would you buy a diamond with a chip?

If a chip on old cuts that is really small and cannot view w/ naked eyes and it's great deal, I would get it. It's very pretty! Congrats on scoring a great deal.

If you can take a very good close up of the top and bottom of the chip, we can tell you a lot more. Right now, we don't even know the size of the chip. Some tiny chips are quick fixes and don't even lose .01ct to fix. Generally speaking a chip is minor, but you might not be getting the real scoop on how damaged the diamond is now. Short of a good set of photos, seek out a professional adviser to look at it.

I know this is an old thread but I have an old mine cut with minor facet abrasions and one on the table only visible with 10x magnification but it’s got sentimental value. Is repolishing typically fairly straightforward. It is likely to look visually smaller.

Thank you. Your comments are really helpful

A fair proportion of old cuts have naturals on the girdles.
Part of the original rough.
Often 4 - one on NSE and W.
This was considered a sign of excellent cutting by maximizing the rough.
So:
is it a chip or a natural?

It’s not a natural. It’s abrasions on the facet junctions and on tiny nick.

If you tape your loupe onto the camer phone lens you can send a decent photo.
Fiddly but doable

I’m not at work at the moment. It’s really just mildly abraded facet junctions and on or 2 teeeeeny nicks with no visible depth under 10x. I just want it repolishing to restore it as it has special sentimental value and I want it restoring. Long story. I sent some photos many months ago (not on my phone anymore) to a jeweller and they confirmed what I stated but weren’t particularly helpful

Thanks again
