I have about 2 hours to decide whether or not to buy a used once dress I saw on ebay. I have been emailing the girl back and forth and the dress is in perfect condition, she is my body double, it''s by my fav designer for less than 1/2 off. I wouldn''t even have to alter it. Should I go for it? Or is this completely tacky? Help!

I don''t see this as tacky at all--if the dress is in perfect condition, and there is some kind of gaurentee she can give you (IE you can return if it''s not) then I say go for it. Dresses are expensive, so it''d be smart. I can''t say I''d have enough confidence in someone else to do this, but if you do then definately go for it!

no, it''s not tacky. but you do want to be sure this is a good deal. that you are getting what you are paying for- not a scam. you also have to be getting what you want. would you buy this dress brand new if it was in your price range? i would say make sure you love it! make sure you cross all the t''s and dot all the i''s as far as ebay and the buyer goes.

Some PSers have bought their dresses on ebay-- and with great luck.
Just know what you''re getting!
I would have bought mine used if I could have found it.

Why would it be tacky? Your favorite designer, your size... minimal alterations. Low price. If it''s in good shape and your comfortable with the seller go for it. There is nothing wrong with wearing a used gown. At all.

We have been emailing each other back and forth so much I must be driving her crazy! Plus she even gave me her phone number to call her if I have any other questions and the picture she has in the listing is of her self on her wedding day. She told me that if I win the dress she will send me more pictures of the wedding and bridal party. Watch after all of this, I probably won''t even end up winning it! Ha!

Sadie, I bought my dress on eBay & had great luck with it. It was my #1 choice dress which had been bought & altered by my near body double, then she bought a different dress to wear at her wedding & needed to unload this one. (It was altered, but unworn.) I was a nervous wreck until it came in (there''s a PS thread to prove it!) & emailed the seller numerous times. It all worked out well for me, though.

Good luck to you! Sounds like it might be a great deal, especially if the seller has provided you with lots of info & good feedback. Let us know what you decide!

we were getting married. My sister called me and said my friend is your size and is selling her dress. I bought it for 250. Dry cleaning, minor mending and lifted at the shoulders and we were ready to go.

after the wedding i sold it for $250. I heard the dress made its way around UT health Science center.

I don''t see anything wrong with it.

To be honest, we''ve thought about selling my wife''s dress. I mean, sure, it''s tradition to keep it stored. However, what good is that really? If we have a daughter, I''m not sure she''s going to want to wear her mom''s old dress. Might not be her style. So, it''s currently sitting in a cardboard box. Not doing much good there. If someone else can enjoy it and we can recoup some of the money, maybe that''s not such a bad idea.

We tried to get a used dress off eBay before our wedding too but couldn''t find the right style/size. Came close, but didn''t wanna risk my wife trying to lose a dress size before the wedding. Too much pressure. If you''re lucky enough to have found one with minimal alterations, congrats! Just be wary of scams.

Sounds good to me. As long as it''s guarenteed authentic - and the ebayer has good feedback - I''d go for it. I don''t think it''s tacky at all, it''s frugal and smart.

Scintillating...

Hi Sadie,

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a used designer dress! I would have no problem with that.

HOWEVER, I bought a designer jacket off Ebay last year. It was in reasonable condition (you can never really tell from a photo) but it had a really weird smell to it. Can''t tell you what the smell was, but it was horrible, and hence, the jacket went to the charity shop.

So although you are getting a designer dress for a fraction of the price, you are still going to be paying serious money for it. I would ask the seller if she would accept the item back, if it wasn''t what you expected.

I hope this helps... Blod

Did you get it, sadie?

If I loved it I would.

So did you win it????

So I got the dress! Yay! The girl is so nice, I have her phone number and she''s going to send me pictures of her wedding. I''m really excited, the dress is a Maggie Sottero, who is my fav designer. I can''t wait to see it. And I can''t believe that I have a dress already and my wedding isn''t until next September!

yay! I cannot wait to see pictures of you in it! It must be beautiful!

Yay! THat is great. I think if you can get exactly what you want, then it doesn''t matter how you came about finding it: bloomingdales, e-bay, your cousin''s closet, whatever. I am sure it is lovely!

Sadie, congrats on the dress!!! How lucky to find your dream dress for a reasonable cost and purchase it from somebody pleasant online. I think you made a great decision!!

As for dresses just sitting around in the box, our cousin recently adopted a baby girl, and had her wedding dress cut and sewn into a gorgeous christening gown. It was such a lovely, sentimental idea for re-using the wedding dress, and the christening gown turned out just gorgeous. Just an idea for anyone out there with an old dress laying around!

WHICH Maggie Sottero?
I LOVE Maggie Sottero.
My dress was Ophelia.

I think I may be too late, but I would totally do buy a used dress. If my future SIL''s dress would fit me (she''s so freakin'' small) I would wear it in a heart beat.

yay I think you did the right thing. I would absolutely get a used dress if it was in good condition. All the money you can save and put towards another part of the wedding

Ooh, how exciting, Sadie! Congrats! My eBay dress was a Maggie too. Which Maggie is your dress? Could you post some pics of it here?

You know what? I forgot to ask her that! It''s strapless, A-line and has beads and crystals on the bodice, down the side, and on the train. What really made me fall in love with this particular dress is that the crystals are ice blue and amethyst. I love classic looks with some just a little different about them and blue and purple are my favorite colors. I''ll try to post pics when it comes in, which should be next week.

That sounds beautiful & will cover your "something blue." Had you already tried on this dress in a bridal salon? Can''t wait to see pics! (Maybe you could post some of the ones the girl sent you--you could crop out her head so we just saw the dress...

) So exciting! I remember what a crazy rush I got when I won my dress. How long until you receive it?

Probably next week sometime. I have to have it sent to my house, I hope he doesn''t see it! I have to figure out how to get him out of the house too so I can try it on...maybe I''ll ask a friend if I can keep it at her house

My friend wore this dress to her wedding and it was just GORGEOUS!!!! I''m sure you''ll love it, and what a bargain to find it in your size, used!!!!
