Hi
Hope you can help guide me in picking the right diamond
I have an option of a yellow (y-z) 3 carat stone that the seller states will look fancy yellow once set or a 2 carat fancy yellow but with medium fluorescence
Approx the same price and not sure what to choose
Please help!
Thanks in advance 574DA15D-EA10-4981-B2F4-D5699FD2BBA7.jpeg6F6093EA-BCA1-47B9-90D5-B290917E10B9.jpeg354CD9FF-B3BD-4FD9-8667-29FFC65E3530.jpeg1DD8FBD9-18F1-4167-B843-D4F78BECE78B.jpeg

That oval is stunning I’d pick that

Oval looks great. The rectangular cushion looks very mushy and unappealing

I like the oval a lot more.

The oval is beautiful!

Is the fluorescence a concern?

WIth the fluorescence, I believe blue is less favorable for a fancy yellow because it may reduce the yellow tint a little when activated. I'd imagine at medium blue though it won't be much of an issue and will still be more yellow than the radiant y-z. However, if it was yellow fluorescence though it would be great for a yellow diamond.

I'm always game for a radiant, especially an "alphabet yellow" however that is not my favorite one so given these two choices I'd pick the oval. But I think there are better y-z radiants out there and they bring a lot of value for the $

Is the fluorescence a concern?

Yes. Fancy yellow diamonds with blue fluorescence trade at substantial discounts over stones with no fluorescence.
It’s not possible to know if there’s an issue with a blue stone unless you can view it under multiple lighting scenarios.
In my opinion, the seller should be advising you on this.
The fluorescent stone might be fine in terms of appearance, but as a buyer it’s important to understand why a stone is discounted

I don’t even think there should be a debate
Oval is leaps better!
And finding a well cut oval seems hard enough…but a fancy colored one that is so lovely? It’s a nice find

I think it depends on how much you value the resale value of the stone.

Appearance wise, the oval is a prettier stone, and the size isn’t too different from the radiant; so, as long as the MBF doesn’t impact the look of the stone (you may need to assess the stone in sunlight), that’s the one I would pick.

From a resale perspective, fancy yellow would be more valuable than alphabet yellow, but the fluorescence will bring down the resale price; and the alphabet yellow is a carat bigger. So it may not be as “good” of a deal if the fancy yellow won’t hold value well.

I think if you can get an alphabet yellow that is more attractive to the eye than the radiant, it might be a good choice. From a purely looks POV in those pictures I prefer the oval (though the alphabet yellow radiant is really quite yellow!)

What nobody seems to be observing is that these are two radically different shapes, so it seems odd that you are choosing between these specific two. The oval looks better in color and cut as others have stated, but do you want an oval shape over a radiant shape anyway? What is your vision for the piece (whether it be a ring/pendant etc)?

I prefer the oval. But definitely find out about the fluorescence in different lights. I have a little fancy green yellow (not the avatar picture) that has strong blue fluor., and it makes it look kind of minty green in the sun, so its not always a bad thing.

Hi
I’m looking to make a simple everyday ring with a white halo around the stone and small diamonds on the side of the ring

I honestly love the cushion shape, but I feel that the size for the same carat weight is small, not getting the best ‘big’ look for my money, that’s why I looked at other shapes and the seller had these available

It could very well be that you are attached to using a particular local seller.....
But now that you're here...shopping online will offer you far more choices. We're living in a world where the buyer's desire is far more important than whatever stones the seller can get their hands on.....

thanks for your replies
Can I get your feedback regarding this stone please
Thanks in advance
It’s costing more but if it is worth it then it’s ok
My concern is that it will look small, the others are bigger

I like this one a lot. Set that in a cup and it's going to look fancy vivid. Wowza.

Actually this is an online seller, but I feel he has good prices
I saw diamonds by Lauren being recommended here, but they can only ship to me items for a max of 5000 USD (over wouldn’t be covered by insurance I think)
So I’m looking for other options
Please feel free to recommend any reputable jewelers
Thanks in advance

Hi,
First, my apologies if the following was not communicated properly by us!

I assume we're speaking of international shipping.

We use a UPS owned company that specializes in high-value Jewelry shipping. This company is very popular within the jewelry industry. I'm sure that the insurance limitations are similar for the vast majority of companies shipping diamonds and jewelry.
In general, companies shipping can readily obtain "normal" jewelry insurance ( max of $50k) to the more commonly shipped to countries. These include ( but not limited to) Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, China, Curacao, Gibraltar, Jamaica ( Ya mon)..etc
There are counties that have lower published max values. United Arab Emirates, for example, has a $5000 limit. Thailand is $10k max
Unfortunately, there are certain countries where it's not possible to purchase more than $100 insurance on high value shipments.
Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Madagascar, Indonesia, India, Turkey. It's interesting how the numbers play out geographically.

Speaking on behalf of Diamonds by Lauren specifically ( and likely this goes for the majority of US shippers)- in cases where there is a limit greater than $100, it's possible to obtain additional insurance. For example, a country with a $5000 limit can likely get approved for $7500 on a case by case basis.

Thanks for the explanation, will look at the site and Instagram again

Update: This is sold
So not an option

With the caveat that I have no knowledge of your budget and that you seem to not be in the US, Leibish has this somewhat interesting 4ct honker - faces up smaller but priced about the same it seems.

The oval is spectacular!

Yes I’m not in the USA so will need international shipping

my budget is around $12000

I have found another option.. would welcome any feedback
This is costing 4500 per carat
The oval is 4300 per carat
Thanks in advance

The Oval brilliant speaks to me, not so much the radiant.

Oval, all day long. Ovals are pleasing shapes that never really go totally out of fashion if you ever want to sell. Also, the crushed ice pattern on that radiant just isn’t pleasing to my eye. Opinion of one, but I can’t see any obvious symmetry in the facet pattern. I’m sure it’s there but you don’t want to have to use a loupe to see it.

If you haven’t lived with a crushed ice stone before maybe buy a cheap CZ piece and live with it for a wee bit. Some folks love the look and others find their eye ball slowly starting to twitch after looking down at at the stone on their finger for a few days…Crushed ice can too easily verge into hot mess If you’re at all one of those people. Full disclosure, I’m one of those people.
