I purchased a 1.33 carat sapphire from Jeff Davies. I pretty much lurk here but have had a couple rings made in the last few months. One was for my mom and the other for my mother-in-law. I now plan on having some rings made for me, one with this sapphire and another eventually with a blue zircon I have from litnon. The sapphire is rather unique and I knew it had color zoning before I purchased it. I plan on getting it set in either white gold or silver. May have to go with silver. It is a darker sapphire face up, and I am fine with that. However for some reason I really like looking at it table side down. It is unusual and both my hubby and mom think I should have it set the normal way. I am going to include a couple of pics under normal indoor lighting. One is table side showing which is the darker side and the other pic shows both clear and blue zoning with the table down. I really am open to opinions. I want to take my time on this. Thank you!image_427.jpg

You like to see the variation of colouration? My concern is that the culet will poke either you or someone else accidentally if set upside down. I expect it to stick out around 4 mm or so, which also risks the culet getting damaged.

Hi Chrono. Yes I really like seeing the coloration like that. To me it is like a piece of art. It doesn't feel too sharp but I didn't think about it scratching anyone. I didn't realize the culet on a sapphire could be damaged easily. These are definitely some things I need to consider. Thank you for your input.
