Would someone vet this for me please?

Oops, cross posted that you think the kunzites are too pinkish.

You know, if you don't mind treatments, it opens up a whole new world of options...

Yenny, do you know how you plan to wear this? Is it every day or occasional wear? Are you hard on your rings? Because if you're not, then you might just be able to get away with the original pink tourm you posted. Just a thought.

MB, it won't be an everyday ring (maybe once a week?) and I'm pretty careful with my jewelry. Maybe it's worth having the stone sent to me??

If you want more sparkle, I'd keep looking. A pale pink spinel (super pale in that size will be affordable) will be really pretty when the sun shines on it although trying to find an emerald cut in any gem type isn't going to be easy.

Maybe I will look into having one cut. Other than showing examples of the color I want and the look I want the emerald cut to have, what other info should I give the cutter? Thanks!

It's risky having something cut because you are clearly very definite about your colour likes/dislikes - which is excellent - but not when having a gemstone cut. There are no guarantees of the exact tone the stone will turn out. Couple that with the fact that you're asking for a specific size and shape then it may deter cutters.

When you have some time, post of photos of colours you like. It may be easier finding a stone.

BTW, I highly doubt any of the Kunzites I've posted will be the colour in the links. They are far more likely to be a baby pink. OMG I've just realised, I may have one! What size are you looking for????????

EDIT: Ok, I will need to take a photo of it and if it fits, you are more than welcome to it (if you like it) and you just pay for the postage. I originally bought it in a ring but I only wanted the setting. I took the Kunzite out and replaced it with an Aqua. It's a 9x7mm if that fits your setting?

Aww, LD that is absolutely the sweetest offer ever, thank you!

You're welcome - I've justed edited my post as I've found the stats and it's a 9x7mm and very pale pink. If it's the right dimensions, I'll take photos of it tomorrow and you can decide.

Hi LD, the stone that was in the setting was 9.42 x 8.06 x 5.57mm, so do you think it would work? I think a good bench could make it fit properly...thank you so much for your sweet offer! I can't wait to see the photo (and would also love to see a photo of the setting it was in with your aqua in it!! :naughty: )

It might fit! Worse case scenario you will see a tiny bit of the basket metal on either side of the stone but it depends on the profile of your setting.

This is the setting that it was originally in (now with the aqua) - oh yuck my fingers look really fat and I've lost tons of weight since then!

Gotta love PS - and LD's generosity! =) :appl:

Ok- it's 9 x 7 x 5.5. I've just taken some pictures but please bear in mind that it's evening here so this is under artificial light. I will NOT be offended in the slightest if you don't want it so please don't worry if it's not for you!

Disclaimer: It's incredibly pale. I mean it's a hint of a tint of pink! Once set it will look pinker I think (I remember it looking a bit more pink years ago). The cut is okay but not precision cut. On the upside it's lovely and clean.

How kind and generous of you LD to pass along that beautiful pink Kunzite! Hopefully yennyfire thinks it is the right colour for her because that would look AMAZING in her setting!

So sweet of you!!!

Hi LD,

That aqua is gorgeous! I can see why you loved that setting! A match made in heaven!

It looks gorgeous to me! I AM quite fair skinned, so I'd imagine it will look pinker on me. There isn't much of a gallery on the Flyer setting, so I'm not sure what it would look like if it doesn't fit well. Let me email Grace and see what she thinks. If she thinks it will work, could I pay for you to ship it to her for setting (or at least assessment)? LD, I can't thank you enough for your generosity, both in offering the stone and in sharing your wealth of knowledge with me today. :appl: You are a gem (pun intended!) :cheeky:

Yes of course you can Yenny. Honestly it's a pretty stone but it's not sensational quality because Kunzite is typically judged by how dark pink it is! My skin colour is the reason why I can't wear this (and won't ever use it). I can't wear Morganite either for the same reason! I'm Morganite coloured.

If Grace (presume you mean Grace of Erica Grace?) wants me to ship the stone to her I can certainly do that. If I ship it to her and it's not going to work then all I'd ask (if you don't want to keep it) is that you offer it to another PSer via the forum so it can end up in a good home!

Sorry for not being clear. Yes, I meant Grace at JBEG, which is where the setting is. If Grace doesn't think it will work, I will offer it up here and/or ship it back to you, whichever you prefer.

I'm such a CS noob, I can't say one way or the other what kind of stone girl I am. Time to start learning! ;)) I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from Grace.

I am astounded by LD's generosity! It's a win-win for everyone; the OP gets a step cut pale pink that is very likely to fit her setting and LD's stone gets to be set and loved. :appl: I hope everything will work out well.

Yenny

Just just me know when/if you want me to send it and I'll do so. I'm sure, as this is the start of your venture into coloured gemstones, you will very quickly want to seek out better gems but the learning process is fun. A word of warning though - it's highly addictive!

I will never use that stone in all honesty (because of the skin colour issue) so if it's not for you then please do offer it up on PS. If it does work in your setting I would love to see a photo! I have to say that I adore the setting you have, it's incredibly beautiful and I wouldn't part with it either!

Thanks LD, I'll keep you posted. I'm honestly terrified of venturing into the world of colored stones. I think it's may be like my relationship with candy...I won't be able to stop at just 10!!

 Welcome to our world!!!! You'll probably find buying diamonds incredibly easy after you've spent some time with us and dipped your toe into CS land!!! There's so much candy but you don't ever get sick which is a bonus!

Its so funny to hear someone say they are afraid of CS - if you only knew how afraid of diamonds I am - hearts and arrows and something-sets; oecs and antiques and...

One more thought: perhaps for kicks we can start a thread with mounts in which we seek stones and see if LD just happens to have the perfect one lying around...hee hee. I'll gladly start and ask if you have lying around a peachy/lavender oval Burma spinel measuring about 11x9 with a high crown? :naughty: Hee Hee.

Nice try Minous!!!!

I guess it would sound funny to a CS veteran MB! I guess the bottom line with any stone is that if you love it, it's all good. However, I never want to overpay for what I purchase and that's where the fear comes in for me with CS's....there's SO much to know. Not to mention that every time you buy a stone, you need a setting (or else you start a little collection in a box to be enjoyed now and then)....I'd imagine that gets really expensive! :knockout:

LD, Grace said that the stone will work. I've asked her for an address to send it to.
If you want to go to the post office and see what the price is to the West Coast of the US (I'm not sure where you are) and then send me an invoice, I'm yennyfire on DB. Or, if you let me know how to reach you, I'd be more than happy to do so. I can't wait to see this combo, it's going to be awesome!! Thank you so, so much!

Yenny - good to hear! I'm in the UK actually so it may take a week or two to get to Grace. I'll message you on DB in a minute so I can get the address and I'll post it tomorrow. x

Yenny - I've just gone onto DB and for the life of me I can't find how to send a message! Will you send me one please and then maybe I'll see how to answer!!! My name on there is lovemybling

EDIT: I've emailed Grace direct to ask for her address. I'll drop you a note if she replies! If not, if you could try to contact me on DB I'd be grateful.

Hi LD,

I'll give you the address here and then on DB too. JEBG's address is:

JbEG LLC
PO Box 8481
La Crescenta CA 91224

If you reference the Martin Flyer setting, Grace will know that the stone is from you for me. :)

I am still stunned by your generosity. I feel like I've won the lottery!

For those of you who are interested, here are a couple of photos that Grace took with LDs stone in the Flyer setting. I think it looks perfect!  :appl: :appl:

LD, thank you again for your generosity in sharing your stone with me! Your thoughtfulness is really amazing! I can't wait to wear it and will post some handshots then!

Wow, not only does it fit well but the colour is perfect for you. I like the cutting on it too. It's not just a plain old regular step cut and looks to have a decent crown height.
