Your Latest Jewelry Purchases/Things You're Considering....

@EmeraldEmpress where are you located? In the US? USPS should allow you to ship international first class with full insurance. I have done that a few times to multiple countries. It's essentially registered mail for international.

FedEx will also do it, I think. It is more expensive. They are international. You will need to go to the actual retail outlet though for both.

I just sent a stone on a return back to Canada with 2500 insurance. No problem at all with USPS.

I'm in the U.S., needing to ship to UK to return. The value exceeds what USPS will allow to the UK and FedEx won't insure precious stones.... : (

Did you look into the Global international express option? Its pricey but I remember I could insure I want to say north of $2k? but I don't know the value of your piece?... It gets there so fast, like 2-3 business days.

Dhl? No idea on pricing but that's their specialty.

I need a ring like I need another hole in my head. But alas, hole in the head it is, lol. Here is my new to me wonky diamond halo ring in platinum.

I know it's not everyone's cuppa tea, but the unusual design with 2 heart shaped diamonds in the center & the asymmetrical marquise halo just tickles my fancy:kiss2:

I hope I'll love it as much in person (fingers crossed).

I am in love....I AM IN LOVE:love::love::love: Congratulations on this unique and gorgeous piece !!!! How wonderful !!!! I have never seen anything like it.... And those hearts....oh! To die for !!!! Its 7 a.m. here and I'm having a cup of strong coffee, looking at this ring and thinking: What a great way to start the day!!!! Huge congrats again:appl:

It looks like they may do it.

The UK doesn't allow "import" of jewelry by DHL but you aren't importing. You are returning.

What is the value you need to insure?
I would go back to the post office or talk to DHL. How was it shipped to you? Can you use the same method?

And I have received a ton of jewelry with fedex. They say they don't cover it?

Why don't you ask the seller to get the shipping label and you will pay for it? They surely insured it for you when shipped. I'd explain the situation.

This is the personal line insurance from Shipsurance now: https://www.insurepost.com/

Jewelers Mutual also covers new purchases for 3 months, includin shipping returns, if you are a current customer.

The seller isn't willing to insure for me..... I supposedly asked too many questions about the piece and their return policy before purchasing, so their insurer doesn't trust me. That's essentially what I was told. Great customer service, right? So they will not help me to get it insured, I have to do it completely on my own. The piece is high-value and exceeds all the limits offered by USPS and such. FedEx fine print says they don't insure precious stones, such as diamonds..... all that to say you really seem to need separate insurance in a situation like this.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it looks like again the value is capped at much less than what the value of my piece is : (

Thank you for the suggestion! I need to research to see if they exclude jewelry/precious stones...

oh, but you said the UK doesn't allow "import" of jewelry by DHL but you aren't importing. You are returning...

but still if somehow this got rejected at Customs and sent back to me it would be a complete waste.... I'm not sure it would be worth it to risk that by using DHL....

Any chance of employing a reputable UK based appraiser to assist in the return?
You may have to pay for the appraisal, but they might assist in the shipping to the UK and then on to the seller?

@EmeraldEmpress have you tried https://www.malca-amit.com/diamonds--jewelry.html

They specialise in transporting high value goods like jewellery gems and bullion. I think a few European Pricescopers have used their services to ship their diamonds for setting in the USA. Their shipping costs usually include insurance.

Please let us know who this seller is so we know to stay away!

Latest jewelry purchase is a custom 2.9 carat Scapolite diamond halo ring (next to my diamond wedding band and engagement ring - which needs some cleaning!) :P2

Gorgeous and very unique! What a great ring to wear in the summer months! Love the colors! Congrats. Where did you get it made?

I agree with some of the other posters! This ring is so cool. I love the design. Congrats!

Thank you! I got it custom made at Greenwich St. Jewelers in downtown NYC. Their jeweler is great. Scapolite is a relatively soft stone and their jeweler got it into platinum without issue. Highly recommend them!

It has been a very disappointing experience, the seller is Elizabeth Rose Antiques, selling on Ruby Lane : (

I bought this:

https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD12116510?track=Detlink0

And I'm remaking *this* - which currently has a .64ct AVR in it - with the new 1.76ct stone. It will bump the diameter 2.25mm and make for quite an eye catching and, I hope, beautiful ring.

20190418_172356.jpg

Had to change the new stone as it's slightly too large. This is now possibly the slowest upgrade in history - or maybe it just feels like it! I've gone from 1.76 down to 1.50ct - still an E, still perfectly cut, and actually one grade up in clarity - from a VS2 to an VS1. This one fits into the style of setting I want better and the setting is so large, I honestly don't think the size difference will be noticeable. So it's all good. I think it will still take another 2 weeks to get here - sooooo slow!!

My wonky halo ring has arrived, and I'm a bit sad that it's not a keeper :-(

The ring itself is very well made and in almost pristine condition for a pre-owned piece. But the lovely details of the unusual design can't really be seen in real life from normal viewing distance. So it just looks like a non-descript pave ring.:cry2:

In an ideal world, I would love to recreate a bigger version of this ring with 2 heart shaped yellow sapphires in the center. A girl can dream....

Here is a quick picture. Then she will be on her way back to the vendor.

And here again it's the vendor picture. The lovely contrast between the warmish center stones and halo is much more subtle in real life (sigh).

I really love this bangle BIG time @EllenS1 ! Do you mind me asking where you purchased it from?
Thank you Alex I bought it in Dubai from Damas Jewellery!

Ok people I'm on the Costco train big time! I have done soo much buying and returning it's sometimes embarrassing. Here are my new diamond dangles...super sparkly and lightweight, great easy weekend earrings or during the week. They are .73tcw I vs2.20190713_190955.jpg20190713_191052.jpg
They are a lot of fun thanks for looking.
I have more to add...stay tuned.

Well! I am SO miffed! Tried to do a trade-up with BN, but the diamond I was looking at was a tad too large. So tried to swap it out for something a little smaller. Placed the order over the phone with a SA and send my CC details, but got a message (5 days later!) - stone no longer available. Found a third stone - gave them my CC details - got a message - stone no longer available. This process so far has taken 4 weeks and I am still without a diamond.

After the second stone (the first one that wasn't available), BN sent me three diamond stock numbers they suggested instead. Oh man....

Here's the diamond I was trying to buy:

Here's the stock numbers of the three they suggested.

You've gotta be kidding. Went out immediately and bought 6 opals I've been eyeing off for a bracelet I want to make; opals and old cut diamonds. Itch scratched, problem solved, end of story. Not doing the upgrade - will stay with my I SI1 1.4ct diamond which is very white, given its grade, and will probably work in the setting anyway. So there. :angryfire:

: ( this sounds like my jewelry luck lately.... sorry to hear! but the opal and old cut diamond bracelet sounds lovely!

wow! details, details! ; )
So I have been eyeing lozenges for two-three years , knowing that pfffff I will never find one that fits my requirements (antique or clean source, 2ct because 10mm long mini, low color. [i looooooove L and under , don’t ask; g and above just don’t make my heart sing], skinny more than squat, and VS1 and better ( stupid eagle eyes even) now that I am 40++), at good symmetry; no brown undertone, and as cheap as possible ===> making my quest come to a $15k budget or so if not more.:cry2::cry2::cry2:) Husband is :eek2:
Never came across the unicorn or of course, too expensive or too late.
Chatting with Erica about another piece and she says “oh , wait I have a shipment coming you are going to die”. And of course I have absolutely zero money in the bank for fluffy expenses (because I just incured stupid medical bills due to a fall).
And off she pops this little guy.
The only not on my list : it is not skinny. And it is wayyyy under the budget I was looking at.
So
2.23ct
11.41 x 9.57 mm
K VS1 (with a ever so lightly pinkish hue) type IIa
Man Made by Diamond Foundry.
I have looked at MMD for a long while and now they are much better.
So off I went to see it in person and bam!
I don’t care what people say about MMD , they have the same visual properties and durability etc. I always keep all my pieces so I could care less about resale value.
It is absolutely gorgeous and pics do not do it justice (the step cut facets always look off symmetry wise because the facets light up in turn on pics but IRL it is amazing!)

I ask husband if we can , and idk how but he gives me the green light ( we basically exchanges le three texts!)

Now onto designing a ring.
