I am looking for a yellow diamond/yellow gold halo for a white diamond. I found a picture (posted below) of one in this thread:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-me-find-yellow-gold-pave-settings-please.32685/

The thread (from 2005) said this setting is made by Ritani, but I don't think they make it anymore. Does anyone know of a stock setting with a yellow diamond halo like this? I would prefer a plain white metal shank, but mostly want to see how a yellow diamond halo looks like in person next to a white diamond. I want to see in person before having it made custom, sight unseen.

I know DBL has a ton of halos, and they do specialise in coloured diamonds, I couldn't find any white diamonds in yellow halos on their site though

Thanks, Yssie. I love that last one! I was looking on DBL too, and was surprised to only find pink halos.

I think I might request to have this moved to the CS forum.

Another PS'er has just had her white diamond halo'ed with the most yummy very yellow YG halo and it actually enhances her diamond and makes it even whiter!!  I'll see if I can persuade her to start a thread on it.

I must add that usually I don't like YG so obviously her new ring has made such a huge and favourable impression on me.

Phoenix, that would be great! Where did she get her halo, and is she happy? I am also not a YG fan, but I have a YG wedding band to which I need to match.

The half carat diamond was my original ering stone, and I reset it in a WF Champagne setting. After a year with it, I still don't like it (in my avatar) and am contemplating the yellow halo. I want to keep the stone (not upgrade), and I don't want to make another setting mistake. This time, I am going to go see whatever ring I decide on in person before forging ahead. The other option is a graduated 5 stone ring with the diamond in the center. I am going to explore both options fully before making a decision.

I love the look and I don't know of anyone who carries one.

I do think you would need to have a purposeful color difference. So, I would not do a J colored center stone with a fancy yellow halo because I don't think there would be enough contrast. You may want to work with some combinations to see what would work for you. I also imagine that because diamonds reflect what is around them, so you may see some yellow flashes within the center diamond.

DBL makes halos in all colors, even orange brown melee, they do a lot more than what is posted on the site. I would def contact David!

Just re-read your post. I see you want a yellow diamond/yellow gold halo. Woops...guess my selections aren't much help.

Thank you, hmr_mama. Your original post was actually correct! I have a white diamond I would like to put in a yellow diamond halo with yellow gold :)

Thanks, SweetAsscher. I saw that too! JbEG has nice things.

Thanks, mrssalvo. I contacted Julian about that, and he said he would ask his bench. He recently got back to me that it was not an option.

I think I am going to have to go semi-custom. I am willing to go to NYC (to DBL) or elswhere to try on a similar ring because I've already had 1 bad experience doing semi-custom work.

I actually LOVE your current ring!!!!!!! You haven't had it for 6 months yet, right? It really struck me as special when you posted it back in July. I guess you really like platinum, but want to wear your 18K wb, is that still the issue?

Thanks, Motownmama. I've had it for over a year, and it's never grown on me. The setting itself is very pretty, but it's too modern for my taste to wear everyday. I am going to try to sell it on DB when I reset my diamond (size 4.25, can be resized at least half a size by WF). If it doesn't sell, I will probably put in a colored stone and wear it on occasion.

I have a yellow gold band that I want to wear with my diamond, so I am looking for a 2 tone setting. I prefer WG over YG.

I saw your dilemma with your knuckle, and posted in your thread that your eternity band can probably be resized by someone with a laser welder.

I think you've finally hit upon a really great solution to the question that you've been asking yourself about the ring.

At least to my eyes, this new direction seems perfect from a matched set kind of aesthetic, as well as a visual aesthetic.

I personally love platinum, and would never choose YG. However, I can imagine being really attracted to a white gold setting with a yellow halo!

oh, and I hope you get to keep your current setting. A deep blue sapphire would look ace in it.

Best of luck, of course! I think you will be able to sell your setting; it's just gorgeous! Altho I'm far from matchy matchy, I think it would look fabulous with the matching wedding band. Hopefully someone will pick it up, so you can move ahead with your project!!

Thanks, Tristan. I am going to take my time and try on a lot of rings before going for it.

Okay, so I Photoshopped the cushion halo setting from BGD to have a YG diamond halo, and a WG plain shank. I am planning to wear this with a plain YG wedding band most of the time. I have have a WG eternity ring with milgrain, which I might couple it with when I want more bling:

What do you guys think? Is it okay to have milgrain on the halo, but not the shank? I tend to like milgrain, but my wedding band is plain.

I think what matters is what you think. Does it make you smile in anticipation? Grin at your own brilliance? It should... before you do it...

I personally prefer it without the milgrain. I prefer a cleaner divide between the diamond and the halo.

I LOVE that, preg!!

What colour will the metal bezeling the centerstone be? I'm thinking plain white metal, no milgrain here and milgrain on the outer yellow cushion outline might be a nice compromise..

Tristan, I love your post. You're right that a design should make you smile. The YG yellow diamond halo part makes me grin at my own brilliance, but the milgrain gives me pause.

I could also do this entirely without milgrain, with a standard prong set halo on a plain shank. It looks more elegant, I think, but I am wondering if it is too plain. Then again, plain probably means I will not get tired of it. Thinking, thinking...I think that the milgrain makes the YG richer.

Thanks, Yssie. The BGD milgrain setting was Photoshopped for a YG to be used in the bezel, but here is version with a WG, plain bezel. Thank you for the suggestion. I love getting feedback from you guys. (I wish I had done this when I did my previous reset. I was so inexperienced and naive. I am still so, but a little less.)

I like how the plain bezel marries the halo better with the shank, but am wondering if the YG for the halo and milgrain will look odd. I wish I could see these things in person because I think it would much easier to discern. Then again, this isn't exactly the most important thing in the world.

I do like this one better - the plain bezel fits with the plain shank and ties it all together better to my eyes.

Thanks, Yssie. I was just editing my post to say the same. Do you like the BGD concept better overall than the plain pronged halo I pasted above? I am leaning towards the BGD more. Again, I wish I could see these things in person.

I lean toward the BGD type as I think it's more unique, but I think the more important consideration is who you're thinking of to make it - I do think plain micropave halos benefit from master handcrafting and I think the difference in make and finish between handmade and cast is pretty clear in-person once you know what to look for, so if you're planning to have it cast I'd pick the BGD with the sturdier, bolder look to begin with as lack of delicacy has less visual impact

Thanks, Yssie, that's a very good point. I am looking for something more bold, both visually and physically because my wedding band is a plain, half-dome ~2.5 mm 14K YG band. I want the ering to be the star, and not look like it is the weaker of the 2 rings.

If I did the BGD design, I think it would look okay with a 2 mm plain half-dome WG shank. I would send BGD my wedding band to match the profile (proportionally) of my 2.5 mm YG wedding band.

I like delicate prong-set halos with 2 mm pave shanks. I think halos with plain shanks can look nice also, but I prefer those halos to be heavier--bezel set, fishtail pave, or anything to increase the amount of metal in the halo without it looking poorly made.

Here is the BGD with a YG halo, but the bezel in milgrained WG:

BGD_5671W18-1_yellowhalo_wgbezel.jpg

Ah - okay, perfection! The milgrain on the white metal is just the perfect compromise

If you like bold I think this is definitely the better design choice - the dainty, delicate micropave halos are anything but bold physically or visually!
