Antique ladies platinum diamond ring. trillion center stone. 30 antique square cut step diamond. Was given to my grandmother upon the birth of her son in 1927. The appraiser gave the age of the stones as 100.

My mother recently gave this ring to me and I promptly got an appraisal and of course a cleaning. The center stone has chips on all sides (which I can't see) and one of the square cut diamonds (the smallest) is broken ( which I also can't see).

The ring will get passed down in many years to my 10 month old granddaughter.

I am in love with it and wish I knew more of its history.

Grades are side diamonds - SI 11 color G-H center - SI12 - color JK

Sides equal approx 1.2 carets
Center 2.4
Total weight is approx 11.9 grams

My new ca. 1930 sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring. I'm loving seeing all the jewellery on this forum, antique or otherwise!

Tinika, looks like a marquise cut? I love fancy cuts on old stones! Beautiful!

My new Edwardian ring I purchased from Jbeg. I only got the setting as I didn't really love the OEC it was set with. I will either put a sapphire in there or another OEC. SMTB thread will be later this summer once I decide, set and rehab it a little.

I adore this setting! I can't wait to see the finished product!!! :appl:

I've never seen that cut before - what a beauty. Thanks for posting.

Deleted for double-posting, sorry!

It is a marquis cut on the center diamond! :-)

Horrible Horrible HORRIBLE photo but I thought it might help a few people compare color and size.

From Left to Right on Finger size 6:
5.06ct N/O VS1 (I think) Antique cushion 13mm + with halo in PLAT ring
2.08ct EGL OEC O/P 8.11 x 7.74 x 5.21mm I1 in a 3 stone in unplated WG (the lower color of the diamonds plus the unplated WG just all mold together. Not for everyone but I love the subtleness.)
1.18ct OEC/ Tranny Approx K VVS 6.62 x 6.6mm in 14k YG setting with WG head (being reset into Edwardian ring)

A few things to note- the 3 stone sits very low and comfortable on my finger, where as the solitare is set extremely high. It definitely shows how that can affect how you view the size proportions. Also I think the K color really draws the eye away from the EGL O/P (I would say this is actually a QR to my eye. It is definitely a light yellow not ivory at all). Anyhow I think it is funny that when at least I look at the photo I can't tell much of a size difference between the 2ct and 1ct.

Thanks Junebug....unfortunately the jeweler did a really botched job so while it is still pretty it is nothing like the perfection that it was. I'll post a picture when I get it on Monday to show the before/after.

I can't imagine the JBEG girls massacring a setting, what happened, a resizing disaster or a prong rehab that went wrong?

it wasn't the Jbeg girls. I decided to go through someone else I have used before and is highly respected on PS. He added a bezel (WTF?! :?  ) to my beautiful ring without telling me!!! He did end up fixing it which is why I'm not publicly shaming him, but I had to pay him to add the bezel (that i never wanted nor asked for) and then take it off....still scratching my head over that. Here is a current photo with my actual diamond 1.18c J VVS OEC/ Tranny. I will send back to Jbeg to see if they can fix it and put it back to where it was. The top down view is what kills me. The diamond is set extremely low and when he removed the bezel he left "lips" to brace the diamond and built them up. To me they just look awkard and ruin the overall look of the ring. Grace has been fantastic through all of this and really helped me keep my head with the other vendor. blah.

Gosh SB I really hate it when jewellers do that, they think they have a better way to make a setting or ring work and then ad lib and do it the way they think will look better rather than asking the owners opinion first (I had that happen with a band a while ago). It really sucks. I hope the JBEG girls can fix it for you they have a really good bench so fingers crossed!!!!

Oh gosh SB that's crazy! I can't believe that they would 1) add the bezel without asking and 2) charge you for adding and taking it off! Hopefully it gets fixed soon in the capable hands of JbEG. Otherwise, it's gorgeous! Love the engraving on the shank and the touch of sapphires.

Rika, I LOVE YOUR RING!

I'm so happy I got my new antique sapphire and diamond ring this week as an early Christmas gift to myself. I purchased from Gold Adore on Etsy. It is a 2.5 carat lavender/violet sapphire with a halo of cognac colored diamonds that are mine cut. The ring is 15k gold (which I had never heard of before) and there is also platinum over the halo part, so that shows up white (the band is yellow gold). The ring dates to the late 1800's.

I just love the step style of this ring :) It's platinum with about 0.56 total carat weight, with one 0.4 ish OMC in the center and 8 small diamonds around the sides. It's my RHR and I've never had it appraised but it is in good condition (although due for a cleaning!)

This is not a very expensive ring, but I found it in a pawn shop and was charmed at it's old style/unique design. The bezel is framed in two tone gold (pink and yellow) but the ruby it's self is what I love. It is a cultured ruby that flashes so pretty. 10k.
