Would someone vet this for me please?

It is absolutely perfect Chrono. If I had hand picked it myself, that's exactly what I would have chosen. I get that from a value perspective, this isn't a highly sought after stone because of the color, but that's what I love about it. The pale color and the gorgeous step cut. LD has made my dream come true!! Where's the superhero emoticon????

This is so awesome :) Beautiful ring! Cheers to LD!

OH Yenny, it's beautiful and perfect  I am so glad this worked out well for your :appl:

Hi Chrono,

Thanks you so much for taking the time to explain things to me point by point. It will not be a ring I wear everyday, so I'm OK with it needing to be babied.

I have not purchased the stone, so I haven't seen it in person. I can't say if I'll be ok that it doesn't sparkle much.

I had no idea that the "A" rating was somewhat subjective...that's good to know.

I really like this color stone...is there another type of stone I should be looking at that may meet my criteria? I am also in love with green tsavorite, but it looks like I'll need between $2-3K to get one in the size I need.

Hi.

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents. When I first started collecting gems, someone told me that whats important in a gem isnt necessarily the best color or saturation from the perspective of the gem books and experts, whats important is whether YOU like the color of a certain stone or not. So it's all subjective.

However, it can be said that certain colors and color saturations are more valuable than others, and that a stone that is either too dark or too light is worth less than a stone that isnt too dark or too light. From THAT perspective, I think the stone is overpriced...

Another issue with that stone is that the cutting isnt very even, and at least one major line is crooked. Assuming that is the stone you're thinking of buying in your OP picture.

If it was me, I wouldnt pay that much for that stone. You can search around Ebay and find a Tourmaline of that color and size for a LOT less. That stone would normally go for as little as $10 or as high as maybe $40 on Ebay. Thats due to the lack of overall color saturation and uneven cutting.

But I'll go back to what I started this post with, and say once again that it's YOUR opinion thats important. I bought a parcel of five or six, 1.7ct - 2ct Spinels as one of the first purchases in my collection. But those stones were very lightly colored. They had very light saturation, almost as light as the tourmaline. They are very clean though. The cutting is OK. I paid like $35 for that parcel, and later I moved it out of my main collection, but when I showed them to a few people, they really liked them! I have much nicer, better colored stones, but these 2 girls really liked the light spinels better than the medium to dark colored stones...

If that tourmaline is about 9.5mm x 8mm x 6mm or so, I'd guess that it weighs around 3.5 - 4cts.(give or take 1/2ct)

^^****NOTE: Obviously I should have read on a little farther, and I wouldve seen that this subject(Tourmaline) has been already dealt with.
