would love opinions on this diamond - 1.74 princess cut

It's impossible to determine a princess cut s(or any fancy shape) performance based on numbers alone. You really need to be able to see actual images of the diamond and an ASET. Unfortunately BN doesn't offer either of these. Would you consider another vendor?

Christina, Thank you for your reply! I have to answer your question with another question...CAN I use another vendor? I have my heart set on a BlueNile setting that I haven't found anywhere else. If I bought a diamond from another vendor and asked BlueNile to put it in their ring, how would that work exactly? Sorry if this is a dumb question...this is all very new to me and I'm learning as I go. Thank you!!

Sakari, thank you for looking! I will take a look at the options you have posted.

Not a dumb question at all! I think it's usually advisable to use the same vendor for both stone and setting, otherwise it can be a huge headache shipping back and forth and such. I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't think that BN will set outside stones or sell their settings without a center stone. but again I don't know that for a fact.

AGSL is currently the only lab that grades the light performance of princess cuts. If I were buying blind, this would be important to me. BN does have a decent return period though so you could return the stone if you were unhappy with it. You could also purchase you own ASET to use yourself at home after you've received the stone. You could even take photos and post them here for help assessing them.

Do you have a specific size/color/clarity preference? Which setting are you considering?

I have a budget of $14k for the diamond and I prefer around a 1.75 or slightly bigger but I don't care if I make the 2.0 carat mark, I'd rather have better color/clarity. I have been looking mainly at H color and VVS2. I might go a grade lower on clarity but it would really be specific to how clean that particular diamond looked.

This is the setting I have picked and I really have my heart set on it, sentimental reasons, as it is actually replacing a ring set that I lost that is VERY similar.

I agree, this could be a nice option for you!

+3 for this option!!! It's bigger and 2k LESS!!! You can order the BN setting and take this to your local jeweler to have it set. Be sure to give the dimensions and to have the stone insured because princess cut stones can be hard to set. can I ask which setting you wanted?

I was going to post that ring, so I am glad it was posted. But just FYI, two little birds, we aren't allowed to post our own links of items for sale.

I would not recommend ordering the rings from Blue Nile if you don't buy the diamond there. We have seen bad results when taking a diamond and the settings to someone local to set. They haven't sold either the diamond or the setting, so if there is a problem, you are stuck! Go buy the settings locally and take them the diamond to set if you buy the diamond second hand or not at BN. That setting can likely be ordered by any jeweler as it is a pretty standard style.

Yes, I absolutely agree with DS, you can find that setting locally through another vendor. And like DS said it's almot impossible to get a vendor who hasn't sold the stone or the setting to take responsibility for damage to either. Stuller likely has a setting very similar and almost all BM carry their settings or have access to them. I'll take a look and see what I can find.
