pretty excitied for what is to come!

:appl: Fantastic! Can't wait to see this new lovely ring-to-be!!

Ok so the saga continues....

Can I have someone's opinions of these as sides? I realize it is 1 picture to go off of, but it is what I have to work with. They are my top choice but as I won't see all 3 together in person I'm concerned. Would love to have your thoughts!

I think they should work find, I have found in the 4mm range that faceting differences between sides and a center don't matter too much. But they look round and have small tables, and that should "match up" to the center. Have you seen a profile shot?

The only "issue" is that the small sides are going to perform very differently optically than the center. They will perhaps look "whiter" because of their optics (smaller flash because of their size), compared to the center which will show more body color and have broader bolder flash. This is only something you could assess in person, but maybe SK can evaluate for you? It would be less of an issue with sides approaching 5mm IMO, or less of an issue with less tinted stones. But with tinted stones, my experience is these differences in optics can result in differences in "apparent color". You may or may not be bothered.

Thank you Dreamer! They are sending me a video tomorrow to show me some more angles, which I hope to compare to the center. I'm not really color sensative and I think when all the diamonds are set the color difference will be neglible. I don't mind a little off but I don't want to look down at my hand and notice a major color difference. I will have everything shipped to SK for him to look at but I guess my issue is if he gets them and thinks they are not good then who deals with returning them...if I can even return them etc? I guess I should ask about how that works.

PERFECT sizes!! Small enough to highlight the center, big enough that it still looks like a threestone rather than stone + accents.

I agree w/ Dreamer that the nuances of faceting sort-of get lost in the smaller sizes - up close and in macro pics the five stones I used for my mum's ring were pretty different, but IRL the differences really weren't what you focused on at all! In your case I think everyone will be too busy admiring the centerstone and setting to pay much attention to the sides beyond recognising that they're *there*, if you know what I mean? So the particulars are really just for your benefit :cheeky:

Edit - what metal have you chosen - well, if you've chosen? I think some metal colours are generally more forgiving of varying 'apparent colour' than others, though antiques can be so unpredictable in how they face up!

Yssie,

Right now I'm going between some version of unplated white gold or rose gold. It is honestly going to come down to when all 3 diamonds are together and how they look next to those metals. I'm hoping SK will have some advise. Right now I'm sort of leaning towards white gold as I want to do some miligraining/engraving on the ring and I think it will look less antique-y if I use rose gold. For some reason I always picture rose gold as a bit more modern.

Will SK work with white gold? He gave me an unequivocal "no" when I inquired last year, which was disappointing.

18k rose gold is more coppery and very Victorian

Yes he said he would. That was actually a big point that I double checked on because I was 99% sure I didn't want to do PLAT.

I totally agree Dreamer! :appl: I forgot about that era! I guess I should have worded my response better. I want this ring to be classic and timeless...well perhaps a hint of art deco if possible. But I worry if I do it in rose gold it will change the tone of what I'm trying to go for....but then I think of Haven's ring which is my favorite rose gold ring of all time!

Huh, ok. Maybe I caught him on a bad day :cheeky: Good thing you checked for your project.

I adore Haven's ring  her basket is plat though, and I'm wondering if that sort of two-tone distinction be an option for yours... I do think elaborate all rose-gold pieces can become a bit overwhelming if one isn't really careful about the design - it's such a "strong" colour. But a designer/benchman like SK should be able to manage that and maintain the aesthetic you want.

I'll be interested to see how the comparisons look :sun:

Sarah, did you make a 3 stone? I have started a 3 stone project and would love to see yours!

Hi Skippy! Sorry I just saw this- my ring should be done the second week in January. It really took me a long time to settle on a design as I think everything that I was leaning towards just wouldn't look right in a 3 stone version. The reveal is coming with pics! But feel free to ask me any questions as I got quotes from many vendors and looked around at many rings for inspiration. Ultimately I kept going between 3 different styles. After talking to Steven we decided on one and the rest is history! I'm super excitied though for it to arrive! :appl:

Can't wait to see! I so love three stones!

Skippy, not to thread jack but have you picked out ideas yet for yours?

Packrat, I will start a thread soon in RT; i am waiting on a quote.

Adam at OWD sourced them for me. He found them for half of what other vendors quoted me.

I am looking forward to seeing your finished ring. The diamonds you chose are lovely.

I have found that the prices of antique stones have skyrocketed, so it's good to know Adam can source stones at reasonable prices. I am looking for a match to an 0.18 carat OEC and will give him a call!

yay, I called him because I did buy 2 OEC's that are in the .80 range but they aren't a match, one will work but I need the other to match. I will keep the 2nd one because it is a beautiful transitional for a pendant or something. sorry for the threadjack! It is just nice to talk to someone doing a 3 stone ring, thanks

Lulu definitely call him. I was not really impressed by his online selection and I found him to be awesome on email and phone. He does youtubes videos for you which give you such a better idea of what you are buying vs. a picture. Plus he walked down the diamonds to SK's office so I didn't have to worry about shipping etc. Adam really made the entire process very easy.
