Sorry for the thread jack! I am still keeping an eye out for you but so far no luck.

No problem at all and thanks for remembering me!!

Inken at Enhoerning Jewelry offered me a 1.31 L I1. I said yes and then she said there was a mixup and the diamond had become unavailable and another jeweler had it for review. She said that it could be as long as two weeks before it’s available again... if it becomes available again. I do not fault her though because if I had responded sooner then it wouldn’t have happened. Also she offered me this same diamond back in August.

8.4mm x 6mm x 2.68mm. Too shallow, right?

I just saw that it’s sold.

Whether I pay in installments or all at once, I am just not sure I’m comfortable spending that much on a diamond, if that makes sense.

Ive DM’ed probably 15 vendors over the last several months, 9 of them just in the last week. I even emailed Inken and asked her if she can ask Randy Poli if he has anything.

I hope I don’t come across as difficult by saying this, but premier gemstones has posted several old cut pears lately and none of them have the look I’m going for.

Is my budget not big enough hoping for a carat with less than 4K? Even if I am really flexible with color and clarity? I had one vendor message me back basically saying it’s not doable.
If it’s not, I already have a .44 old cut pear. I’ve had it several years and not set it for being too small. I could set that diamond instead.

I’m not an expert but to me 4K seems a good budget for a stone under 1ct. Sometimes with old cuts it just takes a little patience. The right one will come! When you say “ not what you’re looking for” what about them is not what you want, and/or what are you looking for in the pear? Maybe talk to Adam at OWD?

I think there are a couple things at play here.

1. Covid has shrunk supply that normally is flowing between the US and Europe. I have talked to some vendors about this.

2. We just got off Christmas and Valentine's Day, where you see lots of engagements. Couple that with limited supply as noted in 1.

3. Antique pears have always been something that have not been plentiful. Not as scarce as an oval or peruzzi, etc., but never abundant in supply. Much easier to find an OEC or a circular brillant.

4. It takes time to find the right one. Have you talked to Old World Diamonds? Adam doesn't post all he has, but he can source.

5. Because of the scarcity noted above, and lack of movement between US and Europe for "new" stock, prices are tighter probably. Plus, as supply diminishes which I think it is for antique pears, they'll stay that way.

6. I think the budget, for right now, is probably on the low side for the look you want. I agree, some of the stones from Premier were more triangular, but a good setting, as long as not prong set, can fix that. My own antique pear, which is estimated to be from the Georgian time period by the vendor, looks like a lopsided egg unset. Settings can help, but not if you just plan to prong set.

Above budget, but looks pretty, in an antique style:

1.14ct G SI1 Pear Diamond

This is a lovely 1.14ct G SI1 Pear Shape Diamond. The diamond is cut with a vintage vibe to it so it has lots of fire and sparkle.

I looked at Blue Nile and Rare Carat to see if they had an antique style stones in your budget in a pear. They don't that I can see. Blue Nile had a few pears with a culet, but no videos/photos. You can do a search there and maybe ask about getting video/photo. It looked the images were stock images.

I searched Ebay for you. I found a handful of 1940's and 50's rings, but not with a culet and chunky faceting.

Final takeaway- it really depends on how much you want this. In the grand scheme of things, $1400 extra dollars (though that stone is now sold) is not a gigantic difference as compared to the original budget. I don't say that to be flippant, but sometimes, if you really want something, a bit more saving is needed to get there, but it is a question of how much you really want it.

That stone loose is not the super chubby pear we think of. It's a little triangular to my eye, as it moves up.

Look at that stone in the setting though. World of difference.

Thank you all for your replies. I just sent Mollie Francine a comment. What I dislike about Premier’s pears and the 1.14 DBL pear is the facet pattern, not the shape. I want big bold facets and a large open culet.
I bought an old cut pear from Adam back in September. He said it was eye clean and it wasn’t. It had the facet pattern I love, but I laid it next to my little .44 old cut pear and it didn’t have much life in it compared to my diamond.



I returned it and asked Adam to let me know what else he had. I sent him a DM again yesterday. He didn’t reply.

I’ve looked on eBay and the ones on there are windowed and glassy.

I have heard back from a vendor on Instagram today—Jillian Abboud. She asked for my budget and offered me a 1.02 ct J VS2. It looks nice; we’ll see what happens next.

ETA: both pictures are a stone from Adam. You can see a large black inclusion toward the bottom, like at 6:00. Especially in the bottom picture, can you tell it looks a bit dead? I didn’t notice until I compared it to my own diamond, but it was very apparent afterward. Ironically the little loose .44 pear of mine came from a PSer who bought it from Adam.

It's been on my watch list for a while, I know I wasn't searching for it specifically so I must've come across it by chance and saved it because it's pretty (like most of my watch list lol). It's probably worth an ask for more pics!
