Would you consider any of these diamonds? HCA above 2

Hi, I was looking at these stones and was wondering if I should not consider them since the HCA scores are above 2. I was only able to get a copy of the GIA certificate with picture for the 2nd diamond. Thanks in advance.

Hi slycatty

Can you post all the info from the reports or that you used for the HCA for the other two diamonds please? The second stone might be ok but no way to tell without an image, also I would want an independant expert to evaluate this diamond due to the grade setting clouds noted on the clarity plot for SI2 clarity. Clouds in this grade which set the grade can sometimes interfere with performance.

1 looks most promising but depends on the averaging and which direction the rounding comes from. I would not buy any without an idealscope image as a confirmation.

I would be most interested in the second but I wouldn't choose it without an Idealscope image.

Ask for a idealscope image. I have a beautiful 1.78 GIA stone cut grade excellent and it scored 2.5. Best way is to see in person and get a scope if u can''t see in person def get the scope most vendors supply it. If the scopes come back good your fine with a 2.5 score.

Not necessarily if the stone is tightly cut, has top symmetry and supporting images, these are usually diamonds which score between 2 and 3, but as always images are needed to evaluate.
 
Since we are on the topic here what does a tightly cut stone mean Lorelei. Since u loved mine and it scored a 2.5 on the HCA but had beautiful idealscope images. Is mine a example of being cut tightly just curious? See below.

Tightly cut means the Idealscope image turn up fine which your did.

By loosely cut we mean that there is significant variation in angles from the average numbers given by GIA such that the resulting facet pattern display leakage in the idealscope image.

Hi Nic!

I would be glad to explain further. When we say " tightly cut" this basically means that the overall cutting precision is good with little variance between angle measurements, no wide swings away from the average measurements. This can be exacerbated with forced rounding issues such as GIA's methods, particularly with borderline crown and pavilion angle combos. Of course the best way to judge overall cutting precision is with images in order to see if there is any light leakage and to judge the light return, also scanner measurements such as Sarin/ Helium can show if there is variation between the various facets.

Looks ok, maybe some slight leakage in the IS image but that could be due to the tilt of the stone when the image is taken.

I think this is the case that the IS was slightly tilted when taking the image, check with Judah or Barry concerning this.
