Show me your Pearls!

Correct thread! Here it is as worn by Lil Sis.

It’s a golden south sea in an 18 carat gold and platinum setting

I soooooo wanted it but she’s wanted a pearl ring her entire life. Plus my husband and son both lectured me on the importance of sharing with one’s favourite sibling (ironically both are only children!!!)

Woah that’s so gorgeous!!!!

For a long time I didn‘t really care for pearls. I liked them on others but felt they are not for me… well, that changed. I bought a pair of rather cheap ones and wore them a lot. I came to love pearls! I had a rough last year and got up again. And what to do for a reward… well, I needn’t tell you. Go into a shop (I‘ve admired from the outside for years) and buy a wonderful pair of pearls - I just founded my own company and don‘t have a lot to spend… but I did anyways. Here they are: South Sea 13.5mm AAA. IMG_8933.jpeg

today, finally taking mum's pearls in to be restrung and have an eaiser clasp attached to reduce the amount of blasphemy involved in putting them on

Pics please when you’re done Daisy!

i will
i do feel really good about taking them in=)2

its been too long (the strand had needed restringing ever since i inherited them but i had been wearing them around the house until they finally broke the week The Queen died

they were always a bit too tight for comfort for my fat neck
i am having them extended by some lovely pearls i was gifted from here on PS
they are a bit too white but they are a perfect size and lovely luster and their project never kind of happened so i thought why not ? mum deserves it :kiss2:
i am sure the gifter wont mind :saint: better to use them and love them than have them sit in a drawer, rather they do an important little job for me now
They will go at the ends by the new clasp and most of the time will be under my hair although i do often wear pearls with my hair tucked up in my daisy baseball cap at work

the new clasp in very um utilitarian:lol-2: but not ugly ;)2

i am never going to be clever enough to get matching pearls and in another 40 years they might be the same colour :lol-2:

I've been looking for a nice strand of South Sea white pearls and ended up with these. I named her Wilma, as you can imagine. They are so heavy and the diamond clasp is very easy to use. It's my new favorite jewelry!

I havent heard much talk about Tasaki. These are secondhand Tasaki rice pearls. I like the unusual shape.20240510_080745.jpg20240510_144621.jpg.

This is a mix of two freshwater pearl necklaces I found on Ebay. I am so particular about clasps I had to hunt around to find this one and I learned how to string and knot on this strand.

Yeah I have the pearl bug. It's not super comfy to wear but I love the randomness of this one. Not sure if this is keshi or not. Maybe someone can help id it. But there are flashes of pink and blue and its so unusual. The 2 tone 14k toggle clasp is super easy for me to maneuver too. 20240510_143543.jpg20240510_144427.jpg20240510_080827.jpg

This last one is my Tahitian strand 10 to 12mm gem grade, from POJ. Of course I wrecked the awful clasp that came with it and found a suitable bling as a replacement. I call this one Betty. Its amazing how different it looks under different lighting.20240510_144652.jpg20240510_143504.jpg

I'm not big on pearl bracelets because I am afraid I could damage them. But I picked up this 7mm akoya one for special events. So far I have worn it to a best friends funeral. It's not too hard to clasp, thankfully. And the diamonds add a little bling. 20240510_144514.jpg20240510_081007.jpg20240510_143435.jpg

Ohhh so pretty. Love your clasps!

TY, Ann. I bought a strand on Ebay from Argentina just for this clasp on the Tahitians. It was 450 so I could not argue. I am as obsessed with clasps as I am with pearls but there is not a huge variety of clasps available, as there is with pearls. I am always searching.

Last year Takahashi showed me a pair of “super blue” large (11.5mm) baroque akoya pearls that I bought and made into earrings. I’ve been in love with natural colored baroque akoyas since and wanted to get a strand with large baroques with natural color and nice luster. Takahashi finally had one in stock that they thought fit the bill and I just received it a couple of days ago! Let me tell ya, these pearls are enormous! Takahashi had listed them as 10.5mm+ and by my calipers they are mostly 11mm going up to 12mm! My earrings are actually now kind of small in comparison (just need to get bigger earrings now, right?). I love these and can get a lot of wear from them. Love that they can be easily dressed up or down! I’ve attached some photos including a few from Takahashi that compares them to a smaller baroque strand and 7-7.5mm gem strands! D6C9AF2F-4681-4BAA-99B7-DF2E1B99C228.jpeg

Your semi baroque Akoya’s are stunning, absolutely love their colour overtones, lustre and size!
I haven’t been bitten by the round Akoya bug yet but yours are gorgeous.

just stunning that necklace
but oh my i love those earrings

My latest strand: baroque south seas 9.0-10.5mm.

I was looking for an alternative to white pearls and immediately liked these south seas with white, cream, champagne, and silver/blue, with one golden nugget thrown in for good measure ;)2

The seller has strung these using beading wire without any silicone spacers in between - I’d like to ask if anyone has had any issues of nacre-on-nacre damage?

I’ll be removing the central two pearl as they’re more squat in shape than the rest of the strand, which works because I prefer shorter (16inch) strands anyway, and will also be getting an extendable clasp.
