Okay, I've been coveting one of the tiffany diamond by the yard necklaces. But at that price it's out of my reach and if I was going to spend that much money, I'd like more ct weight for the price.

I found one similarly styled .25 ct total 14k for $360 (and 10% additional off) at Bloomingdales
http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/diamond-station-necklace-in-14-kt.-white-gold-0.25-ct.-t.w.?ID=448322&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

Supposedly $900-$1000 originally.

So is it worth it for about $324? For $300-$400 could I get something nicer elsewhere. I don't really want to put a lot into it since I don't really "need" it. I already have a .75 diamond solitaire pendant (standard basket/bail setting) that I love (it's not the greatest quality but I love it anyway) and a tiffany diamond key replica so I really don't "need" any more necklaces but find I'm kind of craving a layering necklace.

So for a sparse budget, $300-$400 (for just a small fun item), would you get this diamond by the yard necklace or something else? Why/why not? If not, what would you recommend? (I'm thinking also about vintage items as an alternative.)

I'd pass. The flipping on DBTY would annoy me enough, but this doesn't have diamonds spaced evenly going all the way around, so it may look "crooked" more easily.

You just can't ever look at the "original" price on dept. store jewelry. This would not be worth more than the $324. But if I were you, I'd wait and get one with a little more to it. I am going to show you some ebay dby necklaces, but keep in mind they sell for LESS than the price listed because they are best offer. They have 10 stones. You can check and see the sold items to see how much different weights actually sold for.

I'd wait and save and get one with more than 5 stones and more than .30 cts.

Thanks so much! Off to look!

Hi,

I have a number of DBTY necklaces. I wouldn't buy this necklace but that's because I'm a seriously enthusiastic consumer of jewellery and I tend to spend $1000+ in order to get best-quality. I then treat my jewellery purchases as if they were my first-borns!

However, if you are not quite so into jewellery as this, and you just want a "fun" item for not much more than $300, then go for it! It's Bloomies, so I'm sure the quality won't be dire, and you can always return it.

The spacing wouldn't bother me because all pendants and necklaces will move a bit - you just have to tug them back into place every so often.

Just one caveat: be aware that at 0.05 points each, these diamonds will be super-small - much smaller than they look in the picture. But for that price, maybe that's OK with you. It's still a diamond necklace from Bloomie's.

Speaking for myself, I would save up and get a DBTY that I will be proud of for the rest of my life. I recently did just that and got an amazing-quality one from Brian Gavin Diamonds, 0.50ct, best-quality signature melee diamonds, which cost $1,450 and which I'll still be wearing when I'm 80.

However, it sounds as if you are not so invested in jewellery and don't want to spend that amount. In which case, the Bloomie's necklace is probably the right decision.

If you think there's a chance that you might want to upgrade to a fab-quality DBTY in the future, I'd save this money and start a DBTY fund!

On this forum, we are all absolutely nuts over jewellery and everything has to be the highest quality possible, within our personal budgets. But most people are nothing like this fussy over jewellery, or ever want to spend that much money on it. Most people I know don't wear what I personally would consider to be good jewellery, but they love it and would never spend any more to get what I would consider to be a good piece. But be aware that when we say we wouldn't buy it, we are probably the fussiest, most diamond-discerning people you could have asked!

So what I'm saying is, just because none of us crazy jewellery nuts would buy this necklace, doesn't mean it isn't the right decision for YOU! If you're not that fussy and don't believe in spending lots of money on jewellery, then this might be just the thing for you.
