Hi there! I need some advice/ photo examples if anyone can share. I have a platinum eternity band and am considering a yellow gold engagement ring for my 3.2 ct. round brilliant diamond. Im thinking yellow gold with sidestones going 3/4 around the band with a platinum prong head. Does anyone have any pictures of combinations similar to these? I would love to see some real life examples? Here is my wedding band for reference. Thank you in advance!!

I don’t have any pictures to share but that sounds beautiful! I adore two-tone looks. Also, you have a lovely hand - you could be a hand model!

I love mixing metals so reckon go for it!

Thanks for the input thus far! I went to the jewelry store today and found these Tacori settings to stack. So now I have an idea of what the yellow gold will look like w my wedding band and on my hand (mine will have the 3.2 center stone and I’d do platinum prongs).

What do you guys think? I’ll also include a few images at the end showing all platinum as the alternative (band and e-ring setting). I’m really torn and not sure what I like better. Which do you prefer? I’d only wear a stack of 3 w/ the yellow gold to balance it out. Platinum I’d just wear the e-ring and wedding band. Thanks for your opinions!!

Hi Mlh, it is a 1.8 ct shared prong “u” style eternity band in platinum. The diamonds are 8 pointers. I wear a size 5. The diamonds are H/I color.

So beautiful!! Thank you.

I’m loving the stack of three!

The stack of three is so rich in color and sparkly and wonderful on your beautiful hand! I adore this look and it suits you perfectly! It also stands out much more than the all-platinum look :kiss2:

Not that the all platinum look is bad or unattractive in any way, but the mixed metal look is so lovely on your hand and goes so well with your complexion. I definitely prefer the YG to the platinum.

I love the mixed metals! Your wedding band is mostly diamonds and very little metal. It adds interest to me. I say go for it!

Thanks Tyty. That’s an interesting point, when it’s in a stack there are only prongs showing. Thanks for mentioning that. It looks like you have a very similar band based on your profile picture! :)

I love mixing the colors, variety!

I mix my metals all the time. A current favorite is to wear my yellow gold band with my white gold 7 stone band.
If you are concerned about the platinum band wearing away at the gold, maybe a very slim gold spacer band of either color can go in between. That way, if anything were to show wear over time, it would be the spacer, that you can replace if you want for less money and sentimental value.
I haven't bought one, but I imagine you can find one for a reasonable cost on Etsy

Thanks! I’m not too worried about that since the sides of my wedding band are smooth and the prongs are set in about a quarter of the way. In theory I think this shouldn’t cause a big issue.

It looks beautiful, but I will say I wore a 18k yellow gold spacer for about a week when my rings were loose and it seemed to increase the patina on the side that was touching my platinum ring. I know a lot of people mix metals now, but back in the day didn't we used to say this wasn't a good idea? I'd just hate you to do any damage to your gorgeous band!

I love love LOVE the mixed metals :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2: My favourite casual look is my plain rose gold wedding band with my white gold shared prong diamond eternity. And your hands are to-die-for gorgeous!

Thank you!!! I’m really leaving towards this mixed metal look now; especially with the feedback from you guys!

The mixed metals looks fab! I personally wear rose and white gold stacked together quite often, so I might be biased though ;)2

Let’s see some pictures of your stack!! :)

I LOVE this look. The way you have it stacked pulls the mixed metals together. This is mixed metals done right! Gorgeous.

Thank you! Design is my thing, so if I’m stacking it has to be cohesive! :). I appreciate the compliment!!
