How did it turn out?
As you can see from my essay, complications arose. My Tiffany store sent the earring back to NY Tiffany. They evaluated it stating that while they will replace the stone for free, the labor would be $275. I told them that the sale associate in my state said it would be free of charge. Furthermore, if they had used the right quality diamond in the first place, there would be no labor. We went back and forth, eventually, I asked them to send the earring back - unfixed. They did.
Shortly after, Tiffany sent me a survey via email, I filled it out (which I never do) spilling all my frustration out. Who reads these anyway? Apparently, they did, lol. I got a call back from a manager (from the store in my state) who stated that the reason why they wanted to charge me was because the diamond "is of a better quality." I asked, "How so? It must be the same size or it will not fit into the prongs and same color or it will not match the other petals." She was quiet. Then she offered to waive the fee due to "misunderstanding and miscommunication." She was nice and professional but a bit confused. So I hesitantly agreed.
I do need them for an early February event so I have not sent them back yet. Truthfully, I am hesitant to do so knowing first and second hand how sloppy their after sale service can be. I worry that they will damage the hallmark that is on the post or that the prong will not be even while "fixing it." So I am still thinking about it. I do not want them to fix one thing only to end up with something else being wrong.
This item is too costly for customers to go through all this. I wish Tiffany did not rely on "we are the best, no one will question our perfect diamonds" and made sure they live up to their name by providing quality products in the first place.
I made a peace with fluorescence but the fact that the stone does not reflect the light as much as others, bothers me. I tested it out a few times and was able to pick out the affected stone each time. I am usually not this difficult by any means but given the earrings' current price tag of $28,000, I might need to be.
