Many of you are using very bad spelling (ha ha - coming from me - the worst in the world!!!)

The word is Fluorescence and the abbrieviation has the U before the O - fluoro - that's the word.

So SKR - let us know what you gunna do!!!
Gosh Garry you're right, I haven't mispelled it in this thread, but know I have in others. I am going to write it down on a flash card and put it next to my computer. Oh and while I'm at it isn't it :
let us know what you're gonna do?? Not up on Aussie lingo I guess!!

also, just have to add/excuse myself... I''m actually a decent speller and when I''m on my desktop you can tell but when I''m laying on the couch with my laptop it''s typocity and I''m just too lazy to fix them all LOL Now, it would be a lie if I attempted to blame "flour" on typos ::wince:: cause it''s really just pure ignorance! lol

One red curry duck and a serve of flour please

Hey, maybe we should add another word or two to our diamond dictionary, flouro or flour, for something the majority of us seem to like and FLUORESCENCE for the scary thing that the diamond "experts" want us to stay away from! Just a thought

Can anyone change my spelling in the thread's title (hangs head in shame.....)

, Don''t mind Garry SKR, he suppose to be more immune to misspells by now after 6 years of our friendship which unfortunately did not result in improving my spelling but rather diminishing his. Normal Garry...

DEF with blue fluoro were once called Blue White - and they were the beez kneez of all diamonds untill bad operators started calling all fuloro diamond blue white. It was then that the US Govt banned the term and things went downhill for poor old fluoro.

People are wierd.

Normal - that is an in joke - I picked up this term from my dear friends - and i cant help using it - it is driving Drena and my staff mad - along with "common sense is not common"

But dearest Moderator - it is I who can not spell - and you who with many other languauges just dont notice it

I personally love fluor... it was actually a requirement for my fiance and I when we were picking my engagement stone. I have a G AGS000 with medium blue fluor, and I love it.

I know I am late to this... but...

My F is med blue - and I prefer it! I absolutely LOVE fluorescence in diamonds. I do not know why people are educated otherwise. I have seen a ton of med / strong fluor diamonds - and only a couple were milky.

Ohhh, congrats on the stone!
I have a D with strong blue....they are insanely gorgeous!

Garry - I continue to hear the term blue white in certain parts of the world. Still highly regarded by many in Asia as per my understanding.

I think it comes down to a matter of individual taste. My E-ring is an E. I''m glad it isn''t fluorescent, because I know it hasn''t been upgraded! If I bought a D, I would be wary of paying that premium for a fluorescing stone. Then again, sometimes the price is dropped because of fluorescence, which could make it a good deal.

But I am still intrigued by the idea of fluorescence. I have an G OEC with strong blue fluorescence. Not a trace of cloudy or oiliness, but in sunlight it is unmistakably blue-white. In subdued light it often has a sweet bright white shimmer compared to my E-ring that is lovely. Side by side, most people think the G OEC is whiter than the E. Outdoors, things change. When I look at my E-ring next to the OEC in bright sun, the E-ring looks whiter (well, it IS whiter, since it isn''t blue). For a ring I wear day in and day out, I like having the constant brilliant white stone that doesn''t fluoresce. For the ring I wear now and then, I love the optical tricks.

If I were a guy getting my girl a ring, I think I would steer clear of strong fluorescence, because I suspect more women will prefer no fluorescence. Or at least let her see the stone before and decide for herself. And it isn''t the cloudiness or oiliness I would be afraid of, since we know that is rare, but that weird sunlight blue glow thing. Here on this forum we have diamond aficionados, who look for the cool and unusual, and might not represent the mainstream!

Medium blue fluorescence..well, that might be a good compromise. If it doesn''t have a pronounced blue colour in daylight, but just looks whiter and brighter, that would be lovely!

Funny story: when I got engaged, my mother saw my ring and said in a disappointed voice, "There aren't any major flashes of blue. That means it's not a top top top quality diamond..."

Hers has med. blue fluorescence and she thought that blue meant higher quality! Don't get me wrong... I love blue fluor but mine has absolutely none. Sometimes I wish that mine did because I've been "trained" to love the blue!

Frankly though, I don't think most people would notice fluor or absence thereof.
